This is my first petrol mower, and must say I am very happy to have come across your very informative video many thanks 😊 for taking the time to learn us newbies.
Hi, hope you can help . My collection Box keeps coming apart. Detaches and splits from where it has been clipped in all around the sides. So the cloth bit comes away iv tried clipping it back in so many times. Slightest back movement or a bump in the groud , splits off again. Thanks
What's the mulching like in terms of the finish? Do you prefer to cut and collect in the basket as opposed to mulching? How is manoeuvrability when using the self propell function? Can you use the mower as a push mower, for when you do not want the self propell function?
Hi Mower Man, we have just recently bought this model and yet to test it out. I notice the engine chasais looks a little different. Do Briggs and Stratton still exist? I thought the company dissolved since 2020?
Hi, just assembled my Mountfield SP185 mower with the Stiga ST140 engine. I have 2 small plastic bags left. One has a small Blag plug in it, the other 2 screws with washers. Any idea where they go. Thanks, Peter
@@MowerMan thanks. i know some mountfield mowers have briggs and stratton engines but the sp42 is Powered by a Mountfield ST120 123cc 4 stroke is there a big difference in reliability between engines? is the st120 just as good as a briggs and stratton? cheers
Excellent video and very informative. Can you please tell me if the self propelled speed is adjustable? In order to slow it down or speed it up accordingly to one's personal preference?
Hiya mate. I bought one of these mowers last year. I’ve tried to start it for the first time this year but it’s not starting. The filter looks ok to me. Any ideas on why this could be? Thanks!
Hi there. Great videos Mower man; very informative..thank you! I have recently purchased this lawn mower (our first self propelled petrol mower) please could you advise...should both rear wheels turn when using the self drive? I expected they would however on ours only the left hand wheel turns. Is this a manufacturing fault or is this meant to be? Thank you in advance.
Hi Mower Man, I am just about to buy a new mower. I currently own a Hayter motif push mower which I have had for 12 years and serviced once in all that time which was basically just an oil change. I have used and abused it and it has been a hard working mower. It has a Honda engine and every spring is starts up pretty much first time after sitting in the garage all winter and no issues. As I'm sure you know Hayter mowers are very expensive now so I am thinking of getting a Mountfield. In your opinion is the sp53h significantly better than the sp185? Obviously I am drawn to the more expensive sp53h as it has the Honda autochoke engine. What would your advice be, is the Honda engine much better than the Briggs and Stratton?
What mower would you recommend for a medium sized lawn that's on a slight gradient. My grass is really long atm. Had a bosch rotak and it was abysmal. Would you consider this one? And is the mulching decent on this? Thanks in advance would appreciate any help as there's so much to chose from.
My SP185 is less than12 months old . The pins on the blade boss have shorn so I have been sent a replacement . How do you take off the existing blade boss?
Thank you and best of luck with your future endeavours. Speaking as a sneaky southerner, there is something inherently trustworthy about a review from a straightforward northerner! Haha
after watching your video, and read a few reviews on this model I've just bought one of these to maintain my little 200m2 jungle once it's been cut down by some professionals (mainly due to not having a lot of time to do it myself). What score would you give this out of 10?

Any advice for a self propelled mower for under 200 pounds
What's the mulching like in terms of the finish?
Do you prefer to cut and collect in the basket as opposed to mulching?
How is manoeuvrability when using the self propell function?
Can you use the mower as a push mower, for when you do not want the self propell function?
Would you go for this Briggs model or a Mountfield with a Honda engine?
I run a small gardening business do you think this mower will handle being used on a dally basis .thanks
yes it's pretty robust. one of the stronger mountfields

Looks like it does a great job of cutting. Thanks for showing us the mower and what it can co. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!

Hi the 2 screws an washer goes in the grass bag to secure the metal bar. The plug goes into the flap when mulching
Hi do you have the part number for the self drive cable I need to replace mine as the cable has broke
Thanks for the video - very insightful. Can't figure out the difference between the SP185 or the SP42? Is one newer?
great video i'v just ordered the mountfiel sp 42 mower what are your thought on that model? have i made a good choice? cheers
alexe54 Yes you should be fine with that

self propelled is not adjustable...single speed.
I have recently just bought one of these and the grad catcher always un clips and the grass falls out I can’t see why it keeps doing it any help???

Old fuel, petrol only lasts about 2 months, use fuel fit from briggs and stratton, clean out carb and drain old fuel
Do self propelled not have the Tortoise Hare selector level anymore? Had one on my dad’s mower, haven’t seen one since.
689Twin Not very often. A lot of the more modern set ups on cheaper mowers don't have it. The honda mowers do though.
Does this mower pick up all the cuttings, I don't want any spread while I'm cutting if possible?
Thanks
It's powerful enough to do a decent job of that yes. Better than electric if that help. Having a sharp blade and cutting dry grass only will also help
Can u do a review of the 2021 sovereign 40cm hand propelled petrol mower from homebase ?
you forgot to go over the mulching plug and how the grass gets cut with it installed...

Hi, good video. Can I use it cutting but without the self drive for doing tricky corner bits?
Yes you can! when you want the self drive to stop just release the handle, the engine will keep running (2 seperate handles)
@@MowerMan Ok, thanks a lot!
Does this leave lovely stripes on the lawn?
No you need one with a rear roller for that
How do I adjust the speed? Our grounds keeper says its running too fast. I cant see anything in the 22pg manual that says you can adjust it.
lift the petrol tank up and bend the tab with the spring behind it. Make sure machine is not running.

I did a review in an s481 that was good and had decent mulching. Easy height adjustment for long grass also
How does this mower handle damp/wet grass, thank you
It won't be great as it only has a small chute
Why didn't you show the mulching facility and how to store the mower?
I show how to fit a mulch plug in the other videos, this was just a quick review. Thanks for watching

Great review! I'd this the best mower at this price bracket c. £250 for a medium size garden, or would you recommend another? Thanks
This is good It should be perfect. You dont need anything bigger

Hi good video, and demonstration. You did a better job of cutting as you collect the grass that looks much better.
Thanks 👍
cuts very well
Yeah it's a good all rounder Roy. I like the deck and the briggs engine
Cheers
I have seven cutting heights in
