I think when you show a couple of mistakes or problems along the way to making something so well made it makes you seem as if you are nearly as imperfect as those of us watching you. Talent is often the drive to keep working until you achieve the result that you want. Never ever give up.
It takes 'patience' to work through one's failures. It takes 'skill' to manipulate the medium into the desired shape. It takes 'artistry' to see the finished product before even starting. You sir have all three...amazing skills.
This is gorgeous work! Thanks for taking the time to share, and PLEASE keep making new stuff - so very cool to see someone making so many high quality tools themselves and repurposing things along the way that would otherwise be thrown out.
This is a wonderful example of your growing knowledge and skill, thank you for sharing. You have a gift and I am so gland about that. The new camera positions and shutter speeds are great too. Keep exploring the possibilities. Kindest regards and best wishes from Dublin, Ireland.
I love your vids man! You quickly went from some dude tinkering in his garage to a precision machinist nearly overnight. You seriously don’t understand how impressive a lot of the stuff you do is. I’ve been a machinist for a few years and I’m still in awe of a lot of your work! Please keep the toolmaking videos coming, not enough UA-cam machinists do fun to watch toolmaking. Videos like yours are what inspires people to join the trade and keeps manual machining alive! Next time try making a cylindrical grinding jig. You have all the tools necessary to make one and you certainly have the skill. And as of now only 1 big you tuber has made one, Stefan. He’s big league, I wanna see you there too!
As always, it is a treat to watch you do your thing, and it's amazing what you can do with what you have on hand. Keep putting up all your wonderful content for us to enjoy!!
You absolutely never cease to amaze us all with your skills Ca Lem. Yet another brilliant piece of work! Skilfully designed beautifully executed. Keep on the way you are going and you will be one of the worlds best hands on machinist. So glad I subscribed 18 months ago, I've enjoyed every last video you have uploaded.
Another great video! I’m not even a machinist but I love watching you work! You have a resourcefulness in your approach that is refreshing. It’s great to watch you repurpose old metal and refurbish old machines... Cheers 🍻 brother!
Utterly incredible ! Thankyou for sharing this beautiful build. How you turned the shaft so precisely without using a rest I cannot magine ! You are on your way towards robin and stefans level. Fantastic craftsmanship.
Off the charts my friend. It is so grate to see you doing such fine work. You have come so far since i first watched you work on your first lathe. With no tools to speak of. Now look at you go.. god bless and keep up the grate work
Nice work mate, especially the pad design on the underside of the base and making your own tap. As an old machinist I do enjoy seeing your good skills at work...and a Ronnie van Zant fan as well! :)
Ca Lem is very a very resourceful man. I admire his attention to detail. When I first came across a video of his, I was impressed so I was checking out his channel and all it said was Simple Man " be something you can love and understand" Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Well, one thing I’ve learned from this video! After careful consideration on the investment in machinery, tools, and supplies… let me get back to my search for a decent used surface gage!
A tip for those small easy to bend parts, take a piece of aluminum and drill and tap a hole for that thread, screw it in tight and it won’t bend, it can still shear so to mitigate that, bore a small shoulder that the knurled section fits tightly into, this will take all the tangential load off the threaded section and save you so much frustration
gday ca' lem i have just stumbled across your channel and i'am happy that i did, have watched you shop tour and your english is very understandable so don't worry. the quality and the pride of the work you do is unbelievable i would be very happy to buy some of your work instead of the junk from china for some one such as your self who i guess has had no former training is very talented and rear keep doing what you do and never ever stop learning hope you and your family are staying safe in this troubled world that we live in at the moment i have also subscribed to your channel cheers from australia mate
Amazing Work. Super. Как всегда всё на высшем уровне. Всё с точностью, на все 100%. Такие вещи и продавать можно и я думаю будет спрос. Красавчик. Удачи и здоровья тебе. С.у. Денис.
Don’t have the tool I need, but I do have a lathe, I can make one!! It’s gonna be amazing to see what you come up with over the course of the next 10 to 20 years! Your talent is equal to Tom Lipton, Robin Renzetti, and Stephon Gottswinter!
found you channel about a week ago and now every video is a must watch! Your work is incredible but must also mention the camera work, editing, selective focus, use of bokeh etc. is very cool as well. Great stuff and thanks for sharing with us.
As soon as I saw the vice chucks at the end, i thought this might be a side channel of his.....like an alter-ego or something, lol Either way, can't wait to watch through some of this guy's videos.
Freehand turning a ball end without a form tool, man I'd like to see a video on that all by itself, the hand- eye coordination must be perfectly tuned to produce such an accurate result as you did. ☺
Thinking of the way you clamped the piece on the rotary table to cut the large radius, you could make a round fixture plate with threaded holes for it that was taller than the jaws and have slots underneath and just hold it down with the Chuck.
4 роки тому+1
John Nason that’s dividing head. Not supposed to use as rotary table i think. I’ll get the rotary table soon.
A little tip.. when hardening long parts, don't drop them in sideways because they will tend to bend towards the side that hit the liquid first.. best to have a deeper tank and drop it end first
I watch your videos for 4 years now your work is awesome

In today's episode of "I don't have one so I'll make one"...
PLUS bonus build! Make a tap from a freakin' tap!

Pretty freaking awesome young man!!! Attention to detail, and such devotion to accuracy is amazing. Love it!
Thank you, Thank you, for showing the parts breaking from the chuck. This always happens to me. You made me feel much better.
Takes me back 45 years making a clock stand as part of my apprenticeship as a toolmaker.

Man that’s just awesome...you are an artist ! Thank you to share that with us....
Remember to wet sanding on the lathe. Wd40 or spirit, alcohol... So the abrasive grit wont fly all over machine surfaces and mechanisms
