Yes I love that we start off the story right away!! that's just something I appreciate in books in general - I don't need a fast pace, but I hate when it takes like 100+ pages to get to the premise of the book
I enjoyed our buddy read so much!

Aww great review ❤ I loved this book when I read it many years ago and I keep thinking about it nonstop ♡(ӦvӦ。) I definitely need to re-read it

I haven't read this book since it first came out. I might have to give it another go when I finally ship my books here. I've read so many b&b retellings since then, it would be nice to compare

It’s always interesting to revisit a book with more context! Hope you enjoy your reread!

I gave it 4 stars too, mainly because there were some scenes where Caitrin was kind of dumb that drove me nuts. I love anulan.
I feel like beauty and the beast retelling is a market gimmick bc of acotar BUT ewoyn Ivey has a retelling coming out in 2025 that I will totally read bc I just love her writing. I think you make a good point, it's almost like a euphemism for Stockholm syndrome themes

There are a LOT of beauty and the beast retellings. Although Heart's Blood came out before ACOTAR

Oooh, I just bought this audio during the latest Audible sale (from what I remember, all of Marillier's books were very cheap, so I bought a bunch, since I enjoyed Blackthorn & Grim so much 😊) This story caught my eye, but I somehow haven't noticed that it's a Beauty and the Beast retelling 😂
Would you say that the protagonist here is more like Blackthorn, that is, more mature, or more like the protagonist from Sevenwaters? 🤔
Also, would you say that it's a good spring read because of its atmosphere, like other Marillier books? 🤔

I’m not sure how I’d compare the protagonist to the others but I don’t think she’s really like Blackthorn and Grim
