Final Fantasy Tactics is a beloved entry into the franchise, but although it has had numerous spin-off successors, there has never been a direct follow-up released. But at one point in time, Final Fantasy Tactics 2 was in the works and throughout this video we discuss what it could have looked like and some of the reasons for its cancellation.

Gone are the days of square being anything but trash. If they somehow could regain their lost glory, then yes 100% bring in another game XD
FFT is my favourite game. I'd like to see ANYTHING else from this franchise.

@@sephiroth70001 That's approximately 33% better. Triangle Strategy brings Fire Emblem to mind with it's well known strategic weapon triangle. Regardless if it's a good game it doesn't matter what it's called, but it could affect sales as casual gamers and those less familiar with Japanese RPGs would be less likely to purchase something they've never heard of that has a stupid name.
It doesn’t have to be FFT2, but a new Tactics would be very welcome. Excited for that new Triangle game.
I'm very excited for Triangle. Just in the demo there was a meaningful choice that resulted in completely different battle & who you recruited. Now that through the course of the game I hope it's a game I can return to over the years.
Bravely Default/Bravely Second always felt like a return to classic FF games, and this feels like the return to an amazing story tactics

They went with Octopath Traveler, despite everyone telling them the name was weird...

Final Fantasy Tactics is my favorite game of all time. I am 34 and was 11 when I first played it. I still play it at least once every one to two years since release and it is still as fun as the first time I played it. It holds such a giant piece of my heart.
I am currently playing FFTA2 at the time of this video and while it isn't the same thing I still really enjoy it. And it is nice to be back in Ivalice.
Not sure why another game that follows the original or even a modern remaster hasn't been made available. I know they did the PSP port, but the slowdown in that version especially when I know the game so well, is abhorrent and the definitive way to experience this amazing game is the original PS1 version IMO.
A release of War of the Lions that fixes the issues of that would be wonderful.

I actually think the opposite.
While I also think the lag in the PSP version is a letdown, the truth is that is not something game breaking, and after playing War of the Lions I just can't go back to the original version, I tried and I couldn't.
Missing all that extra content (in the story, as I don't care about multiplayer), Luso (I don't care about Balthier), the buffs Meliadoul got in her skills, the extra scenes, the extra missions for Bewoulf and Agrias, having enough space to keep all my characters (this was such a big flaw in the original) etc, I just didn't feel well not having them with I tried to play the original again.

The story of FFT was such a big part of my childhood. My friends and I would bring our PSXs to the same house and all sit around and play our individual copies, talk about our plans, our job classes, the lore. Those memories are great. Even at 12 years old, we fell in love with the complexities of that world. I still play through the whole game every couple of years (on my old PSX and a CRT tv). I just hope one day they can expand on it. Thanks for the great content.

Did the same, but on the single game. We removed the current soldiers, selling their access.
Able to buy new soldiers, naming them after each of us. Setting Ramza on auto, we played our character as our character's turn would pop up.
One of my most favorite memories of FFT
I’m 34 now. I played my iOS version atleast 6 times. I recently restarted cause I want a team of dark knights to start the story. Lol I pray they make a new one and keep the old school classic vibe to it.
My cousin and I would play our own “two player” mode. we each our own units that we controlled and just passed the controller back and forth.
I definitely want to see FFT2 or even an HD Remake/Remaster of FFT for current-gen platforms. It's one of the few FF titles that is almost infinitely replayable with an entirely new experience due to all the different jobs and characters, and that's incredibly rare for games these days.
I kept hearing rumors that we'd get FFT:WotL and A/A2 as a compilation thing for the Switch, most of them were as part of a followup wave thing from their thing a couple years back.
Does FFT need a remaster or remake? The nice thing about it's stylised graphics is that they look as good now as they did in 1997/8.

