    Gotta love the 80 Class……..an achronistic last fling for Comeng. Amazing that some still cling to life on the mainline in 2014!

    what does bringing up that big switch do?

      Sheldon, I presume that your are referring to the battery knife switch. When a diesel locomotive is stabled this switch is opened to prevent the batteries from being drained. You close the switch when you want to start the locomotive. Control current on a diesel locomotive is usually 75 volts, a tad more grunt than 12 volts on a car. Steve.
