Ray it's super cool that you're helping Troy fix up his Jeep and being his mentor. Not enough men take time to help and encourage the young men in this nation. Good on you Bro.
And everyone wants experience. Not like the old day's with on the job training.
Shouldn't use the blow gun. You accidentally made a clean spot😂
@August Inter-nation (Augy) Yes I have a Son and two nephews who turned out pretty darn good, two daughters as well 😁 But if I met some young man in need of guidance I would be more than will to mentor him as my children and nephews are all grown. I was a mason for many years then when my body said no more heavy lifting I built my own landscaping company from the ground up.👍🏻
@@noworriesmate5903 Yes I do agree that this younger generation wants to start at the top but that's where a mentor steps in and says "it doesn't work that way Friend".👍🏻👋🏻
Absolutely 100% agree.
I love how the "it's a Jeep thing" phrase works in so many places.
Murphy states that your fuel pump quits immediately after filling up😂
1:32 The garden hose mod is the icing on the cake with this Jeep. Must be a Jeep thing.
Jeep, more like heep!
Those PCV elbows are not easy to find if they break ...
Ray, I'm just wondering something: When are you gonna learn that Jeep stands for "Just Empty Every Pocket"?
Because yes, it usually is a Jeep thing -- which ends up emptying your bank account trying to fix it. 😅😂
man, that was a Laurel and Hardy moment with the gas spillage. Wow, That reminded me of the stupid problems I and my relatives would get into .
oooo, can't wait to see how that engine restoration treatment works. Great video, Ray and Troy!
I had a new XJ on 1987 when I was in Salt Lake City. It had the inline 6. It was an excellent vehicle for the mountains and did a great job getting me up the ski hill even with the stock street tires.
"There's never too much [redacted] showing." 😂😂😂
Valve cover on a 4.0 is one of those “when” not “if” things - they all leak after a while. Easy easy to do, too except for the bolts on the far back end.
My neigbour had two 69 Coronet convertibles. His favorite, the yellow one, was consumed by fire caused by a leaking tank. The whole garage was lost as well. Gasoline is scary stuff.
_"Gasoline is scary stuff."_ It really is, and vaporising a whole bunch of it with the airline is not clever.
@@ferrumignis Just letting a pool of fuel gas out is even less clever... Ray accelerated the process which I understand. But the whole way they went about wasn't smart in the first place. Most of the leakage could've easily been prevented.
When I got my ‘69 Charger, it developed a fuel leak under the passenger rocker within a month of owning it. I removed the whole fuel line and was shocked to see about 6 patches. They would develop a leak, cut a tiny piece out, then clamp a rubber fuel line over the cut to rejoin.
Since then I marvel at the BS gear heads have done to the muscle cars I buy. I see cut corners on fuel lines, brake lines, exhaust and wiring. But spare no expense on putting gaudy crap all over the engine.
When I change my oil in my 94 Grand Cherokee I add one of the STP treatments with extra zinc. I dunno how much it helps but I'm at 330k miles so it cant be hurting. Nice to see videos featuring these old 4.0s.
I liked your comments about ordering from vendors and standards because I generally feel the same way. I don't think your standards are too high, it's everyone else's standards are too low these days. Keep up the great videos.
Ray, FYI, an electric fuel pump can be bench tested by submerging it in a bucket of water and connecting 12 volts to it. You get to watch it squirt water in the bucket, or maybe it won't. Or maybe it'll run really slow. I did it once and it started running fast, but then gradually slowed down until it stopped.
You have by far the best attitude of any mechanic I have ever watched. My first car was a 1968 MGBGT. I heard my dad say words that I had never heard him say before while working on that car.
Ray, Just a little tip: I like to use a nut driver or a socket for those screw-type hose clamps. It avoids all of that slipping off the screw.
Love your plans! Can't wait to see whats in store for us with this jeep! Thank you Troy for giving us another jeep project! Great job both of you! Ray so glad you brought Troy on!
Should turn into a JEEP specialist.
I am guessing Troy mechanic unit is wife unit's brother. They look like siblings! 😆
_"Who decided that fuel pumps only fail on a full tank?"_
That would be our best friend... *_Murphy._*
"Wake me up before you go-go!" That gasoline incident reminded me of Zoolander 😆
I was thinking the exact same thing.
Hey Ray and Troy, looking forward to the upcoming engine flush video. Cheers!
