    This took me a lot of back and forth, alot of re-writing, tweaking, etc etc, so I hope it helps some of you get a view into the world of Pimax. Don't forget certain tools such as OpenXR Toolkit can be used to boost performance! Hope you enjoy, and once again, thanks for watching 👍

    Heya! After selling my Pico 4 I managed to acquire an 8KX locally here with 1 year warranty. I have to say I am very impressed by the image quality for games that don't need Parrallel projection and runs great for a 60hz experience with my 3080. The image looks great and perhaps slightly better than the Pico Neo 3 Link with far wider FOV. For games that need PP have to tweak my settings to get a good image. To me this is fine as I only need a fine balance between image quality good FOV. I mostly run on normal FOV and pretty satisfied with it. I feel that the 8KX shines best with future GPUs that could potentially support higher VRAM, performance at a much lower cost that a 4090.
    I never thought I would spent a good chunk of money for a VR headset but here I am. My buying decision was also based on the fact that Pimax offers the trade in program for the 12K and even if I decide not to go for the 12k in the future, I still am able to crank up the resolution on Pimax Client or Steam VR when needed should I move towards a higher end GPU.
    I have to say that it does take quite a bit of tweaking, disconnects and adjusting in order to get to a level that most comfortable for the eyes, ears and feel for this headset. Certainly not for folks who are looking into a quick plug and play experience.
    I previously owned a 5k Super, it sucked for image quality but had really good FOV. I also have a Artisan that actually runs pretty good and has better image than that of the 5K super, go figure. The 8KX does triump it all with better colors and image quality.

    I have a 4080 with a 5800x3d and i have exactly the same experience. The 4080 can match the picture but is not always able to maintain a solid 90fps. However if you set VD to 72fps its rock solid and very useable framerate. Pico 4 is a nice headset but i really wish they would sort out their streaming software as it cant quite match VD

    I bought the 8KX recently and had lots of trouble-shooting with it, but now I'm quite happy and it's very sharp with the right settings. The sound is also quite decent and the problems you've mentioned with the pseudo 7.1 output cutting out sounds in pCars 2 and AMS2 can be prevented by mirroring your normal stereo output to the headphones in the SteamVR audio-settings. Than they produce not enough volume probably because the amplifier is too weak for the headphones. The solution is to run Equalizer APO with the Peace Interface. Install APO first and select the Pimax sound in the setup (both of them). Start Peace and just increase the gain to +20% and save the setting. Not above because it will cause distortions. You can set it up to start on Windows boot and don't bother with it again.
    Be sure that the IPD-Offset (horizontal) is setup correctly because the IPD-slider is not moving the displays, just the lenses. The very different experiences with the clarity are probably due to a not correct setting for your personal IPD. The IPD in the headset is usually lower than your measured IPD and I'm using 69 despite my IPD is over 71. My offset is 3.1 mm difference and on default it's horrible. My tip is going into SteamVR home, switch to PiTool, click on one of the handlebars and adjust the offset (one by one) with the arrow-keys while looking around in home to see what's sharper. If I set it up to -1.5/+1.6 or -2/-1.1 doesn't really matter, but the difference must be 3.1 mm in my case. Just with an average IPD you probably doesn't need that. And just recently I found out that running the render-quality on 1 is just not enough for a sharp image even if running increadibly high supersampling. On 1.25 or above (not recommended for anything but flight-sims) it really looks like 4k and not this 1080p-ish look I get on 1 even I run far less pixels according to fpsVR with mandatory lower supersampling, but it's a performance-hit despite and the 4080 is struggling. In MSFS the cockpit is now super sharp and I can read the smallest stuff with that. With 1.0 it's always bit blurry.

      @DayDreamerVR  Рік тому

      Thanks, my IPD is around 63mm, so the IPD offset probably isn't needed but I'll give it a try. I'll play about with the sound again, thanks for the tips 👍

      @@DayDreamerVR Probably it is, but even small numbers do make a subtle difference and you see when it's a match. I guess that's why people can get headache and eye-strain in VR if it's not set up correclty, not just with a Pimax. I had a Vive Cosmos once and even with the correct IPD it felt like I was squinting a bit and I guess an IPD-offset slider would've helped.

      I notice that the highest point of clarity on these lenses is if you look 20 degrees to the outside. Looking straight ahead at any area of the lens it is fuzzy, but if you look with the right eye around 20% right, then there is perfect clarity. I think its to do with the screen canting angle. Unfortunately looking straight ahead is fuzzy compared to that, and looking more inward get's fuzzier. I've tried looking through the lens at every spot and adjusted the IPD offset in various ways. However, overall it does give a great experience when set up right with that fov

    I’ve just pre ordered a crystal after watching mrtv 3080 with mfs2020 which turned out to have a average 45fps. But I’m starting to have doubts it’s a a lot of money but a huge upgrade from my quest 2 for mfs2020
    You say you have a Neo 3 link is that much of a upgrade from the quest as it has dp port as tbh the crystal is a bit over kill for my hobby and just want abit better clarity and colours but not the g2

    • @DayDreamerVR
      @DayDreamerVR  Рік тому +1

      The Neo 3 Link is an upgrade in picture clarity, but the comfort and facial interface is poor. You would likely need to get a 3D printed facial interface for it as no companies make/sell them. Once that is done though it is a good headset. I actually sold mine to help fund getting something else to help the next videos on this UA-cam channel, and had hoped the 8KX could have been a bit more of a long term purchase. I think the Crystal will be really good, and I think it could be a better starting point than the 8KX is now. Difficult decision though.

