@@matrancI just watched it. It's very good. He sings with far more emotion. I prefer this as I think the lyric has more than enough emotion, and doesn't need... more.
...what if I told you that he was indeed singing only to you, ckn711? That George here had a journal entry from November 18, 2019 saying, "Played American Tune to ckn711 today - not that they'll ever know it"?
hahahaha I was just watching your cover and saw another video called "Songs Inspired By Bach" and when the guy showed the comparison of Bach and American Tune he used the audio from this video ;P bit cheeky but still, again proves you have the best version available. Timestamp at 2:28 incase you're curious.
Stellar. Was looking for anything to match Josh Turner / Leah Taub’s version and was running low on hope. Absolutely nailed the spirit of the song, the effortless vibrato in your voice really makes it.
I am so glad I randomly found this channel - I have listened to all these videos several times and I love them all. Please keep posting more! Great stuff.
hi bill from Australia.Paul admitted he took a part of a Bach piece in this song I wonder if could name the piece.Still one of Simons great songs.Take care.
@@williamtennent6882 Bach has used the melody in quite a few pieces of his. For example the chorals: "Ich will hier bei dir stehen' and 'O haupt voll Blut und Wunden' from the Matthäus Passion (BWV 244, 17) It's actually not a melody that Bach wrote. It appeared already in the early 1600s (when Bach wasn't even born yet) in the hymn called Mein G'müt ist mir verwirret by the composer Hans Leo Hassler. Interesting, huh ;)
As a guitar player, I realize how difficult it is to play this song. While watching all of the changes/transitions, you prove to be most masterful at your craft. A lot of Paul Simon's songs are tough. "Learn how to fall" (another one of my favorites) is one I enjoy playing; even though it is far less difficult than this song. BRAVO young man! I thoroughly enjoyed this.
Sorry I missed your concert back home in Maine last month. Just finished listening to "Miracle and Wonder"(Gladwell) and thought of you guys. Keep making great music.
I've listened to this over and over on repeat and read the comments and replies and I think I now understand you a little. It's a perfect version, with the exception of not using that "money note" which is so unmistakable in the original. I think you didn't purposely. I think your intention is to be true to the song, and not use effects that are gorgeous, but more than the song needs or requires. Commenters also note how deeply emotional your singing is. But really, your singing is far less overtly emotional than almost any singer now. You let the lyric, which is itself profoundly emotional although reticent, speak for itself. You simply present it thoughtfully and without flash and fireworks. I believe you have enormous respect for song and the songs you present. More respect than you have interest in yourself. This is kinda overwhelming to see in any artist, and most certainly in these modern days. I also can't help see how few you perform for us here, and can't help thinking that perhaps you're not terribly interested in fame and fortune... and I could weep for that, as many of the commenters here would, for I live in Kodiak Alaska and would happily fly to the states just to see you in concert. God bless you and the beauty that you post here. I'll take what I can get and be grateful for it.
Magnificent (#3) Sir, your talent is superb. Your delivery (vocalizations) brought the following thought to my mind: Because of you and your renditions of the 3 Paul Simon songs you have covered, you have made me realize what a Genius song writer / composer Paul Simon is, possibly the GREATEST of the 20th century. And you are also a genius in the manner of your wonderful abilities as a musician. I hope that you also compose as I would love to hear your personal music! If not, be confidently assured that you have gained a new admirer of your performances - stunning renditions that inspire me, now in the Twilight of my life, to continue to write & play my '57 OO-18 MARTIN daily and, at times, recall my musical accomplishments of my younger days performing in the club's of New England, where the "crowds" would sing along and the women become hypnotized, thus enticed, by my Music, my props: a couple of guitars, a dual rack harmonica holder, and a voice all my own which brought smiles galore - a happy, fun filled evening where the "stress of city life" was quickly forgotten even if only for a few hours. >>"Music is the great communicator and always becomes a friendship maker. A universal language like that of Love of which we can never seem to get enough of"
You are such a tremendously underappreciated musician, George... just outstanding cover, more relevant today than the time it was released (1972?). I always thought this song should be our National Anthem...
One of my favorite S&G songs. George....you did them proud! This is perfection! Please grace us with more! This made my day!! You are simply divine!! :)
The fact that this video has just 5000 views proofs that UA-cams algorithm doesn't work.. .
Your cover is simply AMAZING
I agree, this guy should be everywhere... with ease.
It's 35000 views now. Hope it will be even more soon.
Great comment 😂
Yes, couldn’t agree more. George Clements is a serious talent. The ease with which he plays and sings says GENIUS to this listener!
simplicity is oft overlooked, but it always stands the test of time. Thanks, algorithm
That was the best rendition of this song I've ever heard. Paul Simon I'm sure would agree. Great job.
i invite you to watch the version of Darrel scott also...

C'est pour moi la meilleure reprise que j'ai entendu de ce classique folk ! Superbe interprétation ! Bravo l'artiste !
Yes voice is so honest and I feel like you’re singing only to me.

What an absolutely beautiful voice. Such clarity, pitch and timbre. Very impressed!
Wow. That's a tough one to play and and even harder one to sing. You made it look easy.
What a super performance. Fair play George.
I use play sing this on my guitar back in the 1980s. I miss the 1980s before the internet.
This is the second Simon&Garfunkel-cover of yours that I listened to. You’re an amazing singer/player.

Jesus Christ man, are you trying to make me cry? Mission accomplished! Amazing and incredible are the only words I have. Thank you .
I couldn't take my eyes off your left hand! So smooth, and so adept through all those chords and bass runs. That's hard-earned.
That was a perfectly gorgeous cover of a Paul Simon / Bach classic.

All the great composers used snatches of other tunes. We're so in love with "originality" that we forget it's only a tiny part of what we do and are.
Perfect cover