You and Troy working together is a riot. Had me laughing.
Ahh brings back the memories of junior shop class where a classmate of mine was horsing around with compressed air and blew out my eardrum. Ouch!
You can get a 55Gal fuel drum and use it for fuel recovery. Fit it with a filler hose pump and you can recover most gas in tanks and put it back when finished. At the cost of fuel now days it's a sin to throw away good fuel. Good Stuff, thanks.
Love Your videos Ray, so glad to see your shop growing the way it is!!!!!
Remember when a typical fuel pump was on the side of the Block, with just two bolts and
One hose in, one hose out?
So easy to change, even I could do it!
I've learned so much about maintenance and how things work in a car.
Blowing gas with hi pressure is a bad idea,.. if there were rust or some other ferrous material in the area while geta launched, it can spark and ignite.
Hope it has oil pressure after BG scrub procedure. Cleaning the Scum layer off the bearings can cause excessive 'clearance' !
Halfway through this and was too scared to light a cig ... and Im in London !!!
25psi more then it had at 10psi to start nice good video Guys @Rainman Ray's Repairs
But if you blew up you could always refer back to the story about when you blowed up, set the garage on fire and tried to drop and roll in a puddle of spilled gasoline. Fun times..
Thank you Ray, you are awesome showing us the challenges and solutions doing mechanicalisms. If only my mechanic was as cheerful and entertaining as you.
Hey Ray, I'm glad to see Troy is an official employee with shop shirt and all. Also, I had to smile when you brought out the "assault" air gun for "a little" gas on the floor. When in junior high, I worked at my Uncle's "service" station ("The Man who wears the star") for a week one summer in the mid 1960s. My first job, the first day was taking gas and an asphalt broom to scrub the "pit bay" floor. Yes, his station had 3 "pit" service bays. Thanks for the memory😉 Who doesn't like to se a little nipple🤣🤣🤣🤣 Love it!👍👍
Good to see Troy getting over his camera shyness. You two are working hard, having fun, and 🦵 n' Jeep tail!
Ot took the wife unit time, too. Now, look at her with her own channel. 👍
Now we just have to convince Troy to answer to the shop name of "Peter" 😉😉
@@tracker001 NO IT'S MINI RAY.
But whatsoever the leg mean?
@@jacobm9263he meant chasing tail which is weird cause Ray ain't like that, he got a wife and kids, don't seem like a DL dude to me...
I had to laugh at you two struggling with that gas line, brought to mind a certain movie with Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels! But on a serious note, by vaporizing the spilled gas with high pressure air inside of a shop, you're creating a thermobaric bomb, any point of ignition would be devastating, very dangerous! Use an absorbent material, take it outside and allow it to air evaporate. Stay safe!!.
Yeah I was cringing at the way he was handling the fuel spills, much more dangerous than he probably thinks it is.
Depends on airflow, if the shop has excellent airflow it’s only dangerous for a few minutes, then it’s whoever’s standing near the exhaust fans problem. However it’s not really worth the risk like you said
Ouch and you guys have gas on yourselves and 5 gallons at your feet, Bro that flashes and you' in trouble!!.. If OSHA or L&I see that video, you're going to get a visit.
Invisible petrol fumes travel pretty quick, nasty
Give Ray some credit. He knows what he’s doing.😊
This is the exact problem I'm having with one of my XJs. Thanks for this. Saved me a lot of time.
Had a 91 Jeep that I drove over 300,000 miles and sold it and it was still in great shape 😊
That full BG system will be a great video. There aren't many videos on that. Also the induction service and might as well do the tranny too!
I have a theory on why most of the time the tank is full when there is a problem with fuel delivery... people start to think about it and diagnose the problem, or somebody they know gives them the tip etc.... so maybe they think the fuel meter is broken and so they fill up trying to see if it remedies the problem of running poor because they think it's running on vapors.
I think that my dad thought that our suburban was running on fumes when the fuel pump went out on it.
@Richard Cranium No... running on empty will.
The young man is Blest to learn from someone like yourself who does old school honest quality work and doesn't need to try and prove their manhood by cussing every 3rd word and treats people with respect. God Bless you
I look forward to the next installment on Troy's jeep
Don't really care for the horseplay with the blow gun. Too easy to get something in the eye in addition to the comments about using air to evaporate the gasoline.
