To my shock and disappointment the new reformulated Cinnabar does not resemble the original Cinnabar in any way, shape or form. I found the old original Cinnabar on eBay and it is worth every penny. I cannot describe the pleasure my wife has in being able to smell and appreciate the Original Cinnabar. Estee Lauder should be ashamed to market this new stuff and call it Cinnabar.

Cinnabar is a great Lauder classic. It's a scent that smacks of my 70s childhood. My mother leaning in for an intoxicating goodnight kiss bedecked in fur, face powder, her jewels and First, Van Cleef Arpels. Her younger sister (signature L'Ecusson Jean d'Albret) experimented with the exotic orientals - Cinnabar, Opium. Aromatics Elixir not bad too. Those were heady days...
What a marvelous, glamorous, fabulous tale! I just love hearing such stories around perfume. That's the magic of it don't you think? I have to get my nose on First after reading about it in Scents & Subversion. Barbara Herman talks of the epic multi-generational story line wrapped up in that perfume. I must smell it!
WildDoveX Elixir Aromatics is possibly my favourite. It depends on my mood, but 6 times out of 10, I'm a Chypre kinda gal. The candles that Clinique (only at Christmas in UK) are magnificent. Lanier well worth checking out.

Thanks Lanier. I really liked the original formula of Lauder for Men back in the mid to late 80's. I've bought a couple of "vintage" LFM bottles off of eBay but have been disappointed in those. I would still love to get my hands on some LFM with the original scent I remember. Do you know of any other colognes that are similar to the original version? I don't know if I want to take a chance with eBay again.
Golly Kevin that is a big question. I am not sure how to answer it. Pehaps it is time, after the changes that have come over the fragrance that you loved in it's original form to let it go and look for something exciting and new to wear. I know you can never replace that original love but it is worth it to go exploring. I hope that helps.

I'll have to check out the current Cinnabar, though many say it has been reformulated beyond recognition.
You would be correct. The vintage original Cinnabar is my personal soul scent. There is no other smell that comes even close. The new reformulated Cinnabar only shares the name and nothing else.
LOVE THE MARTINI!!! Looks yummy.... make us one when we come visit? Oh I just spent over 20 minutes swatching makeup and skincare at the Estee Lauder counter near our house... so lovely but they didn't have as many fragrances on display as they do in the city. So bogan. Great review again :)

This is too perfect... I was at my local department store about 2 hours ago and smelled Lauder For Men for the first time. I loved it immediately! Then, my second thought... This smells like Blake Carrington!!! Haha... As soon as I got home I had to look and see if you had a review of it. You can imagine my surprise when I saw the Dynasty cast picture at the beginning of your video. Being a huge fan of the series, it's safe to say I'll be heading back to the department store for that classy bottle. Thanks Lanier!

why cinnabar today chance so much ? i dont like the new version of cinnabar.Estee (super) and cinnabar it was my favorite fragrance from estee lauder ....and even now.i love the way who take me back on sweet yesterday but i feel so sad for that but change of cinnabar....i wonder why?

Mostly due to the rules of the IFRA International Fragrance Association that have banned certain notes as allergens. So the fragrance houses have to come up with new ways to make and old fragrance. Also each batch may be affected in some ways by the harvest that year of raw material. This can alter to a degree the scent.

I recently got some Aromatics Elixir after a many years' hiatus. Beautiful rose patchouli oakmossy chypre with a medicinal note.
