  • Sailing vessel Tapatya. We get to Viveiro and Alanouwoly, to reunite Hazel with her boat. We make a major decision regarding our future sailing and I talk about future ideas for this channel.
    This is the story of SV Tapatya, a self-built, Jay Benford designed, 31.8ft, junk schooner-rigged cruising sailboat. The videos are a week-by-week record of our adventures as I live aboard, sail and strive to find out just what such a self-built, low-budget vessel is capable of.
    These videos take a lot of time and effort to make, in what is already a time-intensive project. Your support in watching, subscribing and sharing these videos is very much appreciated. You make a real difference!!

    Ha! Your first mackrel, but not your last. Excellent catch, Tony and Hazel. I've been offline for a while and now I'm catching up on your excellent videos. What an achievement for you both to have come this far since April. I'm looking forward to the next chapter, as you cautiously nose your way south down the Atlantic coast, towards (I'll say it) Africa! Because it's in that general direction isn't it? Thank you for this video and it's wonderful to see Hazel reuntied with Alanouwoly. Cheers, Chris.

    That sounds like a good plan Tony. That orca pod is so menacing, I thought they went for the bigger boats, 40+, but what do I know? Thanks Tony for the tour!

    When sailing the only real plan is to sail. All other plans are only plans. I don't want to get too deep here Tony and boggle your mind so I will just wait and see what happens next week!!!
    Cheers Tony.

    Tony, you can be really proud of your achievment building and sailing this boat. As well as the passion and spirit you have transmitted to your daughters !
    Concernant the french canal and the Gironde, I beleve your second change of plans was not necessary. Saili g the Gironde is no big deal, people do it everyday (I have done it, delivering China Blue to her new owner). Tides are great, you can take advantage of the tidal stream and planning is not that difficult. Too bad, I would have loved to see you in Toulouse!
    Fair winds anyway, to you and Hazel. Patrick

    If you visit Portugal, Nazare is beautiful, but the dining is expensive. Cascais is equally picaresque, but far more affordable, and only a short ride away from Lisbon. Be sure to try the 'Vino Verde'...

    Congratulations on your trip so far. Great seeing you enjoying the boat after all the work you put into it! I look forward to seeing more of your travels and videos on how your systems are getting on. (Particularly keen on seeing how the junk rig is doing/if you're planning some tweaks to it)
    I was also wondering after seeing that ports mooring setup (and that you'll be picking up plenty of moorings in the future single handed) if it would be worth investing in one of those boat hooks that passes a line through a ring (Robship moor & hook?)

    • @SVTapatya
      @SVTapatya  Місяць тому +1

      Thanks Sean. I’m sure the Robship mooring hook thing ia a handy piece of kit, but it wouldn’t have helped in that situation. It’d certainly be good for a single-hander trying to pick up a mooring though 🤔👍😃

    Nobody has died from an orca attack, but boats _have_ capsized by keeping too close to the shore in difficult weather (the Danish boat in recent memory). You seem like cautious sailors, so I'm not worried, just thought I'd mention it.

His videos are a bit historic as I looked him up on Marine Traffic and he is already near the Irish coast. In the video I watched he was one day out from USA.
