This game was so ahead of it's time. Def Jam Fight for NY oozed style & uniqueness. Amazing character roster. Amazing soundtrack. Amazing fight mechanics & gameplay. Amazing story mode. No doubt one of the greatest fighting games of all time.
Not to mention it was expensive as fuck. All the characters are voiced by their real-life counterparts. I can’t imagine how much it cost to get that many hip hop stars to voice act in your game

And in the end we were getting the best looking games with a fun and enjoyable gameplay, now when there's no technical limitation, the majority of devs became lazy without any motivation, and all they make is mostly empty games without soul.
There is a saying we should live by. "If it ain't broke don't fix it." Def jam ffny was not broke so they should have never tried to fix it with def jam icon.
