It’s quite interesting to see a prototype of the 2005 furby, especially because this one has the original furby voice. If I could try to get a prototype like this, I definitely would try to get one
one person claimed their mom worked at the furby company (hasbro/tiger ltd) but they said the furby got thrown out when they moved and they said they had a video of them playing with the furby but since they did not post anymore proof its hard to believe if it got kept or out there somewhere
You know, i wonder why they didnt keep this design? Its so cute, and seems a bit more expressive than the final design. Then again, this one alone probably costed hundreds of dollars to make, so...
It was much better than the final product. This voice was the best and the fact that you don't need to say "Hey Furby" all the time makes it great for a more natural interaction.
The reason why this one has better electronics then the final product is because it might’ve been too expensive to make. They probably had to cut costs in order to mass produce them.
I think the same way. if you look closely you will notice that this furby has a movable eyebrow, or rather its creases, or that it has a movable body. there is information that this prototype has more than two engines (therefore it is larger than the final version) probably the deformed shape of the current wine furby from the fact that the dimensions in the middle changed and they had to narrow it and the reduced eyes to fit on a smaller furby. In short, they did not want to adjust its appearance from the beginning, so they did it with the xd door pirates. that's why, unfortunately, it is quite a poor generation :( ps. I am writing with a translator so the text may be distorted
You know what's really interesting? You can hear the actual gears of the 1998 furby running when the prototype here speaks; what's that all about, I wonder? 😮 And they don't sound like they're coming from a speaker or a certain area in the room, they sound edited-in to me; it makes me wonder where on Earth this demonstration was filmed, as I don't think Furby here would be presented at a toy fair moving without a word to speak in a conpletely quiet room 🤔 perhaps this video was also done by a toy designer who also built the furby, and the demonstration was made to show exexutives at Hasbro to see if it'd get greenlit! But then, why wouldn't they just make this demonstration happen in real life at Headquarters instead of film it with seemingly edited-in sound clips? I have quite a few questions on this video, so to speak! I'm not thinking too hard though because I know there won't be much for answers, as the uploader probably isn't even the person who filmed this demo, but it's still fun to think of things; think of why, and how something like this came to be!
It doesn't just sound edited; it looks edited too. I suspect they used a bit of CGI like they did with the OG Furby commercial lmao. Do you see how he basically doesn't touch the Furby at all but the sensors still detect him feeding/(not even) touching his belly? Lol. Not in a million years. You'd really have to press down.
Well I dont have it anymore when I moved out of state alot of my stuff got thrown out but I do think I have a short 20 second video on my childhood camera lol and sorry I hadnt responded at all to u guys
They built a weird mechanism in that only makes a tone when the mouth moves or something . My friend broke the mouth of his Furby and from there the Furby started glitching and screeching 🤷♂️
The Emototronic Furby is an adorably horrifying thing. This prototype is cuter, and I love the fluffy body and ears, but I don't know who decided flesh-tone beaks/feet/eyelids was a great idea, especially rubber that would obviously wear out or rot over time...if it'd been a yellow rubber for the beak and fur-tone eyelids and whatnot it'd be a lot better but yeesh. I want one for my collection but I'd probably put a sheet over it at night so it doesn't freak me out lol Also why's the guy feeding it...like that?
As damned creepy and evil looking this...THING is...I must admit...the more I watch the more adorable it gets! It has a much, much wider range of expressions than the 2005 versions plus as a bonus is way more sensitive to touch. The 2005 ones you have to press on the sensors. Also it's a lot more responsive! Those insane brows for instance!!!! I'd get one! Where could I get one of these Furbys?
Just stupid you need a smart device. Sad how children these days need cell phones and computers. I was a 90's kid, only ever played little games and videos on Shock Wave back in 1999. But we weren't allowed online, then again, it was dial-op at the time. lol Give me an old fashioned furby over the LED ones any day. They should bring back the classic style and just add more movements, actual AI, and servo eyes which can go 360. Screw having to use apps.
That's what I figured. I think I actually like it better than the mass-produced 2005 Furbies, due to how it has the classic Furby voice. And it seems more expressive, too.
wileyk209zback Ahoyhoy! me as well, although I do like the pelt colour of my two thousand five Furby. its white with brown eyes. I named him Prince Carrots.
He is creepy but incredibly realistic!!! what year is it from? I know he's a prototype but were emoto-tronics supposed to be like that? case that would have been awesome!!!
Okay, I gotta admit as back then, I never honestly knew about the Furby prototypes and originally thought this was just a custom that looked kinda ugly at the time I've seen it but since I found out that this is an actual early prototype 2005 Furby a few years later with the 1998/1999 Furby voice chip (before the 2005 Furby voice chip updated later on), I actually like it a lot more now than I did before and I find it cute and weird at the same time than just ugly as it is a prototype. I feel like this is what the final production 2005 Emototronic Furbies should've looked like back then based on some of the prototypes like this one as it looks much more realistic than the final production ones and makes more sense too. I really wonder how many prototypes of the 2005 Furbies there were that Hasbro made before they released the final production ones in many cheerful colors. Besides, either love it or hate it (even on the outside of the prototype 2005 Furby), it's still pretty amazing to this day as I'm sure this little guy would be anyone's dream to have!

Well, there's a chance that some might have escaped the factory and might go to eBay or something similar
I wish it was what they were acctually going to look like
Ghaztly I highly doubt this was ever in a factory as prototypes are typically made and used as a example for the new product and are normally handmade
