- What is your favorite tractor from the 1970's? In this video viewers will see 12 big iron tractors from the major tractor brands in United States from the 1970's at work out in the field. I drove a international 966 growing up, still a good tractor today.
We had a Case 1370 when I was growing up and when I first saw pictures of the “Pride of ‘76” Case paint jobs I was blown away 😄
back then my favorite was "with a cab"
Some stunning machines there, the seventies really was a great era for tractor production.
My favorite from this video was the 1066 as my grandfather had a white strip 1066 but my favorite from the 70's was the 1568 V8
I live in Denmark in Scandinavia. For many years I`ve owned a MF 2805. It has never let me down, and it pulls like a train, and it still works as it should. And "yess", I read all kinds of negative comments about this tractor, but I just cant find any negative words to say about it. I love this old 2805.
The 2805 is an impressive tractor. At 195 pto hp it was the largest 2wd tractor built in the 70’s. The 2805 is on my top 10 wish list to film. Thank you for sharing.
I love the 2805 Massey's they are very impressive. I have a 1990 Massey Ferguson 3070 4cly 92hp. fuel efficient tractor. Myself and many others really like the 3070's but some people will steer away from them because of the electronics.
I can't be quite right in the head, here I am watching a video on these old tractors after spending all afternoon chisel plowing with a Massey from that era!!! Good job Jason!

Die hard Red Power guy here. I’d love to have a 1006 in the shed, great tractors, always loved the black stripes. My uncle has a black stripe 966 he bought brand new, it’s his baby. Tachs rolled over at least once and is still going strong.
Always been a Case man. David Brown too, Mighty MO's a close second. The 1570 was a real beast, pushed the limits of what a 2wd could do traction wise, even with duals.
I have great memories of pulling a plow with our 2-135 White. I did most of the plowing and I chopped a lot of corn with it too. That was when I was in my 20's.
My dad had a Ford 8700 & 9700 and AC7030 from the 70's that I drove while home from college.
I think the best decade of tractors. All the basic features CAH, good power range, and still easy to service. Simple life.
My favorite from the 1970s was the Case 1070. I put so many acres and hours in riding around the fields in it.

Isn't it strange how hp went up in tractors etc.. while it went down in cars and trucks? Maybe we should drive farm machinery on the streets and camaros in the fields.
We did aat a tractorcade in Topeka for parity. In 1976 I think a long way from southwest Kansas some went to DC

Can guarantee no computer sensor will stop any of these guys.
mythreesonsfarms that’s the beauty of these old girls. And if you did have a sensor go bad, you could bypass it fairly easy to keep it moving for the day.
Spirit of 76 Case 1570 is my favorite but since the 70's was I was in high school and working at the local dairy farm any and all of the "muscle tractors" is always nice to see. Nice job Jason

Growing up, we had a MF 1135 that dyno'd at 140hp pto. At first my dad had a MF 5x16" friction trip plow but with some of our property with many stones, we traded it for a White 6 x 16" spring auto-reset. I plowed long hours on that thing. No A/C, but a great heater (needed up here in WI)
I have a 4.16's bottom trip Massey Ferguson #82 plow I pull behind a 1990 Massey Ferguson 3070.
Case 1070, as a teen, spent hundreds of hours pulling a 6 bottom IH plow and Gehl chopper in northern Niagara county.
The best part is that so many of these 70's era tractors, you have on video, are still working. Saw the JI Case Stars and Stripes at FarmFest 1976 in Mankato MN. Impressive tractor but I was/still only interested in JD green. That 1155 Massey was doing more plowing with the onland wheel than the plow was!

That was cool. I was a teenager in the 70's living and working on farms in North Dakota. I spent time in many of the tractors in this video. I ran a 1070, 1170 and 1570 Case, Steiger Cougar, Versatile 875, John Deere 4020, 4330 and 4440. Plus a few Internationals that I do not remember. But I do remember running a Minneapolis Moline U Special. My favorite was the Case 1070 my father bought it used. It was the first tractor my father bought that had a cab. I still remember driving it home from auction sale over 40 years ago with my father following behind.
The 1570 was cool, but the Steiger Panther was hands-down the best. Timeless, muscular, and just badass 😄 We had one of those, too. Maybe I’m just trying to recapture my childhood 🙂

With the seat position, cab design and sloped hood that Case 1570 was way ahead of the competition. Too me Case , Massey Ferguson and Stieger were always the leaders in operator comfort

Great video! My wifes uncle farmed 2200acres in western Minnesota. He was always a IH man, but when Steiger came out he switched and never when away from Steiger. He had a Bearcat and Panther.😊
Very cool. Steiger was a great brand of the 70’s. IH owned 20% of Steiger. Several IH executives with on the board of Steiger Tractor Inc.

The farm I worked on,leaving school to learn the farming trade,had one of these 1570s.Blew the diff in it getting it un-bogged.They replaced it with a new Case 2390 in 1982 at a cost of $82,000 dollars Australian.I did 6000 hours on her,amazingly quiet cab,but a hard changing power shift that eventually failed at a cost of $20,000.The other tractor I did many hours on was the JD 4840,big duals,8speed powershift trans.Very powerful,quiet diff but a noisy SG 2 cab.I pulled 2, 24 row Inter seeders on a Gason twin hitch.
Love all these old tractors , hard to believe they are 40 years old , they were so big and modern in their prime !!! But then I thought I was too !!! Hahaha
We had Oliver and White back in the day. My favorite was an 1850 Oliver I personally rebuilt the motor on. For 30 plus year's I was the only one to drive it.
Loved the 2-135 White was the first tractor I drove at age 6 along with our 1755 Oliver cool videos
A 2255 Oliver would have to be my favorite
Larrick Allaman we hade one we sold it for a 2-155 WHITE it was powerfull and loud it hade a V8 so not the most reliable tractor in the 70s

My personal favourite is the 1150 Massey Ferguson the first row crop tractor in North America with a V8 engine.

