- This is a unboxing and quick setup of my new Sony STR-DH750 A/V receiver which I'm upgrading to from my old Yamaha RX-V450. I was setting up and testing this with my 5.1 ch Dynavoice speaker system.
To read more about this A/V receiver, visit Sony's website:

Speakers used:
Dynavoice Challenger M-65 EX (v.2 Floor Speaker x2)
Dynavoice Challenger C-5 EX (v.2 Center Speaker x1)
Dynavoice Challenger S-5 EX (v.2 Surround Speaker x2)
Dynavoice Definition SW-10 EX (Subwoofer x1)
This thing is Outstanding! I just picked it up at Best Buy for $150. The STR-DH750. It was a Christmas store return. I briefly watched your review on my phone while in the store debating to buy it and I am glad I did! I just completed setting it all up and I was surprised how easy it all went. Took me about 30-45min total. Granted I did have all of the existing wiring ready and run through the wall as there was an 18yr old Kenwood unit there before that this Sony is replacing. I used that little calibration mic and went to the setting in the menu and man it worked fantastic! My Panasonic Viera TV remote even controls the volume and mute on the Sony receiver. The HDMI knows when to switch to sound for TV, or to use as a monitor for the Sony on screen features and automatically changes the input. The bluetooth was super easy to link to my iPhone 6 and I used Pandora to test it. It has a far BT range and sounded great. I could control the volume thru the iPhone via Pandora and the volume buttons on the phone or... I could control the volume and EQ thru the Sony app I downloaded. Maybe I got lucky but all I really did was hook up the wires and turn it on. It pretty much does the rest. It was not as complicated as my old Kenwood unit to set up that is for sure. Also less wires now that I have HDMI's. And just now as I am writing this with my Netflix and TV on pause for several minutes the Sony unit turned itself off. My TV shuts off after an hour with no activity so that's good to know if I fall asleep or leave the house. As for the Sony sound compared to my old Kenwood which was a $500 top of the line in it's day DTS receiver. They are close, I am using the same speakers after all, but the Sony does sound little brighter and more crisp. The best thing to me is being able to control this thing from my kitchen or another room in the house with my iPhone. Victor, Thank You for your time in making this review it helped me a lot and I hope anyone reading mine will buy it with confidence as it is a fantastic unit and a great value for the price!
+Bill Biscoe Thanks for your comment and I'm glad I could help you out with this video. It's a great unit as you say!
I just bought this today. It's not just a great receive for $200, it's a great receiver all around. Very loud, crisp quality sound with very little to no noticeable distortion. Will power whatever powerhouse speakers you want to attach. For the price, this receiver is a Steal!!!
looking to get it today thank you for the post ( was not going to ) because ) set up look hard. but you help me a lot. thank you. once again
Oh, thanks! Glad I could help out! :)
Hi, I got an STR-DN840 last year, and I've only just heard of your STR-DH750. Could you tell me what features differ from your receiver and mine? I read somewhere that my one is Hi-Res audio too, but there isn't the Hi-Res logo on the front of my amp. Do you know whether the STR-DN840 is Hi-Res? Thanks for your help. Peace
I'm not too into all the features of the different models. Feel free to compare different units on the Sony website here: store.sony.com/a-v-receivers/cat-27-catid-all-receivers
Does this support dolby atmos?
wonderful product...just replaced my 23 year old sony. If my friends keep bringing up their "Sound Bars" and how great they are I'm gonna lose it! :)
Can you answer a question for me? I'm looking to purchase this, but I need to know of the connections on the back are screw on. Like do you need to unscrew the cap, pit the wire in, then scree it back down? Thanks!
+Jordan Kalinas Hi! Yes, the analog speaker connectors are "screw on". You unscrew the cap and get the ability to put the cable in from the side, then lock it down by tightening the cap.
Hope this answer was useful.
+Victor Holmqvist This model does support banana plugs!
after all this time you've had with it, how does it perform? Would you recommend it?
Just bought one from the thrift store for $30. Have not tried it out yet.
Thanks for your response, I did contact Sony but they agreed that it must be a function. I do not have a comprehensive ownership Manuel so I not sure how to proceed. Anyway, thanks again....mike
Alright. Well I presume they have a digital manual online. Maybe that will help?
Ok see I have 7 in ceiling speakers in my living room, 2 in the master bedroom and 2 in the guest bedroom. All the speakers work in the living room but none in the bedroom. Any ideas why they won't come on?
Hit "B" speakers on the front..