I've been playing Fell Seal: Arbiter's Mark as it's about the only game I've found that scratches the same itch as FFT, but I'd kill for another FFT or at least a PC port of it.
Try out Tactics Ogre : We Stand Together for the PSP, very very similar game made by the same director with the same crazy story telling as FFT except there are multiple paths you can take through the game rather than the on wheels storyline of FFT

There is so much untapped potential for that style of game. It was a masterpiece.
Really hoping Triangle Strategy takes up the Square Tactics mantle. A customizable story is the replay value FFT was lacking (I replayed it anyway ;P ). If Triangle has jobs and such as well I think it will be huge.

Sadly the writing doesn't seem to be nearly as strong as FFT if the demo is any indication. FFT was serious and dark, yes, but there was humour and levity throughout as well. Triangle just looks like it's trying to be Game of Thrones.

As a Tactics RPG fan, I am really looking forward to play another Final Fantasy tactics game, as it is one of my favorite game in all time. Hope that they release a remaster or FFTWOTL in switch, with new contents, or a bunde of two FFTA games.
I had over 500hrs in both FFTA. It was the perfect games to play at work on GBA SP. When it was slow I played a mission or 3, then out it away. Saved the story missions for when I had time. The guild missions were never ending

A revival of the FFT franchise would be great. Especially along similar story telling styles to the original. Hopefully that is what will happen if the rumored Tactics remake/remaster does turn out to be true.
I'd worry about it. They'll end up screwing it up like they did with the main series.
@@lostfan5054 XVI looks promising so far, I think XIII and XV being in the same “universe” didn’t help, and people were already burnt out on XIII’s numerous sequels. I also think the VII remake has been received very well so far, and that’s from pretty much the same era as Tactics.

@@jamesmontemayor5676 I played WOTV. Didn't feel so much as a FFT despite having a SRPG gameplay. The jobs offer and customization is very limited. And you basically need to deal with the gatcha garbage, daily/weekly chores, etc. It feels as a lot of work, for very little content. Unless you are into PvP, in which case, you are likely to be blown apart by whale anyway. The closea thing to FFT I've seen, even closer than Tactics Ogre, was Fell Seal. The gameplay is basically a revamp of FFT. (Storywise, art and music, FFT is completely in another level though).
A prequel where you play as Ramza's father during the 50 yr war theres plenty of lore and back story also playing as a young Orlandu would hit the nostalgic button
Why not mentioning the latest SquareEnix survey? FF Tactics and Tactics Ogre are the two most voted titles. Unfortunately I don't know what SE does with that information. Remastering those titles? Remake/Reimagining those? Or create something completely new? We will see :)

Tactics is in my top 2 FF games. I must've played it 100 times, played some mods, messed with my own patches, and most recently FFT Battleground has been incredibly good. Thanks for covering this!
What sort of mods did you play with? Do you have a recommendation where to start with all that?
@@Scapemaster00 FFT Emergence (patch of the PSP version) is a ton of fun.
And FFT complete v2 (there’s another named Complete that is NOT finished - v2 is the right one) is probably my favorite if for no other reasons than:
Scaling enemy levels based on yours.
Ramza gains a new class progression.
One of the two patches let’s Ramza use sword skills like he always should have but I forget which.
Haha I added Elmdor Celia and Lede to my team along with Delita using a cheat cartridge. Exploder I think it was called
God, what I wouldn't give for a proper sequel (or prequel!) to FFT! The Zodiac Brave Story is so rich that they could definitely create a lot of great stuff.
They had a bit of an extension to fft in a raid series in ff14. Made me tear up honestly.
@@TheMrfrodough Its also a follow up to FFXII, and has montblanc from advance. Its Return to Ivalice. Also Mastsuno the director of ogre battle and FFT is what made Yoshi-P (FFXIV director) get into game making. His dream was always to work with him which he did in the return to ivalice.
What it really wants is a prequel set in the 50 Years War....
I loved FF Tactics - and I was so excited when I heard FFXII was set in Ivalice. Playing it felt a little bit like coming home.
It’s just a shame that Matsuno had a falling out with SE. I’d love for him to have been creating new game experiences all this time.
I just want a new Ivalice game, doesn’t matter the genre, that being said, a new sRPG would be greatly welcome.
Although I knew the vast majority of this, I am absolutely floored and near tears thinking about Matsuno's work and journey that led him to creating my 2 favorite games of all time, FFT and Vagrant Story. I only have hope that someday I could follow in his footsteps to help create a sequel to either, no matter how small the role.
Vagrant story iirc has a really good story and complex battle system very in depth. Good times were had
Would love a follow up on the production of FF12 and Tactics a2. It seams like both attempted to have darker stories originally but the change over to square enix + waddas obsession with selling sequels and asset flips didint care. Interfering adding younger characters as protagonists and making a2 lighter.
To be honest I don't care what the project is, I know he's no longer with SE but I just want to see more large scale RPGs headed by Matsuno. Ogre Battle, FFT, and Vagrant Story were some of my favorites growing up, well before I knew they shared him as a director.
This and tactics ogre are among my favorite games. I don't know how they just dropped this series and never revisited it. I'm stuck playing Fell Seal on PS4 because anything like this is suddenly slated for the switch

