Well you answered every question I had about solar panels and the battery life. I am building one today but I am going to use outdoor surface mount speakers. Might make it easier to still use the cooler as a cooler. Thanks for the video and information.
@TuningSanAndreas I hooked it up to a normal 12volt automatic car charger set on 2amps on AGM mode. I still use it that way half the time especially if there are alot of people on the boat it takes up less room without the panel on top. Also I took apart an old 12v spot light and use the cigerette lighter from it to charge when i'm on the boat.
when it's not in the sun I use a 12volt batter tender for cars. It's a small charger that is the perfect output and they are readily available to charge 12 volt batteries.
haha, If they existed when I built this I probably wouldn't have done it. They make cool bluetooth and even waterproof ipod stereos now but there were none available at the time. Chick deflector, love that.
Hiii, just saying, you could put some tin foil on the inside of the lid so the light gets reflected away and it wouldn't heat up much? It would probably stop your iPhone over heating :)
It's a 2 Watt, I got at Lowes for $20. Since then they are MUCH cheaper on the internet. I just picked up a 10 watt monocystaline for $30 off ebay. These black anamorphous and harbor freight ones are junk. Don't waste your money. Since then I've rebuilt this better.

@JerryBeatFreak You mean where the ipod goes? Did you see when I snap on the cover?
@SimonKentSmith Not in this case since the solar panel is so small it's not capable of over charging it.
lets se the new video with the rebuilt one, and how much did it cost?
