Nothing wrong with that meal at all. Love a good corned beef and potato. Hell, there's been a lonely Christmas morning once where it was a can of spam and a shot of Jäger before.
I'd recommend every household to cook from "rations" with camping or other auxiliary equipment at least yearly, simply to keep on top of the process. The world is an uncertain place, but knowing you can do it rain or shine helps keep a clear head. Greets from Finland!
i still cook corned beef this way. something my late grandmother used to make.. because it can be quite salty, i eat it with rice. i also add in onions and spice it up with some dried chili.
Perfect meal in combat when you are not getting artillery. Dirt on your corned beef and potatoes would really suck. I still cook this with first cooking with chopped garlic and onions first in with fat from the can, then the diced potatoes until kind of brown, then add the corned or bully beef, add water from your canteen and simmer till the potatoes tender. Thank God I didn't experience this as my great grandfather did in France in 1917. Today I wonder why canned corned beef became so expensive when back then it was considered a poor mans food or a combat ration? I don't think even poor people of today would even consider eating this??? For me I love it!!!
Yes, sad fact that it's so expensive now. Could get it early pandemic days, but now it's out of reach. Almost all beef is, unless you can find a sale. Even beans are hard on the wallet now. My grandfather wouldn't eat beans after the Second, said he'd had enough beans for a lifetime.
I’m high as I watch this and I am laughing out loud. Every time you drop something off your spoon it shows me that you are human and not one of these polished UA-cam chefs. Thanks for the giggle.
Ty for this video. I made this the other night but modernized it a bit to get a sense of what they would of ate in the trenches as I am filming a period piece movie as the writer and director that takes place in the 1900s-late 1920s. It turned out good but I used beef stock in mine and Instead of HP sauce I used the American equivalent Worchester. It was delish but I cant see myself eating this all the time. in my Recipe, I used 3 potatoes, 1 onion, a small bag of Carrots, Beef stock, salt, pepper, Libbys canned corned beef, beef stock and Worchester Sauce. It was very delish and had an interesting variation of flavors
spoiled kids from the west that complains about the little things with the service at these restaurants should watch and learn how our veterans ate during the war. It will teach them to be grateful.
I've been trying to track down a recipe from this period for field bread which is baked in the US GI meat can, snapped tight and buried in the coals for maybe an hour. Yeilds about 1 Lb. Semper Fi, Devildog.
W S McIlhenny was a Marine Brig. General. As a 1Lt with 1/5 Marines he was awarded the Navy Cross for his action on Guadalcanal in 1942. He managed the Tobasco Company from 1949 to 1985, He stayed in the Marine Reserve. He provided small 2 oz bottles of Tabasco sauce and a Charlie Ration Cookbook to troops in Viet Nam.
Yes, must have *liquid fire* in such circumstances. I made certain to bring a small bottle when I last traveled, and will do so later this year when I next do so.
I'm not trying to be that guy. But the soldiers well the British anyway would have cut up the meat and potatoe even smaller so it would cook faster and over cooking the corned beef would make you sick.
Just a dreamer wannabee. No idea but, he can soon be a hero as few of us who knew the real people will be gone soon too.. My war was tough enough, never had the trenches they had to put up with.
You are irrationally angry about someone just enjoying a hobby and sharing it with others. It’s not a child’s costume you have no clue what you’re talking about. If that’s you in the videos on your channel then it’s truly sad you’re this old and choose to spend your time being so critical of younger people who enjoy a hobby like this.
and a bottle of HP sauce, just to pep it up a bit, all the lads do it
he and his mate brought it.
@@helmetguyADSEAits not an army ration
Just to improve it
I understood that reference.

I do something similar, except I add chopped pickles instead of chili. One of those delicious, easy meals you can do without any fresh components.
Finally, a video without distracting music in the background. Thank you !
Dude forgot to do his weekly shopping now he's travelling back in time
Stchew a corn beef stchew?
He will share this with his mate

we kinda call that corned beef hash (with the potatoes). though we cut the potatoes in mini cube style.
i kinda love corned beef

I made this in my WW1 1918 US Meat Tin and it was delicious especially with Duck Fat Oil

It's just corned beef hash.
Making a version with onion, potatoes, carrots and garlic.
You should find someone to hold the camera for you bub
Need some HB sauce, pep it up a bit, improve things
*HP sauce- House of Parliament sauce.
I remember a Bill Mauldin cartoon of a soldier griping that he'd been to another unit's mess hall, and they were serving beef willie *too*!
Some hot sauce would go nice with that.
It sure would!
Or some HP sauce thankfully our store has an international section that carries it. Way better than A1 steak sauce.

I have been making this for years. My wife thinks I'm crazy
I wonder how many WW1 soldiers used moms kitchen to eat after getting potatoes
Its my old apartment not my parents house
Corn beef hash
The british army still used it nearly 100 years later
Isnt this basically corned beef hash?
Where did they carry corn beef ? Did they pack it in m1910 haversack ?
Yes and was meant to be shared between two people.
It's basically corned beef hash?
Yep, with added willy.

I think French cheese was also included in WW1 or maybe WW2 idk
There was many variations of this recipe and what the individual had on hand
Smaller dice on the potatoes and cooking with the cover off will yield a better dish. Need some Maillard reaction on that beef.
Re-enactment?
Put in an onion too.
👍😊
Bacon grease.tasty
You forgot to crumble and add the biscuits. Pretty poor job.
Prob keep ya alive but that shit looks like dog food
Cool
Bully Beef!!!
That's two mens rations
This is like watching monkey football. Camera is all over the place and I was getting motion sickness sitting down.
Tanpa garam apa enak
Corn beef itu sendiri memang sudah ada garam di dalamnya
beef in front? lol.
Not even worth the effort to make a video. It’s a boiled potato mixed with corned beef hash. Done. And no need for a child’s costume.
