I enjoyed your remark about “la marketa.” I had a Puerto Rican buddy in the Army. He lived his entire life in PR before he joined the Army. He told me about the Nuyorican practice of inventing words. He said the Nuyoricans simply put el or la before and English word and o or an after. His examples were la marketa and el spoono.
Enjoyed your video Beatrix (sp?). In terms of whether the US should be considered part of Latin America, maybe when we reach the 50% Spanish speaking threshold we can consider that. We like all our immigrants whether they speak a romance language or an anglo one or african one.

But if you think that's impressive, consider that the number of English speakers in India is 125 million although English does have more of a designated official status there than say Spanish in the US. Probably the best example of such a phenomena though.
Very interesting topic. My parents are Puerto Rico but I was born and raised in NYC. I consider myself to be of Puerto Rican descent. I do speak Spanish but I cannot write or barely read it. Shameful, I can in Italian. Although most people think that I am white, I always reiterate that I am Puerto Rican. Like all cultures, Spanish culture is beautiful in every variety from music, food, and family values. I recently learned that I am 65% European of which 33% is Spain, and 13% Portugal now my interest and pride have reached another level since the USA’s schools teach little to no history of contribution made by other ethnicities due to racism. The United States federal and state governments must allow the usage of Spanish in official and unofficial government correspondences so that both public and private primary and secondary schools will be compelled to integrate Spanish as one of the mediums of instruction alongside English. Los gobiernos federal y estatal de los Estados Unidos deben permitir el uso del español en la correspondencia gubernamental oficial y no oficial para que las escuelas primarias y secundarias, tanto públicas como privadas, se vean obligadas a integrar el español como uno de los medios de instrucción junto con el inglés.

I kinda think that there is and will be some overlap and mixing between different varieties of Spanish due to inter-community interaction and mixed families. Even though we cannot say that there's a "US Spanish" per se as its own Spanish dialect for now, it has a potential to be one.

Given the fact that as far as I know the only country where the Latin language is at least cooficial is the Vatican state, and that the tern Latin America-Amérique Latine was coined in 1861 by the Historian-cartographer Michel Chevalier to justify the French invasion of Mexico by Napoleon III , whereas the failed constitution of Cadiz of 1812 called Spanish citizens the inhabitants of both hemispheres, and now the Spanish state offers dual nationality agreements to several of the Hispanic countries of the American continent, the term Hispanic America would be more appropriate-suitable

I wish I had learned Spanish in school but no one ever emphasized the importance. Now that I live in a Spanish-speaking country, it's mandatory!!!
