  • Alma (Vicky Krieps) tells Reynolds (Daniel Day-Lewis) how she feels about their life together after Reynolds criticizes her cooking.
    Film Synopsis:
    Set in the glamour of the 1950's post-war London, renowned dressmaker Reynolds Woodcock (Daniel Day-Lewis) and his sister Cyril (Lesley Manville) are at the center of the British fashion, dressing royalty, movie stars, heiresses, socialites, debutants and dames with the distinct style of The House of Woodcock. Women come and go through Woodcock's life until he comes across a young, strong-willed woman, Alma (Vicky Krieps), who soon becomes a fixture in his life as his muse and lover. Once controlled and planned, he finds his carefully tailored life disrupted by the scariest curse of all…love.

      It's like he took his bath, got in his pajamas and was like, "Oh f**k I gotta do that dinner she made..." and just threw that jacket on half-assedly.

      Just one of those films that can't quite get enough inertia to get people to watch in theaters... but as you watch a few clips here and there, and see the genius behind the writing and acting, makes you truly appreciate wanting to see the movie as a whole years after.

    The way he make the cross with his asparagus, is the clear indication of what is really coming.

    A "date" implies an arrangement between people. Alma springs a surprise dinner on to Reynolds and he's not happy to have his inner clockwork disrupted. He's a man of ingrained habit as a means of self protection. I adore this film!

    Classic, horrible Narcissism. Be only as I like you to be, stay in your place, your little box, don't presume to be an individual, you only get to be with me in the way I will allow you to be, I will not accommodate you in the way you need unless it is something I feel like doing, accept all this and like it, or there will be trouble - and I will make it look to everyone that you are the problem: demanding, too emotional, mentally unbalanced, disrespectful of my way of working, on and on and on. They came to a sort of truce in the movie - but this is a movie, in real life men like this are to be avoided, escaped from, hopefully before too much damage is done to the woman, her mental health, years wasted...her belief in love and the goodness of people, gone.

      But why is Alma with such a man to begin with

    • @usualsuspects42
      @usualsuspects42 4 місяці тому +3

      @@jossy__fresh Have you seen the film? He was, as are all Narcissists in the beginning, charming, attractive - their attention to you pulls you in, in a way that is so beguiling that you think you have found something, someone very special - and you can't imagine that they will turn out to be as they do turn out to be. When it starts to happen it is shocking and confusing in the extreme and causes you to apologize because you can't get a grip on why things that were once nice and promising now seem to be going so wrong, so you apologize and you try to figure out how to be to make it be ok for them - but you never can, it's as if the laws of physics change in their orbit. Down is up and up is down. Oh, it is a particular slice of hell on earth and you must escape - when it is the last thing you really want to do - or be ground down into dust where you have lost all you once were and can no longer recognize yourself and you may never recover. It is no joke.

    Its not narsassism ,its lots of tnings but not that.
    He hates , noise at certain times , food exact etc
    He has extreme sensitivity issues and exactness.
    She brings him low so that he can see tne beauty of intimacy tnat he has never experienced
    Why are we not allowed these characteristics,do we have to be perfect ?

    It's like he's a little boy. She was fascinated from the outside by his talent, the elegance of his world - but that world was a horror show when you look deeper.
    If you don't play your part precisely in the manner he wants, he crumbles like a toddler. What an awful man. What I don't understand is how she didn't see it sooner. Maybe she kept giving him the benefit of the doubt, still hanging on to the idea of who he was, rather than who he really was.

    Horrible , no me gustó nada, el tema , la película está súper bien realizada, y las actuaciones, son verdaderamente , exquisita , pero personas como el existen en la realidad, y suelen causar muchísimo daño , solo una mujer extremadamente fuerte, puede luchar con un hombre así y librarse de este mal , que Dios nos libre , de alguien así ❤❤❤

    The classic narcissist/gas lighter - takes a really strong woman to wrangle in such a man. Wrestle into submission for the betterment of the inflated egoist.

    • @usualsuspects42
      @usualsuspects42 4 місяці тому

      @tvu86 Please understand that a strong woman, no woman can wrestle such a personality into submission. It happens in this film but it does not happen in real life. To think it might if you are strong enough, to keep trying from every possible angle for months and even years - will turn a strong woman into a shadow of what she once was. In this regard this is actually a dangerous film, in that it could serve to give women, people, hope that a Narcissist can change or some workable deal can be struck. It can't. They don't change. You have no power to make them see or feel or alter their worldview. They are not interested in or capable of caring about another. They are uniquely dangerous personalities and the only thing to do is to get out the moment you start experiencing the confusion. Don't tell them what you believe them to be, don't try to get them to admit or understand how you feel, don't tell them you see what it is they are doing - smile and slip away, far away, and stay away, don't fall for it when they try to rope you back in. They can and will ruin your life.

    Reynolds? I insinctivly thougth of Gustav Mahler, but Alma was a little bit too shy for my taste. Trice as blate as Zahra Leander was my expectation. Method acting isn´t everyones buisines, I guess