Ive had this AVR for awhile and I'm contemplating on switching from having my surround backs set to front hight. Does it make much of a noticeable difference? Obviously its not atmos or dtsx
How did you hook that into the TV? I have the str1030 and have been using it as a stereo. I want to be able to use my system for more than a stereo.
They are hooked up via HDMI.
hello, I have the SONY STR-DH740 and Subwoofer PSW10, but I can't seem to get
it right. No matter what I do, I have a loud humming noise from the
subwoofer as soon as I turn it on. (STR-DH740 has 2 subwoofer connections.)
Can you tell me, what cable can I use to connect the Receiver to the
subwoofer?
I have the monoprice cable (Coaxial Audio/Video RCA CL2 Rated Cable M/M
RG6U 75ohm) and monoprice splitter (Female to 2-RCA Male Digital Coaxial
Splitter Adapter). Am I using the wrong cable?
Soo good!!
I have the DH 750 previously had connected with no problems. Recently switched from comcast to direct tv and now my sub won't work when watching tv. Works with bluetooth streaming music and even works in some dvr'd recordings. What could this be? Should the co-axel cord be connected in the right or left "sub out". This is extremely frustrating! Help please
can you use the caliberater as a aux cord as well ?
i also looking at the sony receiver ? but the auto callibration i don't trust , so quik done , my onkyo now do 5 Minutes of callibration , even the denon 15 Minutes, wath you think about the sound quality??
Do you think it will work with my Samsung ht-c6500 speakers with 16 gauge wires.
My speakers work, the TV recognizes the receiver, says "Switching to external audio speakers". Caliberated, checked I think all the settings. Tried different HDMI outputs, but I cannot get the sound. The speakers are working with the receiver, but I cannot get it to play with my TV, I get no sound. Any help appreciated
I just bought this unit last week. I have everything hooked up through HDMI. I was watching a Blu Ray and it displayed Linear PCM. I didn't see the DTS-HD Master Audio light display on. Does your lights display what mode of audio is happening?
Did you maybe watch it on the PS3? If so, everything is correct as the PS3 is decoding the sound and sending it a LPCM to the receiver.
Hey it's a good video.
Tell me..do you know if it's possible to connect a mic to this? I have one similar to this however I can't do it. Thnks..
I do not know, but I doubt it'd be possible unless you can go through a regular input via some converter.
This might be a very stupid question but can I hook up a microphone to this unit?
No, not for PA use. There is a "mic" input but it's only for the calibration microphone that comes with the unit.
Thank you so much for the reply. Would there by anyway for me to hook up an external device so I could utilize a microphone. The system is bose speakers connected to this unit. @@VictorHolmqvist
@@domeskeetz Well, any self-powered mic system or other system (like a mixer) that can output as, or converted to, RCA could be utilized/connected to any of the RCA inputs on the unit.
@@VictorHolmqvist Thank you.
Good video my friend, very helpful but would have been nice to talk abit about the options and features it offers. Something to consider for next video, it doesn't really bother me because i already know everything it does but for the people who dont and aren't good researchers lol. No offense to them 👍
Thanks! I totally agree with you, but at the time I made this video, I did not expect it to be that popular (in terms of views). If I would have made this video today, I would have improved it in a lot of areas. Just a few days after I uploaded it, I started to see where I could have done much better in explaining and showing how things worked. But at the same time, I didn't know all the in-and-outs of the unit when I made the video.
It really was my first "commentary" video on YT, but thanks for the feedback anyways!
***** Ahh i see then, makes sense but keep in mind stuff like this A/V recivers, speakers and tech stuff will get you quite a few views. Im thinking of doing an unboxing my self on the STR-DH740. Its the same as yours but without the bluetooth, i really dont need that feature because i has a bluetooth stereo system i use lol. And no problem on the recommendations, so hows the receiver working so far? Any problems? And how dose the sound quality sound to you?
Freddy Maldonado Yeah, I noticed ;).
As mentioned in the description, I upgraded from a Yamaha RX-V450, not because it was something wrong with that one, but because I wanted more digital features, like the Bluetooth connectivity that is amazing, and to be able to hook up all media units through the same center point so to say. When it comes to sound quality, I can't say I really heard a big difference (as it already was superb with the old one). But the simplicity with this one is awesome. It has worked without any problems whatsoever since I got it.
Though, one thing I miss with this one compared to the more expensive ones in the series, is the lack of visual graphics in the UI. The UI/menu system of mine is basically just a BIOS interface (only text, no images or transition fx). The more expensive ones, from the 850 and above IIRC, has this very elegant menu interface. Though, this does ofc not affect the sound experience in any way.