Also, tactics is probably my favorite game of all time. The story, music, and battle system were so different from what I had played at the time and it cemented the game as the best even now! Would love for it to come to the switch, along with ffta and ffta2!
Here’s hoping the Tactics story and genre continues on. There’s a market for it if Square Enix can bother to look.
Tactics Ogre: LUCT is every bit as good as FFT, though probably not as memorable.
Hearing about how FFT2 and Vagrant Story 2 could've been a thing hurts a little, but the task of making something better than those games is so monumental that I'm not surprised it hasn't been done yet
I fell in love with this title when I was a teenager. The PSP version was the only reason why I got a PSP lol.
FFT is an absolute work of art, anything new from this universe or with those characters would be much appreciated
I definitely wouldn’t mind seeing Tactics finally get a sequel after all these years. It’s also pretty nice that he got some exposure with the latest Dissidia game, so I would think that’d create an extra appetite for it that we hadn’t seen since the War the Lions version for PSP.
FFT from Edios Montreal, the studio behind The Avengers, scares me.
Tactics was the first final fantasy game I beat on my own. Mostly because I didn’t find any guide book for it back then lol. The nostalgia hits home big for me on this one.
It would be nice for Tactics 2 to come someday. In the meantime, it's nice that Square hasn't given up on Strategy games and we'll be getting Triangle Strategy next year. Really hopeful an optimistic about that one.

FFTA & FFTA2 were great games for what they were. Have over 500hrs in both. They are dismissed too quickly
@@drowningin Never played FFTA2 but I beat FFTA and while the gameplay was still decent, the story was horrible. The Anti-Escapist main character wasn't relatable at all. Beyond that, FUCK the Judge system. I lost so many missions and had to reset because of its stupid rules. I know they got rid of it in FFTA2 but it never should have been in to begin with.
@@Lionimia I think if you didn't like the first you wouldn't like the second they are very similar. I was working a boring tech support job when they came out so it was the perfect amount of attention, and could look away, and the GBA SP lasting basically whole shift.
I remember liking the story to 1 more, but they were similar. The first reminded me of the never ending story. The second had some better sprites more varied locations and just a bunch of tweaks you wouldn't notice unless coming from 1
What I don't like about square battles & ending direction is its so easy to get behind someone. I think Hex could offer more strategies, but isn't used enough in these types of RPGs to say definitively. All the FFT games it feels so easy to get beside/behind that there's not much you can do to protect from it.
With hex you can have dominant/weapon hand(s) if you wanted to go that deep.

