Hi Gary, This video was a nice change of pace. Not everything has to be GAS related. Thanks. By the way, it is "share with you" and not "share to you". Not a big deal, but I thought I would point it out

Thank you for the correction, I will keep that in mind!

Thanks…I sometimes can get caught up in thinking through the results to much and adjusting my camera to get it to do what I want that I forget why I’m taking photos in the first place, (enjoyment)! While I do want to get great shots It’s also important that I enjoyed my time.

Thank you for sharing! I have the same struggle too, I was too focused with the photo results but I'm not enjoying the moments and the photography process. Cheers!

I have an old Canon SX40 camera with some molds in the lens, and it still works well to capture the beauty that I'm seeing in the ordinary things around me. Esp. the people around me misses to see these beauty, and they just get amused that the ordinary views they see can be actually beautiful by appreciating them first.
I have used and borrowed lots of cameras already, and I find them more or less the same in capturing the beauty that I can see. The gear may still matter esp. in terms of the style or if speed matters for professional purposes.
But for everyday art, gear really does not matter, as long as I can connect to its properties and be able to use it in capturing beauty and moments.

Agree with what you said, gear only matters if you are doing something really serious like a paid gig or a very critical project. For casual photography, it doesn't really matter.

Thank you Gary. I think you did a good job of limiting your list to five tips. Many of us have suggestions for number six. :D
    Here are my two:
    1) Experiment with light. This could be part of your experiment tip. Light is as important as composition although I guess we often take into account when composing.
    2) Delete. Erase. Cull. Deciding which photographs to keep and which to get rid of can be tiresome, but it is crucial for the improvement of our judgment.

Roderick, thank you for sharing your tips as well! I especially like #2, although #1 is also a very important tip. #2 has helped me to understand my photography style better, and now I become more intentional when doing photography.

    Great tutorial for beginers Gary!
Some other tips to add: blur your background (bokeh) if your purpose is to focus attention on the subject. But at other times, when taking an environmental portrait, make sure everything is im focus so that we see the subject (a person) in the context of everyday life.
Consider using leading lines to draw the viewers attention from the foreground through the midground to the background. These lines do not always have to be straight instead there can be arched lines or s-curves.
There are more tips of course. Maybe you want to take the additional suggestions you get here and in a few weeks make a new video of what to do when you (the viewer) has mastered or started to master many of your tips in this video ???

Thanks, Gary! I'm trying also to be more thoughtful when I'm shooting instead of taking a ton of shots I'll just end up deleting.

Thank you for sharing! Being thoughtful when shooting is very beneficial, it really helps to slow me down and think more rather than just doing spray and pray. Cheers!
