I just bought a Razer Blade 14" 256gb SSD and a 2013 Deathadder mouse to go with it, I'm really excited and now I'm watching these videos to pass the time between now and 2-4 days from now.
the atrox looks really good. i love the fact that it comes with a bat-top inside. i think the only thing that's missing is a handle to carry it around.
It's upscaled 720p, in that the HUD is adjusted for a better fit on larger screens, but the graphics are unaltered. There are in fact a very small amount of games that are >720p on consoles.
Large pcs also include more room for usb ports (this has 3 mine has 8), support for visual connections other than hdmi, optical drives, liquid cooling/larger fans (this laptop will no doubt get incredibly hot it has virtually the same design as a macbook pro) and extra hdd/ssd slots
I had a macbook pro and it is a pretty capable machine for gaming, the razer blade however is on another level when it comes to gaming performance (3d rendering performance in general)
I watched this for the joystick, screw laptops. I own lots of joysticks but this one looks like it has everything you need except the classic American style arcade buttons which I prefer over Sanwa but I can't complain. Glad to see Razer is stepping up there products.
I absolutely considered a MBP for gaming. I am not a hardcore gaming enthusiast either. I bought the rMBP because it was the best blend of functionality and gaming performance. It is very much a gaming laptop and has performed greater than I had imagined. You seem to believe a computer not built from Alienware, ROG, or Razer to be inadequate for gaming but I believe otherwise. Now you see a year latter Razer is producing the exact same product a year after Apple.
The corner numbs would keep the fans from being completely covered up if its put on a flat surface. If you've ever used a macbook pro it'll get almost as hot as that but not quite. As long as it keeps all the heat at the bar below the screen it'll been fine. The MBP almost does this but a lil heat does seep down to the WASD keys but the MBP doesn't have vents at the bottom
the fightstick looks really good been meaning to switch the madcatz i got in 09 as it's really worn out now, this razer stick will definitely be on my list when the time comes
The $1800 price is not that bad given the build quality of this notebook. There are only a few laptops on the current market that have an i7-3600+ and a GTX 660M+ at a cheaper price, and most are from MSI, and don't have the SSD. Everything with GTX 700 series chips and 4th generation intel chips will be very close to this price.
It's just a reinforced hole to fit a kensington security lock. You'll see them used mainly in shops on displayed electronics to stop anyone taking them etc.
kinda assume most people have a monitor/tv with an hdmi port but add another $100-$200 depending on what size you perfer, my asus 23" was 140 on amazon. Im in no way hating on the razer blade if thats what your thinking, I do like it. Someone was wondering why pcs where so much larger than laptops like this and I just explained to him why
for the price you are paying for that laptop and you only get a 14" TN screen, you might as well get a custom laptop built to your preferences o.o, and the reason razor's lighting is so vibrant is because they use green which is one of the brightest colors to the human eye.
Please read the rest of my comments and really take a good look around at more affordable parts, the prices you listed are on the high end for those parts. I excluded the os in my price estimate cuz I dont know what os you're gonna use and the monitor cuz I assumed most people have a monitor or a tv with an hdmi port with those two included it would bring the price to a litttle over $800. My build also included a 1tb harddrive instead of an ssd
People who complain about the price obviously do not understand the amount of engineering required to design a device so slim but so powerful. If I were to get a gaming laptop, I would consider this over an MSI due to its size.
what I think you mean is that the razer blade would run games better when plugged in than when on battery. I agree but people who buy a blade may not play as many games when they are on battery then play more games when they are back home or near a power outlet.
You dont need a haswell chip to match the PERFORMANCE which is what I am talking about when I said a comparable desktop. When looking for a processor with comparable PERFORMANCE to the processor in this laptop you can just go with a much cheaper 3rd generation i5 chip and since I've been bombarded with replies I have gone to newegg and amazon and built 3 desktops which based on benchmarks match this laptop for $700 with an os included
pretty sure you can still play games without being plugged in as I've seen it done before. Also 30fps in bf3 ultra is expected for a laptop as the gpus are designed for mobile and are less powerful. It's obvious you won't get the same level of performance in a laptop.
it can actually support it as the macbook uses an nvidia gt650m instead of intel hd graphics but it won't be able to run many games well in that resolution.
that is exactly what i meant, the razer edge and macbook look nothing alike except for they are grey. that is basically what you are saying. You are saying that one laptop looks like another because they have the same shape when it was whats in the inside that matters.
yeah but for $2000 wish they would have put in an IPS. not only would it be a gaming ultrabook, but an overall best pc imo. $2000 is macbook pro retina territory which is basically a gaming ultrabook. and yes i know it does not have a gtx 765M, but i think the video card will be updated with the haswell update
One thing that could hurt intel bad with all the focus on powerconsumption is IF we see a break through in batteries, who's gonna care if batteries get 3-4 times better? 9-12 hours vs 14-16 hours, of course more is better but still, does it really matter at that point.
P35K comes with atleast a 256gb mSata SSD. (usually from LiteON / Crucial - these are not shoddy SSDS) Furthermore, when you can have up to 4 SSDs I don't think capacity is an issue at all.
to clarify, there is a hotswappable ODD Bay that hypothetically holds 1 SSD, an additional HDD bay, and 2 msata ports... that's 4 SSDs, even though 2 HDD and 2 SSD would be better.
Because it requires a lot more gpu power to render the image, but on 14" display you gonna get very little difference. Instead of 1080p, as Linus said it would be better if they changed the panel with IPS.
Yeah, good point but there are more and more new games that will require more RAM than that (Not to mention if you are a heavy video or photo editor). It would be nice to see at least an option for 16 Gigs of RAM. There probably will be very soon.
MSI is double the power graphically at the same price point. So you can sacrifice size for power or just have a little bigger notebook that crushes games.
Yes nativley it runs at 720p, so if I leave all settings active, so 720p 1080i 1080p, it will automatically run at 720p, but the ps3 CAN output in 1080p if you force it to.
all the gaming laptops that come with12gb ram are about 4kg./8.8 pounds. I tried carrying one of those and they are pretty heavy especially if you carrying it around all day.
This with a 1080p ips glass screen (no plastic borders), an sd card slot, white instead of green theme (or even better - rgb), and maybe and ethernet port and I would buy it. However, there's another problem. Wouldn't it overheat as soon as you covered the bottom fan intakes? I mean that's what we do, we put our laptops on our lap or on the douvet. And if that renders it unusable, and I imagine it does, what's the point then? Could've put some extra ventilation holes on the sides or whatever.
I can't believe how people are surprised of that! First off, its Razer, secondly it's a gaming laptop! Their supposed to cost that much due to the unbelievable slim form factor and the pure power!
the razer blade does use the dedicated gpu on battery life because if it switched to the integrated one you would barely be able to run any game on battery.
Ips has better viewing angles thats all, the razer blade only having a tn panel isn't as bad as most ppl make it out to be. I dont think people are going to be playing this at any other angle other than straight on and a lot of people will probably hook it up to a monitor when theyre at home
the razer blade has a video card from the gtx 700 mobile series not the regular gtx 700 series, the gtx 765m is about as powerful as the gtx 650/650 ti. If you don't mind having a hdd instead of an ssd It really shouldn't be that hard to find the parts to make it around $500-$600 If you do want an ssd your looking more at $800-$900
Linus needs to look into these hidden gems, and not only show the popular items pushed by marketing. Come on 750M SLI and Removable to save power.. That revolutionary.. not to mention the reasonable price!
I wouldn't say worth the price, but I agree with you the other points. For best value for money you cannot go past the lenovo ideapad y500 with the second gpu expansion thing.
No, its about practicality. I understand where you are coming from but really think about it Eg: in a studio apartment, you live with your parents or yes, you live in a van (some people do). I have a desk top and some times i can see where a gaming laptop would be great, like gaming in bed as a good example.
you can play games, but the GPU doesnt power up. There are 2 GPU's in a gaming laptop, one thats integrated into the processor(this is what it uses when you are not plugged in) and a dedicated video card, that uses much more power(and thus delivers more performance).
Except for cooling, and you can't run out of battery power, and alongside with cooling a lot more space for more hardware, and a lot cheaper because you can get actual parts instead of expensive ones modified to fit inside a space the size of a sidewalk crack, and the ability to upgrade/swap out parts etc.... I could go on forever
the razer blade may be more expensive but I think its justified because it weighs under 2kg. Most Asus or MSI gaming laptops are 4kg which in my opinion is much too heavy to carry around easily. Laptops should be portable, thin and lightweight like an ultrabook and the razer blade is close to the weight of an ultrabook but with great specs. I would never get a heavy laptop, I would just play on my desktop.
okay then but some say the 1080p you see is upscaled which leads to a blurry image because the ps3 can't run native 1080p. I haven't bought a ps3 game in a while so I don't know.
Also you have to understand is razer doesn't have a big profit margin. They have to price things high so they can stay in business. Plus they get to say that they were first to do this. So yeah its expensive but you know what. Razer is always innovating and improving.
So true, Macbook Pro 13': Intel i5, 4gb ram, 500gb hdd, 1440x900,1299.99 Razer Blade 14': Intel i7, 8gb ram, 128gb SSD, GTX 675m, 1600x900, 1799.99 In theory for $500 you get a GTX 765m, Intel core i7, SSD.
Hmmm, looks exactly like my Retina MBP... atleast people will buy this product for the same reasons I bought mine. I think the Retina would be a better buy though.
Would you like them to put spikes or bumps or something on so it isn't perfectly flat? An ultrabook or this laptop would look like a macbook because that's the slimmest way of doing it (not an apple fanboy, im a pc elitist, its just good engineering for it to be like this for heat dissipation and actually being able to fit such components in a slim fom factor.
If they had a cheaper model with an i5 and no dedicated graphics, I'd be all over it. Battery life is more important to me than gaming capabilities, in a laptop.
$1799 and I hear it can run crysis 3 high settings at 35-40fps which is good enough for most gamers. I can run games at much higher settings on my dekstop but I can't carry it around. Also mini-itx cases still need to be plugged in to power source.
yes - if you're talking about sub-notebooks and actual 'laptops'. (Asus ROGs and clevos are super-notebooks, ie. the size of a few notebooks) As far as the blade goes though, it's really mediocre and pricey and I'd recommend Gigabyte P35K, and whatever is the successor to Asus U500VZ.

