I appreciate a host that is well-researched and curious when interviewing a guest. You asked great questions and Caroline was eager and excited to talk about all her work processes, feelings, passion, and creative vision. A top-notch interview and a pleasure to watch! Thank you!
And this is why I've been watching more interviews with artists I like, getting to know the process and how artists think about their own craft is so nice to hear. Thank you for this in-depth interview omg
i don't know why but i'm crying. I think it's because I feel that music for her is everything, she pours all her soul & heart into it and it shows. She is just so moving, she is rare.
love this, especially the third interpretation of the album title. i could listen to caroline talk about her music all day long, except i have no time because i’m listening to her music all day long.
I just discovered this artist. I know and yes I do live under a rock. That and I am a 53 year old musician who is very jaded in regard to modern popular music. It all sounds the same to me. Then a day ago I heard Ms. Polchek . And thought huh, that is legitimately interesting, I wonder if the rest of her discography is as fresh. Rabbit hole begins. And what a performer! I then showed my wife who feels the same. I get many Kate Bush and Talking Heads vibes from her and I hope she has no intention of stopping. I’m glad I found her.
This was such a good interview, It was fascinating to hear about her creative process and the inspiration behind her artwork. Her passion for her craft really shines through and it's clear that she puts a lot of thought and intention into each piece she creates. She truly is a talented and otherworldly artist.
I don't think I've seen an interview with Caroline but omg this was great. I love the way she talks about music, it just sounds so clear and intelligent. It's exactly what I want to hear in interviews with artists
The album artwork being in a subway is so perfect to me. I remember when billions first came out I’d go see my bf and have to go through the underground. Id always play billions because it fit the vibe but now I have a whole album to
also the album has strong themes of love and socialization and navigating social spaces. I really like the image of her trying to crawl her way through a crowded subway, like all of us, making our ways through love and life. And like any subway or long train trip, it can either be really awesome or absolutely awful, as a result of the people on the train.
I appreciate her music SO much. I get told a lot that the music I make is too weird. Of course, I don't sing nearly as beautifully as she does but it is very inspiring that she is out there making unique music and absolutely killing it. I've been a fan since Chairlift. Her solo work is absolutely amazing!
For starters, this is a GREAT interview. The questions were catalysts for both thoughtful and thought-provoking responses from Caroline. Kudos to the interviewer for doing her research. It is a privilege to have interview access to talented musicians such as Caroline Polachek - and it always frustrates us when we see interviewers with this privilege and platform waste both on frivolous banter. This was a DIFFERENT interview from the norm and a better one because of that. We don’t think Caroline gives herself enough credit for “Billions”. Yes, the song is structurally unconventional - but we have to push back on this idea that it is NOT radio-friendly. When it first released, we played it on high-rotation on our global online radio broadcast (google “radio crème brulee”) and it resonated with listeners and became our track of the month in Feb 2022. I think it is an artistic feat to make something radio-friendly while deviating from the standard pop song template that most radio fodder consists of. Last, but not least, in an industry with unfortunate incentives, plummeting monetization potential, and that is becoming a showcase for a lot of mediocrity, it is so refreshing to see someone like Caroline Polacheck become this beacon of optimism for the future of the music industry and the creative spirit that propels it. We were casual fans that latched on to her ever since she was the vocalist of Chairlift - but to say that she has made a quantum leap in in artistry from her first album to her second one would be quite the understatement. We are incredibly curious as to where her creative journey takes her next. Once again, fantastic interview. We hope to see more like this one.
Loved the interview! The questions were thought provoking and insightful. Caroline is an absolute goddess inside and out, but maybe next time give the guests a mic so that they don't have to lean in so much.
i love what she's saying about having profound listening experiences on the subway. i definitely had one of those with "Last Days: Non Voglio Mai Vedere Il Sole Tramontare" riding the subway across the Han river in Seoul, it was absolutely surreal in the most wonderful sense
What I love about this album is that she reuses her own melodies like leitmotifs. The verse in "crude drawing of an angel" sounds like the verse in "butterfly net". It truly is like every song is a puzzle piece of a whole album. The best album of 2023
this interview is amazing and insightful..she doesnt have a lot of interviews and these questions were great..i feel like i got a peek into her genius mind❤
Great interview !! THANKS !!! Her album is truely a MASTERPIECE !!!!!!!!! Sooooo Creative !!!!!!! So much work on it !!!! Congrats to her !!!!!!!!!!! 💕💕💕💕💕✨🙏✨💕💕
Ty for this interview and sharing your thoughts here C. Yes I do really like your embracing midtones it's such a subtle "rebellion" or whatever, maybe not rebellion but an interesting course that's really engaging. I'm happy to be on your island. 🤞Hope I will catch you live soon. If not just gonna chill with your voice and of course c's
I'm so so happy to see women in their 30's slaying it !!!! I'm a female artist myself and there is so much stigma around age for women in the industry it's so wild. It's so fucking nice to see people like Caroline shifting the paradigm
the thing about the phrase "desire i want to turn into you" meaning you want to turn into the object of your desire is explored in the title of the book/movie "call me by your name" too. i dont think its psychotic to want to become one with the object of your affection, it has multiple meanings one being to have sex with them, and two being as caroline said to have a child with them, and in that way it makes sense the humans would be biologically programmed to want to "fuse" with one another like that and that we would have such a poetic way to express that desire.
this interview feels more down to earth and genuine than the other ones i've heard of her, much better, probably in part due to better questions and atmosphere. come to think of it, that might actually be intentional on her part, as she seems pretty inspired by bjork and stuff, who took a similar approach to interviews in the past. interesting
I relate so much to the very visceral adhd thought processes that Caroline talks about in this interview. I haven't related to someone like this in a while.
06:35 she wants a Suzanne Vega moment 😊 Funnily enough, she really reminds me of a few singer songwriters from that era. All the best Caroline. Amazing talent!
it has been 7 months and still this is the best interview she has ever done since the new album. the interviewers questions are amazing.
Thank you so much! (Also: slay queen.)
Caroline is the definition of a true artist, where the lines are blurred between art and spirituality. So greatful for her art.
Lol what spirituality you’d need a soul for that
^^anoxia, i hope you know all your comments on this vid have been incredibly obnoxious :)
Same thing
she is so well spoken and smart !!
Demure, insightful, interesting, intelligent, articulate.
Thank you SO much for this interview! You really researched before creating the questions and nowadays that’s rare. Loved it!
Thank you! I really appreciate your kind words :)
That's Our Vera!! 😊🥰👏🙌🙏💪💖 She always prepares to a T and I would have been very surprised if She would have floundered with one of her Big Idols!! 😅
alright the sound design in this interview is incredible. To have the tracks instrumentals playing in the background on seamless loops is so good
it is not sound design but ok lol
@@sovka8394 ?
@@sovka8394its not that serious but ok