This game was something else. I easily put around a thousand hours throughout my life playing it. Phenomenal, wish i could re-experience it for the first time.
I love the lore of Ivalice. I'll look to see if you have one but an in depth look into Ivalice as a whole would be really cool

Ive never played the original Tactics, But Tactics Advanced and Advanced 2 were some of my favorite games growing up. I'm really excited for Triangle Strategy, but I'm a little sad that it's not a true "Final Fantasy" game.
Play the original, it puts the advanced ones to shame. It's easily available via emulation.
this was the first tactical turn based/grid rpg game I played and it made me become an absolute fan of the genre. a real work of art.
I'd definitely be excited to see more Ivalice content in the future!
FFT is my favorite game of all time, and ever since I played it on the ps1 when I was a kid all I wanted was more of it. I've played many tactics games over the years and all of them fall short in some way. I really want to experience a game that will elevate the genre above what FFT did, but until then it'll remain the undisputed #1 on my book.
Yasumi Matsuno is a genius, FFT, Vagrant Story and FFXII are three of my favourite games ever.
I'd love for more in the setting of Ivalice and in the style of Tactics. Best we have right now is War of the Visions.
I love the first Final Fantasy Tactics. I would 100% buy a FFt2 if one was released that was a direct sequel to the orginal FFT and didn't change how the game core functions worked. I would want the job system to be the same and all the Jaz. Though I never really understood the zodiac system how some characters get along better with other depending on what there zodiac sign where.

I love your channel, but just want to offer a correction. A game's frame rate has nothing to do with how fast it loads off of a cd-rom or cartridge. Square made good use of the hardware to get it to run at 60fps, but lots of other PS1 games ran at 60fps, the Tekken series for one. And on the other hand, you'll find lots of N64 games that run at embarrassingly low frame rates.
Both FFT and Vagrant Story hild special places in my heart. The storylines, music, character designs and gameplay are just perfect. I still remember how I felt and reacted when I stumbled upon The War of the Lions teaser. I would welcome any piece of IP that Matsuno chooses to give us!❤️
I loved Final Fantasy Tactics and Ogre Battle March of the Black Queen. two of my favorite games. Even taking one of the Ogre Battle characters and making a feminine version that I use for MMO characters, turning Canopus into Canopia.
FFTA is my favorite game ever, and got me to try FFT and other FF games. I'll support any new installment to the Tactics franchise, just for how much it means to me.

If anything, I would love another ivalice game. The ingredients: a story with the same qualities as FFT/XII ; compelling character designs by Akihiko Yoshida; music by Hitoshi Sakimoto. And Shakespearean localization, with half the lines being raw as hell.
It's such a unique atmosphere... They had really captured lightning in a bottle with three people. I'm just longing to see more of XII (which I always felt ended a solid third too early).

Final Fantasy Tactics is my #1 most favorite RPG game.
(I also enjoyed the War of the Lion remaster on PSP. The animated cutscenes were very well done and voice acted.)
Final Fantasy 6 and Chrono Trigger being my #2 and #3.
I would love to see future Final Fantasy Tactics games with pixelart aesthetics similar to FFTA, only more hi-bit. It would be cool if, much like all the Ivalice games take place, supposedly in the same world as the original Tactics and later FFXII, that they re-used some other already known settings. I would love a FFT set in Spira, for example.

I would love to have more in the post lion war-era of FFT. The FFTA universe is too meta for my taste and FF12 has a compleatly different tone.

Final Fantasy Tactics and FF6 are my favourite from the franchise, the storytelling is amazing for both.
And right now Matsuno and Sakaguchi are playing FF14 together!
Project triangle strategy is going to scratch that itch I think. Very excited for that one.
I want a FF Tactics sequel. I want to tame some more Behemoths and Black Chocobos.
I want a sequel to Vagrant Story because that game was Bad Ass.

Final Fantasy Tactics: The Zodiac Trials. It could play similarly to the original, except take place long before. Maybe center around primal rituals, forbidden magics in a dark and gritty story leading to the creation of the Zodiac Stones. Idk, I can dream.
FFT is my island game but I am thorn.
On one side I think Matsuno still have some great ideas floating around that head of his that were not used. FFXIV Bozja fans can attest to that.
On the other side, there is the question of how much a producer (I am looking at you fate man!) or even Sqex would interfere to try and make it a blockbuster.
My excitement for Sqare Enix products has diminished in recent years, but a tactics game would likely drag me back in.
I have played all of them and it all leaves me wanting more. The tactics franchise is literally my favourite Final Fantasy franchise. After FFTA2 and some poor attempt at playing Tactics S, i honestly believed Ivalice would be back again soon.