I think people just see the price and expect an ips screen I don't think they realize just how much of a feat getting a gtx 765m into a laptop this small is. if the benchmarks they've shown so far are correct it almost justifies the price on its own (I still think the 14" should start at 1500 though)
just looked your laptop up and the lenovo y580 has a bug that causes stuttering in game which affects some users so I think it's only that particular laptop and manufacturer.
In order for gaming notebooks to use their higher end gpu, they have to be plugged in. You also need a mouse to play and maybe headphones so you don't bother others in public. Name a place that you can set up a notebook with full mouse, mousepad, headphones, and charger, that you can't just take a mini itx lan computer.
I just bought a Razer Blade 14" 256gb SSD and a 2013 Deathadder mouse to go with it, I'm really excited and now I'm watching these videos to pass the time between now and 2-4 days from now.
You have more than earned your sponsorship. You're all the hardest working team at Computex 2013!
the atrox looks really good. i love the fact that it comes with a bat-top inside. i think the only thing that's missing is a handle to carry it around.
linus, the computex coverage has been amazing, thank-you for being awesome
Completely agree, I think the top details, the jet black colour and the intricate logo make it look perhaps even nicer than the mbp.
Yes, it was mentioned in the keynote for better optimization just so you can squeeze out more hours from the battery
It's upscaled 720p, in that the HUD is adjusted for a better fit on larger screens, but the graphics are unaltered. There are in fact a very small amount of games that are >720p on consoles.

