They do that so the edge of the wood is harder to chip. If it’s left sharp then the post can be chipped and that chip will follow the grain up the post. Potentially causing issues later. That being said, it’s a very minor step and doing it at all definitely shows his care
Dear mister Shoyan, I am absolutely in love with your craftsmanship and knowledge of building with wood. If I find a pot of gold I will invite you to build a house for me 💮
Man I love your videos! Thanks for explaining why you do things the way you do as well it's always so nice know why things are done the way they are!!! Keep up the awesome videos!
I'd love to see a "How To" video explaining how to say up and use the hand planes you use I've also recently seen that there are actual competitions about hand planning, to get the thinnest shaving of wood possible, looks remarkable
There are a lot of those videos on here. I watched one where the winner achieved a shaving of 6 microns! Put into perspective a human hair is between 60 and 70 microns!!!
An amount of strength and control is necessary to do the work you do which requires such meticulous precision thank you for sharing your craftsmanship with us
Fascinating work, it seems like a different world to me…in the UK we don’t have many tools you do, I had never heard of a super surfacer or a groove cutter, we don’t even have electric planes like yours, in my 20 years as a carpenter it’s still great to learn new things! Thank you.
To fix your sharpening issue. This is coming from a Marine Engineer. After you get done sharpening, take a piece of wax paper with some mineral oil and stick it to the blade. The oil will create a barrier that prevents corrosion and dulling of the blade while not being used. Sharpening with mineral oil and applying the wax paper after is also a good technique. Machine tool and percision tool surfaces are extremely susceptible to damage and corrosion if left exposed.
Always enjoy your beautiful craftsmanship. Thank you for sharing. Any chance that you could tell us more about those double knee pants? I’d love to have some. I destroy all of my jeans in the knees in that exact area.
You keep claiming to be a carpenter, which is technically correct, but I believe it would be more accurate to describe yourself as an artist. Thank you for sharing these videos.
Sometime would you be able to do a more in depth video on your chisel and plane sharpening process. Im buying the kingstone 1200 and the 6000 i believe thats what you have here. At this time im using diamond stones but only up to 3000
If you don't mind me asking, what is the large set square called that you use to get a straight line while using the circular saw? Do you have a link to the brand/supplier as I'd really like to get one but my searches are not returning anything close to what I see you using (so it may be that it has a specific name/brand). Thanks in advance.
The accuracy and attention to detail are astounding!
I can truly say I would wholly enjoy a home made by you Shoyan.
Look at those ribbons! You should enter one of those planing competitions
love it @ the 6:00 mark, sanding a bevel into the u/s of a post no one will ever see after it's built :)
It jumped out at me too.

Great work as always.
Thank you, Shoyan. 👍👍
Let the fun begin.
Very easy to realize that most people commenting have little to no carpentry or construction experience.
Always enjoy your beautiful craftsmanship. Thank you for sharing. Any chance that you could tell us more about those double knee pants? I’d love to have some. I destroy all of my jeans in the knees in that exact area.
Such beautiful work. How thick are the 300mm beams? ありがとう

I agree.
Сейчас много разнообразных электро инструментов, рубанков, фуганков, пил, фрезеров. Но ручной инструмент все равно часто используется. Удивительно!