I honestly dont think that you ever fail to make me laugh and smile, all whilst learning new things. Even though I dont have a license or a car its still very handy to know things, and being the stubborn woman I am once I do pass my test n get a car I can do some things myself that I couldnt before (minor things obv') but knowledge is still power these days lol, thanks for the laughs you two
I like the way you will work on ANYTHING, no matter what a CHEAP JEEP it is!
You call it a heep, I call mine a eep because my J fell off on my 88 xj😂 the joy of jeep things
Got the derogatory nickname for when Troy does not comply with shirt protocol. “URCHIN’ 😂
Well this was a nice change of seeing Ray's bloopers in action, lmao 😂.I always enjoy watching your videos.hands down your the best buddy.youll have a great weekend.
Great vid! Sorry all the gas spilled out. Stay safe.
I love the banter between you and Troy he seems like a great kid eager to learn and who better to teach him, you guys have a great trio with wife unit as well.
40-years of turning wrenches, I never had a fuel pump failure on a vehicle without at least 3/4 tank of fuel.
You make the videos so much fun to watch, Ray, so I always STOMP ON THE LIKE BUTTON
I was hoping for project jeep but this will do :) keep it up man , Also liked the video like always
Man he's got a lot to learn. You have more patience than I would.
It's pretty funny teasing Troy about his shirt... but... both wearing "Ray's Auto Clinic" shirts gives the impression of a "Team".... I like that Mr. Rainman. 👍
"Why is it that every time a fuel pump fails the tank is full? Who decides these things?" That's just Mr. Murphy letting you know that he hasn't forgotten you.🤬
That was a VERY good video , Ray and sidekick !
I can see that you are enjoying teaching, well done. You videos just keep getting better. Thank you.
Watching this video was like watching the the three stooges. I was literally yelling at my TV like you were able to hear me. It was a great time thanks 👍😂😂😂🎉
Loving all the Jeep content.
Love your videos!!!
Troy, The Padawan of Jedi Master Rainman, Much to learn he has!
I think it's just basic UA-cam etiquette to 'like' a video of you watched it and enjoyed it! So many more views than likes, come on people! Show Ray some love. 💙
Ever-more. .. I'm very impressed with your shop! You've got a good thing going.
BTW... i'm also thinkful that the skreeching auto buffing machine noise is gone
Yeah but marble cutting business is a health hazard the finite particules are like asbestosis was like & young people in that industry a dying from it .If it were me I would not have my family anywhere near that place.(there is no cure the same as the asbestos situation )
@@LesReeves Ray will probably blow the place up before then just by the way he handles flammables
Stupid answer of the day : A fuel pump would never be the obvious failure if the gas tank was Empty 🤦🙄
Thanks for sharing your time another great video
You 2 are a right comedy duo , it's even funnier now especially with the fuel filter Troy " is that to much nipple showing" Ray " you can never have too much nipple showing" 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I almost couldn't watch this. Your lack of planning might one day catch up with you. There was a bit more than a few tablespoons of gas on the floor, and using 'a rubber hammer' is only half the 'steel on steel' part of the spark equation --- some might say a brass knock-off rod would have been a better idea. And I get it about those guys not calling you when your order was cancelled and leaving you hung out to dry, but then saying 'maybe my standards are too high' left me chuckling ---- you are currently trying to bring junk back from the grave --- well, I take it back, a person with low standards would only work on puff-ball cars, you stretch all the time.... and I HAVE learned a lot from you.
I have to tell you Ray, the interaction between you and Troy on this job, one of the funniest videos I've watched from you. Thank you for the laughs.
Great info. Keep up great work.
Blow gunning gasoline makes a very explosive situation. Would be better to flush it outside with water. I mean really explosive. Propane needs a more exact mixture than gasoline. Gas is flammable from way down low to way up high concentration.
I hope he reads all the comments pointing this out. That was not a clever plan to clean up the gas.
Despite him not blowing up the shop with that compressor kicking on and off and providing an ignition source, maybe he will see how filthy his shop floor is.
TECHNICALLY, gasoline is an “explosive” while “gunpowder” is a propellant (unless it’s you’re talking about black-powder which IS an explosive), go figure.
another outstanding video Ray love the content but the most important thing is to have yourself a great day Ray amazing
Ray, just to let you know, I always hit the like button as soon as I open your video!
