Watch clips from the documentary called Tantura. It’s recently made, but they interviewed Israeli soldiers who participated in the 1948 massacres. These men are now in their 80s and smiling as they recall what they did.
They must have thought the film was intended for domestic audiences, who approve and endorse this kind of sadism. And then the Israelis pretend the reason they’re despised over there is because of the Palestinian educational system, the religion, etc. Anything but a justified rage against their brutality and land theft.

If you think what was done to the prisoners at this camp is acceptable, let’s turn it around for a moment. What’s acceptable for others to do to your captured soldiers? What’s acceptable to do to your citizens thrown into a prison camp on _suspicion_ that they _might_ be involved with a terrorist organization? Not proven. Not suspected of a specific incident. Suspected of membership or alignment to a group. What’s acceptable to do to your citizens under those circumstances? What’s acceptable to do to your parents? Your siblings? Your children? Your spouse?
If you condone this treatment of the prisoners in that camp, you condone that treatment for your own citizens or family when they’re similarly imprisoned. Not for a specific incident. But on suspicion, before any evidence or proof, that they _might_ be connected to a group.
This happens after othering has already occurred, hitler was an excellent case study for many opportunist fascists of the future because he first othered, then dehumanized and humiliated. Racism, xenophobia, even misandry and misogyny do this othering to justify bad behavior and think it won't happen to us, we're God's chosen religion or ppl or gender or country, we're smart, we have better DNA, we're more affluent or powerful until it happens and then it's the same dystopian reality but with a different group.

So glad you are covering this. Israel has a 'rape' problem, not just in connection with Palestinian prisoners. Apparently, there are 'rape registers' recording the rape of female Israeli soldiers by male Israeli soldiers. In July 2019, a British teenager was gang-raped by Israeli teenagers and men in Cyprus. They never faced justice. She was convicted of lying about the rape but months later - after the Israelis were back in Israel - her conviction was overturned and recorded as a miscarriage of justice. One of the teenagers involved in this rape was the son of a prominent Israeli politician. There was another case involving the gang-rape of a different British teenager by Israeli men in Cyprus earlier this year. I don't know what the outcome was.

Nakba means "the catastrophe." It was originallybused to describe the forced displacement of 700,000 Palestinians in 1948 by the Israeli terroriats when they formed the state of Israel by attempting to remove all Palestinians off the land illegally given to Israeli's. Israel has long denied that the Nakba happened. However, since Oct 7th, not only have they admitted it, they proclaimed that their response would be a second Nakba. When that elected officialbis saying "Nakba terrorists" he is admitting that what they are doing is a Nakba.

When you dehumanise others, you always end up losing your own humanity. There is an equal and opposite reaction to the way a society allows itself to behave, that corrupts the society itself in turn. It's one of the arguments made about the death penalty, not that it's wrong or inefficient or cannot be undone, which are all important arguments, but that it feeds into a psychology of vengefulness.
When you can justify any evil against someone else, it's because you've become evil. That's the tragic reality of dehumanisation. And it's also why you can never dehumanise those who dehumanise others, rather, normatively you should not.
This was the problem with viewing 1930s/40s Germany that way we did, we externalised the concept of the horror, we made it something inhuman, when it was always human. If we fail to see the danger in ourselves it will always find ways to remind us.
There is no special evil to this, there's never anything special about it. It's very normal human behaviour when tribalism and dehumanisation are allowed to fester. We simply cannot be blind to it, or tolerate it.