been meaning to switch the madcatz i got in 09 as it's really worn out now, this razer stick will definitely be on my list when the time comes
TN panels are optimized for gaming since they're a lot smoother, unlike IPS. Razer Blade is marketed towards mainly gamers.
When I say this I mean that it looks awesome and minimalistic, and it's even better because of internals and intended use.
The $1800 price is not that bad given the build quality of this notebook. The difference from my TN to my PLS IPS monitor is insane. You don't know the difference until you have experienced it.
It's just a reinforced hole to fit a kensington security lock. You'll see them used mainly in shops on displayed electronics to stop anyone taking them etc.
kinda assume most people have a monitor/tv with an hdmi port but add another $100-$200 depending on what size you perfer, my asus 23" was 140 on amazon. that resolution is more than enough for the screen size. any higher and you'd have to start lowering settings to play at native resolution.
man that stick traveled me a long way back in the past!
also razer blade uses optimus technology which is supposed to allow you to play games for longer on battery without sacrificing a lot of performance.
The ability to run logic 9, final cut pro AND fun a thunderbolt expansion chassis.
Please read the rest of my comments and really take a good look around at more affordable parts, the prices you listed are on the high end for those parts. IPS panels have high input lag, which gives you a disadvantage in competitive gaming, which make TN panel an ideal choice.
looks cool In my opinion, blue or white would look unusual amongst the green and black
People who complain about the price obviously do not understand the amount of engineering required to design a device so slim but so powerful. If I were to get a gaming laptop, I would consider this over an MSI due to its size.

That's the point, it's so your eye cannot distinguish each pixel, so it is like looking at a fine piece of printed paper
pretty sure you can still play games without being plugged in as I've seen it done before. Also 30fps in bf3 ultra is expected for a laptop as the gpus are designed for mobile and are less powerful. It's obvious you won't get the same level of performance in a laptop.