Additionally, I have a 99 XJ with 230+k and am very interested in seeing how the BG treatment works on T-Roy's 4.0. More information on how we can purchase the same cannon ammo and fire it ourselves is much appreciated 👊
Keep up the great work! Videos keep getting better every time!
I'm glad it was Troy Jeep and not a customer waiting on a vehicle because parts weren't provided in a timely manner have a great weekend 🎉
You wouldn’t be laughing about the fuel waste here in the UK they take the P over here
Great vid hope Troy sticks it out for the long run
Things can get depressing
😂😂😂
Fun video and an insightful remedy to the pump pressure issues, but you nearly turned your shop into a bomb by air-gunning that gas! Something lucky was keeping you safe: maybe not using power tools at the time .... or Troy's oily white shirt :-)
I was kind of thinking that too. I am sure the gas dissipates much faster by using the blow gun. Technically, most of what comes out of a blow gun is nitrogen, but by increasing the surface area the, you are increasing the vapors that will be in the shop.
Yeah, vaporized gasoline is more dangerous than in its liquid state.
Ray have you invested in fire extinguishers for the shop❓
Its like Ray has a friend to help with the shenanigans. Loving the addition of Troy
That shameless promotion! I love it😂.
Enjoyed watching this video. Troy learning the ropes from the best😊. Stay safe guys.
Be careful. You’re setting yourself up for some OSHA / workers comp headaches down the road
He absolutely is. Blasting people with an airgun is an absolute no, and vaporising all that spilled fuel was plain stupid.
@@ferrumignis Florida EPA will visit him soon.
@@forgetfulme1719 Environmental issues were at the back of my mind tbh, the chance of a spark causing an explosion was my primary concern. Having been badly burnt in an accident with fuel I don't underestimate the danger these days.
Shooting compressed air can blind Troy forever.
Another successful repair!
I was in new York last week had a rental jeep and kept seeing jeeps everywhere 😯
I was happy to see old trucks tho so very cool!
You both work well together. Will be an interesting video to see the oil cleaning results.
Yeah, Dumb and Dumber
Hi Ray, love ur videos but I do have one thing to say why wouldn’t you originally use the new supplied connector. Wouldn’t re-using the existing connector be a potential thing to go wrong?
Not trying to criticise as I’m definitely no mechanic, and I do love your videos, just want to know your thoughts.
Good to see the AR Flufteen back in action
Kudos to you Ray, a valuable lesson for Troy and your viewers. Good to see you both getting on so well. Interested in the treatment you plan to use as the product we have here was developed originally for trucks and diesel powered equipment in the mines. Only need one application and it was staggering how it cleaned the engine completely.
Rainman tries to sneak a mid day video in....but to no avail....
That is telling him Ray you spend good hard earned money on your uniforms and he is walking around looking homeless
Dong Dong, just spray Troy down with some brake clean, he will be shiny then! 🤣🤣🤣
One of these videos, when you're hammering off the retaining ring on a fuel tank, you need to insert a nuke explosion clip after one of the hits 🤣
Thanks Ray for another GREAT video.
You two getting covered in fuel and spilling it on the shop floor, all while doing your best not to, was kind of funny! 😃
If you don’t like Ray’s videos what are you here? Seriously go somewhere else. Have a great weekend Ray.
Before and after the 3 gal cleaner would be a Great video! Can't wait.
My experience has been that the pump rarely fails when the tank is full. It has usually failed because people drive their vehicles with less than enough fuel to cool the pump. Then, when the pump fails, they think they are out of fuel and put fuel in the tank. It doesn't start, so they actually, for once, fill the tank, to ensure that there is adequate fuel in tank. When it doesn't start, they call AAA, and then, us!
Disappointing video- should read, how NOT to disassemble fuel pump assembly from the fuel cell; improperly prepared to drain gas and allowing it to spill all over...great technique and surely a positive training module (sarcasm emphasized). What would have been funny to see, is a potential customer needing repair service on their auto- who happens to be an OSHA inspector! Cha-ching $$- ouch Bam-Bam, that fine made me sore in the boom-boom. Now that would have been priceless.
Um, by blow-gunning liquid gas, aren't you putting a ton of fuel vapor in the air, all at once? Given that it's the vapor that goes boom, not the liquid, seems counter-productive.
Granted, plenty of ventilation in that garage, but I've watched enough USCSB videos to respect flammable vapors.
What a team you two has become, splendid love it 🙂
