      Well my SON has a Total ORIGINAL 1987 Holden VL Model Police CAR still with the Factory options and paperwork and books, which is a V8 as well, which in australia is very rare to find everyone wants the turbo six's that they brought out and they were coded by holden as BT1 packs which is the holden code for police car and also it's a pursuit police pack not an undercover car but a HWY patrol car.

    2013 Holden Commodore rebadged as a Chevy Caprice, they are also used as Police vehicles in Australia, if you get the chance have a look at pictures of Commodore Highway Patrol cars from Australia the latest ones down here are very cool.

    My family has the Holden version of this car. Ex-hire car used for weddings and such. Black 6 Litre with 22' rims. In Australia the highway patrol Holdens still run the factory Alloy wheels, not steel rims like this car.

    It's fun, in an odd way, to see the varying degree of care taken in this video. At first, an extension cord is laid over the bonnet of the car, taillights are put glass down when drilling into them (vacuum wont really do much btw), and so on. Also, drilling through metal at full speed and without any lubricant is a bit odd. Then later in the video, towels are everywhere and it looks as though greater care is taken.
    It's an interesting video to watch. I'm a bit of a nerd in terms of modifications, and I actually found myself noting - as the video was playing - that the front headlight strobes ("hideaways"?) would be invisible in daylight due to their position on the top of the headlight behind the dispersing lense, that the radio console looked as if it would not be possible to operate it "normally" whilst seated in the car, and that I could not for the life of me imagine how the grommet from the light bar would ever be able to be water tight. Dunno about the last one, but I'd say I called the two first ones.
    It's also interesting in the sense, that it's almost stupifying to see the amount of changes done. Where I live, the Police take vehicles from factory, install emergency lights (fewer!!), and put in a radio and a siren/light controller. There are no partitions between front and rear, if people can't behave, they get to ride in the back of a prison van instead. No gun racks, police carry side arms, and have vests in the trunk. Only in case of an escalated alert will they deploy with MP5s and in those cases, the guns are kept in the vehicle trunk. Shotguns are never used here. All this also means, that access to the climate controls, radio and other controls are unhindered, which is obviously a concern with the amount of equipment in the car built in the video.
    What would be awesome, in my opinion, was if manufactors would actually provide an integrated solution for the equipment. For instance, VW have a control unit for most of their cars labelled "Special Use Vehicle" meant for taxis or driving schools. It would make sense, in my opinion, if cars made for Police use actually came with f.ex. a dash panel insert that could contain the nessacary switches, nicely background illuminated, and so on. It would bring a much better function to the officer and others, for instance by turning of sirens and alternating highbeams after 30 seconds of stationary vehicle, and by providing tonnes more room inside the car and less obstructions for the officer. Same with the touch screen in most new cars - give it an interface, so that the police computer functions can be connected to it in a simple way - i.e. video in + USB out (touch input).
    Thanks for sharing the video though, it's an interesting insight. Did you ever consider using CANbus- (or other bus-) based components to cut down on the fairly substancial amount of wiring? It would make it drastically easier to fit the wiring in the car - the amount of cables in the front-to-rear-door-sills would simply not be possible on most European cars. And by a similar token, do you actually project the wiring size (AWG) to match the use and load? It seems very drastic. :)

    Hello Sirennet - long time video watcher. Question for you, are you allowed to test these on the road with the lights going? Do you have a special "license" or permission to do this since you are a install company or do you just test on private roads?

    • @SIRENNET
      @SIRENNET  10 років тому +1

      We do not test equipment on open roadways. The Open road testing we conduct is for fine tuning rattles and squeaks' if they exist.
      We do have a permissioned closed private area in which light and siren testing can be/is done.

    No one seems to read the cars background any more it is a car made in Australia it is the luxury model for the holden commodore also made In Australia and known in other countries as a Pontiac gto in Australia the Chevy caprice is sold as a holden caprice which is the luxury and high performance model and also sold a a statesmen and people in other countries buy it thinking it's an American news flash it not it AUSTRALIAN :-)

    • @MYTOYMAKERZ
      @MYTOYMAKERZ 10 років тому +2

      Your statement in regards to all Americans believe there made in our country just is not true at least the majority know. GM dealerships are required to tell its customers where they are made. Plus it states it on the drivers door information sticker. Cars made in Canada and sold in the U.S. also have the same sticker on the drivers door. The cars made in Australia are of good quality and it did not matter to me at all that my GTO was made in one of our Allied Countries. I am very sorry to hear General Motors - at least the last I knew - were going to quit making most GM cars in Australia. Please correct me if I am wrong. Cheers to our good friends down under.

    Not bad. All though there are some things I would have done differently like the side lighting in the finder and intersectors, there a little over board for a marked car with a light bar on top, I would have had the setup a lightbar on top with the strobes in the blinkers and the head/tail light flashers, and the radio console I would have put the siren controller on top and the radios on the bottom just cause it would be harder to see which bitten is which. But other then that everything is good.

    • @brandonh5201
      @brandonh5201 8 років тому

      Oh and in my state (Illinois) patrol cars with a lightbar on top are not allowed to have lights on the dash and grill you can only have them in the blinkers and back windows, the Illinois state police usually have head/tail light flashers and some have strobes in the blinkers and tail lights. Then we have slick tops with the lightbars on the inside and head/tail light flashers.

      Robert Gift Depending of the exact Driver and the Ohm's it produces, there can be a bit of an output difference between different Speakers. Also the front cone/scoop, based on its design, can effect the sound and how it is projected.

      i think you mean watched let alone filmed. You had it the wrong way. It's always the least surprising item first then the more surprising one last. Being watched would seem to be expected since supervisors, customers, etc would be expected to come in and see what is being done. Being filmed however would not normally be expected much less put on You tube for the world to see.

    • @davidhickey8235
      @davidhickey8235 8 років тому

      +Sam Troy You have a couple of options. One would be the same way they did it in the video with a quick disconnect under the light bar on the outside. Or you'd have to run the wires in the door jam or in a cracked window. The most proper way to do it would be with a quick disconnect because of the winter conditions you do not want any water leaking into the vehicle.

      The Whelen Gamma2 does not have an internal speaker. You could use a smaller wattage stand-alone speaker for a quieter output if desired.

    Why isn't there protection for the back window? Isn't it needed?

    • @SIRENNET
      @SIRENNET  8 років тому +1

      +Rocky Esperon Rear Window Barriers really aren't common. If the transport area has an occupant and there seated properly with a transport seat, the rear window should be out of range. The Barrier could also cause some obstruction for the Driver. Some SUV's do get rear window and rear side window barriers added to them. In those cases, its more to protect the Equipment inside from outside sources as this area wouldn't be used for transporting people.

      Holden never stopped making the caprice until they stopped making cars in Australia. First model in 1990 last in 2017. I believe there were 6 or 7 different models between that time

      +mumtaz begum Sometimes when you're transporting a drunk/high or even just an ornery "passenger" they puke/pee/defecate/bleed and plastic is easier to clean than upholstery, and more sanitary once cleaned.

    • @Natedogg8922
      @Natedogg8922 10 років тому

      Very true, they are already popping up here and there. Saw a '13 Taurus PI sitting at the ford dealer the other day for sale. Look at it this way though, back then all departments had to choose from was pretty much the Impala/Caprice alone. Now days so many others have jumped in the game, Ford with the Taurus/Explorer, Chevy with the CVPI, Caprice and Tahoe, Dodge with the Charger and Durango so I don't think you'll see as many civilians driving them as in the past.