The MacBook Pro is like a piece of art, not to mention it's a great laptop for school and more creative programs! :)

Thz Linus! For providing us reviews even though your voice is suffering.
When he used the HTC One for size comparisons, I knew he had good taste.
not anykind of HW will work whit OSX, but yes its posible to build a hackintosh by using the right components that mimic a original mac
this looks really nice. noise level will be interesting

Airflow and room for an epeen 4 graphics cards. My PC is huge because my house is big. I'm not limited on space in any way.
The name actually makes sense now!
Except for cooling, and you can't run out of battery power, and alongside with cooling a lot more space for more hardware, and a lot cheaper because you can get actual parts instead of expensive ones modified to fit inside a space the size of a sidewalk crack, and the ability to upgrade/swap out parts etc.... it still there on the 17inch razer blade pro don't worry
If I EVER wanted to replace my macbook for a windows laptop. This is the laptop I would buy. That thing is beautiful
okay then but some say the 1080p you see is upscaled which leads to a blurry image because the ps3 can't run native 1080p. I haven't bought a ps3 game in a while so I don't know.

So true,
Macbook Pro 13': Intel i5, 4gb ram, 500gb hdd, 1440x900,1299.99
Razer Blade 14': Intel i7, 8gb ram, 128gb SSD, GTX 675m, 1600x900, 1799.99
In theory for $500 you get a GTX 765m, Intel core i7, SSD.
do a full in depth review once you get home? thinking about buying it but not sure >,>
your advice would help.
Hmmm, looks exactly like my Retina MBP... atleast people will buy this product for the same reasons I bought mine. I think the Retina would be a better buy though.
There is a 3MS IPS panel with virtually no input lag. Sadly it's only 1080p. It's a shame that there are no 1440p monitors for gaming.
why does everyone get it wrong? It's $1799 for the 14 inch model. Also you don't need 16gb of ram in most cases as the games can't use it
Would you like them to put spikes or bumps or something on so it isn't perfectly flat? An ultrabook or this laptop would look like a macbook because that's the slimmest way of doing it (not an apple fanboy, im a pc elitist, its just good engineering for it to be like this for heat dissipation and actually being able to fit such components in a slim fom factor.
When is the worldwide shipping available? ready to shove my money for a 256GB ssd
If they had a cheaper model with an i5 and no dedicated graphics, I'd be all over it. Battery life is more important to me than gaming capabilities, in a laptop.
Watch the other Computex videos. They're around.
linus you sound so chill
3 usb ports is enough and the jack will support nearly all headphones except some of the astro or turtle beaches that split.
i hope that laptop is available in the uk as the other one isn't i need a slim fast laptop which looks plain and simple
$1799 and I hear it can run crysis 3 high settings at 35-40fps which is good enough for most gamers. I can run games at much higher settings on my dekstop but I can't carry it around. Also mini-itx cases still need to be plugged in to power source.
You think Razer keyboards are bright? Have you seen a Ducky Shine II?
yes - if you're talking about sub-notebooks and actual 'laptops'. (Asus ROGs and clevos are super-notebooks, ie. the size of a few notebooks)
As far as the blade goes though, it's really mediocre and pricey and I'd recommend Gigabyte P35K, and whatever is the successor to Asus U500VZ.
A razer blade's gtx 765M has 768 CUDA cores and has a 192-bit memory interface, and actual desktop gtx 760 has 1344 CUDA cores and has a 256-bit memory interface. A desktop gtx 760 would be nearly twice as powerful as this notebook's graphics card.
those laptops are pretty impressive but I think they don't come with ssd by standard. 1tb mechanical hdd + small ssd?
Just wondering, the Microsoft Surface uses something similar, but I haven't seen them suing Microsoft.
I think people just see the price and expect an ips screen I don't think they realize just how much of a feat getting a gtx 765m into a laptop this small is. if the benchmarks they've shown so far are correct it almost justifies the price on its own (I still think the 14" should start at 1500 though)
I beg to differ, I personally love the look of all the asus gaming laptops and also their ultra books (which aren't technically laptops).
So slim and the power brick is even small with all of that power inside. How? :o
Bro, thank for living there. I'm from Brazil. You don't know what it mean,
In reply to your other comment you removed, the alienware m14x is over double the width and the specs don't even compare.
It can if you lower the resolution from 1080 to 720 or something.
By the looks of it + the 4th gen haswell chip on it. Yeah i don't even wanna bother looking at the price... Brand new item w/ new specs = GG
I'd ram an ITX system in that atrox, that's amazing
just looked your laptop up and the lenovo y580 has a bug that causes stuttering in game which affects some users so I think it's only that particular laptop and manufacturer.
done and it's a few quid over a thousand dollars but it's the exact same specification as the blade.
Dangit, Pre-order only available in US only
I know but no one will be expecting a faster response time on a notebook or 120Hz refresh rate. In a small screen, we need better viewing angle.
Why do laptop manufacturers always screw up by putting the fans vents on the bottom?
you haven't tried razer blade so how can you know if it's smoother? A trackpad is such a small feature it doesn't even matter that much