      @@DayDreamerVR thanks for your honesty would you go with a crystal with a 3080/5800x3d it does work ok in fs2020 but you have to use some 3rd party xr tool to bring down the super high res it actually might help you on your 8k

      @@paulmann8675 I think the Crystal will be much better to run than the 8KX. If I run the 8kx with a 3080 and the wide fov then the 3080 is spread too thin. As the Crystal is a normal sized fov, all the 3080 is used for the pixels right in your view so you get the better picture quality. I have been trying with openxr toolkit but keep getting crashes etc with the 8KX. For the last half an hour I have been considering sending back my 4090 which I just got, keep my 3080 which hasn't yet sold, and go for the Crystal 😂 VR really gets my mind going! 😀

    Is it useful for business work like programming, editing, word processing? Are edges of entire 3840x2180 matrix bleeding colors around each letter or vertical lines like in rainbow ? Pity you said no single word how it is connecting to PC and what the problem are with 3090Ti

    • @DayDreamerVR
      @DayDreamerVR  Місяць тому +1

      Hi, it connects to PC with a display port cable, which means you won't get compression artifacts etc, and it should work well with a 3090Ti. In relation to work use, it could be quite heavy and hot for this, but the image is good enough for most things. There are potentially better headsets coming out though in the next few Months. If you just want it for work use then the Immersed Visor could be worth looking at, it gets fully released in September. If you want it for gaming and work then there aren't many alternatives with such a high resolution. There are other aspects though which are useful for working in VR such as passthrough cameras, but these aren't good at all on the Pimax Crystal, so seeing your keyboard etc would be difficult. Some people do use the Quest 3 for working in VR and editing, and the clarity is okay, but I think we still need it to be slightly clearer, but it is probably still better than the Pimax Crystal for working in VR due to the overall features and software for working in VR. Hope that helps 👍

      @@DayDreamerVR Wow, many thanks for the response with a lot of useful information. Glasses like Immersed Visor definitely would be interesting to evaluate. Afraid, we probably still have to wait 8k glasses, as only they will be able to eliminate pixelation completely.

    • @likbezpapuasov4888
      @likbezpapuasov4888 Місяць тому

      @@DayDreamerVR So Immersed actually is not a single 4k screen per eye but 4 low res screens per eye like in multi-monitor PC setup? These small 1920x1080 screens (from Sony for example which are used currently in many such AR glasses) have terrible monstrous pixelation. And are power hungry like 100 wolves. I have not seen how pixelation looks on 4k screens like the ones in Pimax but suspect that even 4k is not enough to eliminate it and actually we will need to wait 8k for that.

    • @DayDreamerVR
      @DayDreamerVR  Місяць тому +1

      @@likbezpapuasov4888 the immersed visor will have 4k resolution per eye, but any monitor you put up, if it isn't covering the whole field of view then it technically won't be 4k. If you use a Quest 3 then any monitor in immersed can only ever be as clear as the resolution of the Quest 3 if that makes sense. However the Quest 3 for me is the starting point for where clarity is becoming usable for work. 4k per eye in immersed Visor will still not be 100% clear but it should be very usable, and I'd be happy to stick at 4k per eye. Hope that helps 👍

    I bought it in the same moment with same ideas and with a p3nl in home. Is a good hmd but was a disappointment, the configuration was a nightmare, is instable, the lens are horrible and the visual is not sharp. The only pro is the fov but is not enough. The p3nl has a terrible fov but was so clear after the 8kx! I decided to return back the pimax and buy a quest pro. I don't believe the crystal is ready. I want to wait.

      Totally understand. I don't think I will be keeping the 8KX. I keep trying it, hoping it was better than I remembered, but the picture isn't great, and like you say the FOV seems like the only thing going for it. I won't be getting the Crystal, unless there are no other options in the next couple of years and then I'll consider getting one once it's more developed. I'll stick with the PICO 4 for the moment

      The 8KX is very sharp, but you need to set it up correctly. Especially the IPD-Offset, which is tricky and the render quality must be on 1.25 or higher. If you set it on 1 and just blow up the pixels with supersampling, it doesn't start with a high enough resolution and the pixel ratio you see in fpsVR is basically BS. Than the display is far too bright on default washing out colors and contrasts.

    • @DayDreamerVR
      @DayDreamerVR  Рік тому

      @@Leynad778 Thanks, I have tried this and it can look sharp, it's just the games I play need Parallel Projections, which means it struggles to run at 1x, let alone 1.25x. I've tried various tools to boost up to 1.25 whilst upscaling/FFR and it's okay. I haven't tried the IPD offset so will look at that, thanks 👍

      @@DayDreamerVR I've only really tried the 1.25 in MSFS so far and huge difference, but running average 45 fps is fine for flight-sims like that. For racing titles the 1.0 doesn't look bad, it's just not what you would expect from two 4k displays, but reading the dashboard not really necessary either. The trick in MSFS is to lower the supersampling in SteamVR and running 1.25 with 2600p still looks better than 1.0 with 4000p, but also lower in fps. Maybe potato FOV with 75 Hz is a good compromise in sim-racing to run higher render-quality. I have to do some testing.