***** man im so mad...i had typed up a whole paragraph and somebody called me and it just deleted everything i typed! (Yes im on my smart phone)
Freddy Maldonado I feel your frustration bro, hate when it happens. I never type long paragraphs on my phone though. Still just a #firstworldproblem ;)
Well, my old one did not have HDMI either. I've also been mistaken for a few years because I thought optical was better than HDMI. Apparently it was not :p
I'm not too educated on the different terms of codecs and speaker configurations. Right now I'm using a 5.1 ch setup with the surround speakers at the back. I think I'd prefer back surround over side. But after reading some on the Dolby website just now, I think I should go to a store and listen to setups using both side and front top speaker setups. The front top might give a interesting sound dimension.
whats the app that u used? i have a str-dn850 but it does not have a remote so i need a app and so far the ones i found dont work
+Jesus Garcia If you are talking about the app I use to control the receiver, it's called "SongPal" and is the official app from Sony for controlling their devices.
+Victor Holmqvist owesome thank you so much
i have Sony 1000-Watt 5.1 Channel 3D Blu-Ray Home Theatre System (BDVE4100)? how i can connect the speaker in the reciever thank you.
hey bro. just got a question i am having a bluetooth issues with this reciever. whenever i play music with bluetooth, it cuts the music off.
I have a similar model, the Sony STR-DN1070. Are you still having issues with bluetooth?
I'm not getting sound from center and rear. App has speakers grayed out. Is my receiver not working properly?
Hard for me to tell, but have you checked that the cables are connected properly? And that the receiver it set to something that matches your speaker setup?
What does the Fox Say!
Just bought this receiver. Does anyone know if you can password protect the wifi connection, between the receiver and your phone? Thanks!
Look at the ac mains cord!!
Victor, my 750 has developed a quirk.... the digital display vanished after displaying source. It displays then pooof gone. Aggravating to modify, help....
Michael Larson I'm not sure what the problem is and I don't have mine close by so I can't test anything. Maybe it's a setting depending on the time before it goes black? You're probably best off contacting Sony support if you can't solve it.
Man I got one of these receivers and it rocks. The display does not work. I can still pair the Bluetooth and it powers my subwoofer excellent like ... Great sound. I love it!
how do you use aux
I recently purchased this receiver. However, I'm unable to get any sound from my subwoofer. Have you been successful setting up your subwoofer? Thanks.
set speakers on small
hey bro i need some help here, look i have the receiver STR-DH750 A/V...i hook it up with my boss speaker the problem is my subwoofer does not work any idea why ..or make a video how you installed wires, hdmi port...pls man.
Well, there are a lot of possible things that can cause it to not work preoperly. I assume you have checked power, cables and other basic factors? Did you connect it via the sub-woofer port on the receiver?
yes i did , but it does'nt make any sound i checked one by one the speaker work fine and only problem is the sub woofer , tried with sony sub woofer nothing happen....dont know what to do.
CHORY GODOY If you say that you even tried another sub, I would assume it has to do with the settings on the receiver. Is it set to a mode that matches your speaker setup?
Did you make sure your speaker configuration in the setup screen had how many speakers you have plus .1 for the sub.
Like this video, thanks
Great vid, love the One+1, any invites?
Thanks! Appreciate the feedback.
Sorry I have no code to give away but if you look on Twitter, people are giving away codes daily. Though you will be able to pre-order the phone from next week from what I understand.
+Victor Holmqvist
What are the dimensions of this receiver?
You should be able to find those specifications online via Google.
Lost my manual getting error -33.
advice?
By reading the help guide from Sony, it seems there is something wrong with one or multiple speaker(s) or connector(s). You can read the messages here: goo.gl/NEHlRH
6:30 Weeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!
Haha. Some kids in the stairwell outside my apartment having fun ;).
wera from thes bracelet you get? my wife want make one for son. never have nice jewlsy my son
+2HardBackRub This specific paracord bracelet is from the game developer DICE, but they do not sell these anymore.
Stand alone Sony blu ray player.
Well, I'm not really sure then. Because from what I've read, it should in your case display the DTS letters on the receiver. I've had mine display DTS when streaming DTS coded audio from PS3 Media Server to my PS3.
I found this online, maybe it could help. goo.gl/OPjsBx
New Sony receiver's don't compare to the old one's build quality wise, These new machines are made of the cheapest plastics on the market.
Ey, bror! Är du svensk? Hahaha xDD
please stop rubbing your finger on the box lol
waste of time
that's about it but the playing of it all :-/