Listening to musician interviews is my favourite thing to do. I would say even more so than the music itself
If you like that, I recommend the Tape Notes podcast...
agreed! such a treat to hear about the process and inception of a creation and fun side stories. It paints a picture of who they are.
she's so eloquent, and they way her thoughts work, the way she turns them into words is intriguing and beautiful, she's so special. love ya caroline
Been a fan since Chairlift. This album sounds like heaven. I love that I discover a random sound in each of the songs every listen.
i don't know why but i'm crying. I think it's because I feel that music for her is everything, she pours all her soul & heart into it and it shows. She is just so moving, she is rare.
Gay
I’m so so glad to know about her, she’s inspiring beyond words
With this album Caroline is giving OPULENCE
We. Get. EVERYTHING

Excellent interview. Caroline’s words are very insightful
Wow. Such a great interview. Thank you for including samples of the songs that were currently being discussed. Thank you! Very comfortable dynamic
Thank you!! ❤
The album artwork being in a subway is so perfect to me. I remember when billions first came out I’d go see my bf and have to go through the underground. Id always play billions because it fit the vibe but now I have a whole album to
Also when the album releases I had to get the tube to see her london show. While listening to the album.

I was there on valentines day and it was a religious experience. A spiritual, ritualistic type of gig. The vocals and music were so perfect live.
her concert in Amsterdam was amazing
LoOoOove her so much!
thank you so much for this amazing interview!!😭💖 someone is finally doing caroline some interesting questions about her work