Great video! I grew up with a MF 1155 and a case 1570, so seeing and hearing these old tractors really made my night! Later on we also had a MF 2805 and a MF 4880, so would love to see and hear some of those as well if you did a tractors from the 80’s video!
Very cool. A 2805 is huge on my top 10 wish list to film. I have filmed a 4880 but would like to get more field time with one. Watch for a Massey 5200 in a upcoming Great Decade Video
bigtractorpower Will do, thanks! My uncle actually owned a Massey Ferguson dealership in Boone, IA in the 70’s and early 80’s, so it really tugs at my heartstrings to see these old machines in action.
I love the 1570, lots of power from that era...we also have 2 1100, 2 1135 and 2 1150 and one 2590 we buy all new back on the days in different periods of time...the last we buy new is the 2590 great tractor as well.

I remember the 1570 Case was always a great looking tractor, the 70 series tractors had the power shift and telescoping tilt wheel that was really cool too. It was always a battle between the 1586 IH and the Case 1570 for power and both were good looking units
I know of some 6030s still in the field that would contest that.
A big farmer south and west of here chopped corn with a 1566 over the 6030
These tractors are more reliable than what's produced today.
So many cool tractors out there.

Hero that is a trick question you asked. Because I'm going to be honest with you I loved every one of them tractors. Those were the good old days. That's when they built good equipment back then. So yeah I love them all. 😁👍

Big Bud. Havre MT, my hometown!!!!! I operated an H-N 250, it pulled a 45 ft. Friggstad cultivator and free floating rod weeder.
I love them all. If I could, I would buy one...of each.
My dad had a Massey 1085 when I was little. Remember learning to disk with it. We still have my uncle's JD 4320, has about 12,000 hrs. on it. Use it to grind cattle feed, haul manure, plant and pick ear corn with along with other odd jobs.
My favorite is the case 1570, but all of the tractors look nice👍

We had several 4020s on our farm. They were good tractors for us and we ran them hard come disking time. We used them daily.

I miss our 986. Biggest tractor around our parts when I was a kid. I thought clamp on duals were the coolest thing since sliced bread. Shows how little I knew lol
These are all great tractors that can still earn there keep every day of the week at a fraction of the cost per acre of the new ones.

Still have a couple of 880 Massey Ferguson plows, trees and bushes growing around them, but still have them
Interesting to watch these beauties of the 70's. Brings back memories of our farm. We had a 74 Case 2470 at the time was a big tractor and one of few with air conditioned cab. Our other one was JD 4520, I think a 71 or 72. That was maybe my favourite tractor becuz the way it ran and handled. It was ahead of its time as all the John Deeres were since the 60's.
I could play this by my pillow and sleep soundly all night to the music of diesel and steel.
My heart belongs to CASE tractors.

We went Green about then fromMW turbo to 7520 rhen another from 402Os to 4320s for rowcrop all the way to 8870s and 4960s. Quite a progression and a lot of farm growth as a result of great service and product

Hi I operated a 1066 hydro for two years in new Zealand in 1974, 75 excellent big tractor in it's day also own an 1164 county do steep hill country on highland tussock country breaking it into pasture. Good old days would do it again tomorrow
When I was a child, I assembled a 1:24 scale model of the JD 4430 and I still love it a lot today. Unfortunately I got lost. Bye Hans.

I'm so grateful that I was part of farming when our big tractor was the Oliver super 88. We had smaller Olivers, a case, and my favorite, a 720 diesel with a wide seat. I could ride with Daddy!! It had a radio! We would listen to WLS from Chicago. Larry Lugack and Tommy Edward. Daddy had a Mason jar of lemonade under the seat and cookies mommy gave us. My fondest memories are riding with him pulling the disc. I got to throw the clutch!!!!

As always great to see older tractors out in the field working ground. Where'd you find the guys running the row cultivators? I've not seen that done in my area for years. I have to admit, that IH 1066 Black Stripe really caught my eye. LOL Stay safe.
Ford 7000 all day long. Very adaptable with good power for it's size.
Hey I have that same 3710 plow!!! That's one thing that was hard to see in these parts was the 1570 case
The John Deere 4x40 series. Might be influenced by the 4040s where the first real tractors we had. Back in the early 80s, in Norway, those things where HUGE.
Well my favorite tractor of the 70's is the Ford 8600 in open station. On this video i would like to say the 9700 but that Versatile looked boss crawling on that silage pile

I had a D21 series2 an a 7080 a.c. wish I still had them the old 21 would keep pretty close to the 7080
The D21 was built for 1 reason,
To just be mean!
Allis chalmers 7045 one tough tractor was used an abused but keeps going 7300 hrs before rebuild in 93 and is still going today. Only tractor from 70s still on the farm. 1066 is gone. Oliver 1955 gone. The old AC out lasted them both. Now it's new stuff like mx 180 an rt 140. But the allis still earns her keep.

Should have found ya a heritage edition 1955 to go with the other spirit tractors. That one you have in the video is a true survivor, motor had never been apart or had any updates to it. Still had 2 piece wrist pin bushings and 6 point rod bolts till he finally had to tear it down a couple years ago to fix an oil burning problem. Still wouldn’t mind bringing home that 135. You never find them that clean.
It would be awesome to film a Heritage 1955. If you know where I can film one let me know. I need more Olivers on BTP.

I have seen a Case which was much cooler. It was parked in a shed in Siberia last winter.