As for your question, yes and yes. Who doesn’t want an fft 2 with juicy conflict, stunning tactics rpg style Combat and art. What I really wish for is that they bring out something that allows players to play games against one another. Like my party against yours sorta thing. No idea if that would ever be a thing but a human being can hope 😊

I 100% would like another extension of the story in FFT. Pretty much any format would be nice, but another game is always welcome. I always enjoyed Ivalice as a setting in game as well as the extensive branches in character relationships. I got this and FF7 around the same time when I was a kid and each game sunk my younger self so deeply into the franchise I've been made a fan for life. If I had the creative freedom to choose the next installment it would definitely center around the inception of the Zodiac Braves and the stories that made up their legends.
We would love to get a proper sequel of the original FFT story with new features, that would be awesome
I would love to see more stuff from Ivalice…..however only if Matsuno is involved. I know he retired from the gaming industry due to health reasons, but if he helped to write and direct that would be enough for me. It would not be the same without him.
Tactics 2 would be a welcome game. But, at this point, I would also love an HD Tactics Collection. The GBA games might not be as good but they were still fun. They could even add Revnant Wings to fill it out as the Ivalice Collection.

I just want to add to the crowd, FFT is my favorite game of all time, hands down. 20 years later and few games have ever resonated that way with me. I'd love if they remastered War of the Lions for PS4/5, I'd buy that in a heartbeat. Just a way to enjoy this classic on modern consoles would be enough for me. A new entry would be amazing, although I wasn't as fond of Advance and A2. I know that's subjective, but how do you improve on perfection?
FF Tactics Advance 2 is actually one of my favorite games of all time. Its for the DS, but damn I have spent hours in it. Replayed it recently and its way better then FFT Advance. Give it a shot
It has a good spiritual successor in Fell Seal, just don't go in expecting the same art style. It's far more D&D aesthetically inspired.
This is probably blasphemy, but I actually liked Fell Seal's class system a lot more than FFTactics/Tactics Ogre's. I got used to the art style, too, after a couple of hours. The only itch it didn't scratch was Matsuno's storytelling. (And, well, I am a fan of the cooperative multiplayer in FFTactics.)
But if I could have a class system as good as Fell Seal's combined with Matsuno's storytelling, I would be one happy cat.
@@ValeVin yea well matsuno intrigue us second to none, so I wasn't expecting that level of storytelling. There are a lot of imitators that try to write a story akin to how he wrote fft and the ogre series and they always fall flat with tons of flowery language and expository nonsense.
FFT is one of my top 5 favorite FF games of all time. Always hoping for more, Ofcourse the PSP has given us a wonderful War of the Lions update and it's simply marvelous. Here's to hoping to have maybe a remake or a sequel in the near future.

I never heard of FFT before I only heard about it after the FF games. I did not even know it was related to FF franchise and I became quite curious about this and thought if the story is as good as the other FF games.

FFTA is besides FF8 the only RPG i keep replaying every year at least once for the last ~19years. I always try to replay it differently to the playthroughs before. Thats a great challenge i made for myself. 2 masterpieces of my childhood i'll never forget.
A true masterpiece and i'd dare say the best Final Fantasy (imo). Hopefully it gets some love soon. Maybe in the form of collection with FFTa and ffta2 re-released to work well with current systems.
My god, I wish Ivalice was expanded on. If they could recapture the depth of the original game, with some adjustments to QOL changes that people are used to, I would buy that in a heartbeat. I hold out hope that triangle strategy (name TBD) could be that future. We'll see, big battle boots to fill.
