My first 3 tattoos (2 symbols and a half sleeve) were done by an artist who didn’t even specialize in the particular style I was asking for, yet he had this confidence in his own abilities and I was convinced he could perform the task. He drew up the sketches and I was sold, he was able to reimagine a concept, and paid special attention to placement, body flow, organization, and artistic design. It was to the point that the second half of my half sleeve, I gave him the ability to do something he did have a connection to, and it makes me love it that much more. My point in sharing this is don’t run away from an opportunity. It is just that.
The guy who said you need to find someone you trust, that's the best advice. My favourite tattoos are the ones where I gave the tattooist a super basic idea, and just said do your thing. Letting someone have full freedom with their creative ability I've always found results in far better designs than I ever had in my own mind.
I used to work as a receptionist at a tattoo shop, and the best tattoos I saw there were ones where the artist was given a large amount of creative license. Like, someone gives a few elements that they want in the piece and a general style and let the artist come up with the design.
@@terminaldeity Yeah I got my hand done recently, and I gave the artist 2 pieces of info. I wanted a lotus, and I wanted it to be feminine. The result I got was 100x better than any of the images I had came up with in my head. I think people forget that artists have their own styles, and letting them have their artistic freedom allows them to really give you the most out of their artistic ability.
Same with me! I have one artist who I trust religiously (I'm going to be heartbroken when he retires) and I always give him an idea, and he goes with it. I've come to him with direct images, but he loves to take what I suggest and run with it. And I always let him lol
I wish I had that kind of trust. I'm sure they look great, and it must be the most fun for the artist, too. I just can't imagine having something permanently on my body without knowing what it'd look like (at least roughly) first. I only want 2 tattoos so far, and they're both very simple, meaningful designs. Nothing big or intricate. So I don't assume the artist could really "do their thing" much with that, anyways. Another comment here talks about it in relation to ordering food, they know what's good so don't ask for some big alterations. But I feel like it's different from something you'll have for the rest of your life. Everyone's different, I guess. I'm glad you like your tats, that's what matters :)

When I got my tat, the idea I'd sketched was a bit too intricate for the size, so the artist asked if he could redraw it. His design/drawing was better. I also wanted it in color. He hesitated and suggested just do shading. If I still wanted color after the shading, he'd do color. He was right. So I have a shaded greyscale image.
I asked a tattoo artist what the worst tattoo idea they’ve ever heard. There isn't yet, but there will probably be comments like "If i'm paying the artist should go with my idea, etc etc". Those people are the ones that aren't familiar with the concept of RESEARCH. Look up the artist's work beforehand, people. If they're refusing your idea you surely didn't do it and should have gone to a different artist from the start.
That’s just it though homie. These artists should have the honestly and pride to say they can’t do that style of work. Not every shop has their work and names just plastered everywhere. So if someone comes in to one of the only 3 tattoo places around, he doesn’t know if these guys can do what he wants. So instead of calling it stupid or dumb, just say, that’s not my style. I wanted tattoos since I was about 15, and parents said that I could get them when I was 18. I'm happy they made me wait, but especially my mom made it clear to never get anything that could hurt someone. She raised me well, so that's not a problem. I made a rule for myself where I never get any name tattooed, because you never know if the name is gonna change like mine did
My son had his first open heart surgery when he was 15 days old. In an effort to feel some of the pain he must have endured I decided to get a tattoo of a heart with stitches going through it. I wanted the heart to look real, like with all 4 chambers and valves and what not... My tattoo artist said no because it would look morbid and wouldn’t be a good tribute to my son. We settled on my son’s name, heart shape and he allowed stitches on the heart. Definitely the better decision ❤️
I honestly don't think it was a bad idea. human anatomy isn't morbid and it means something to you, so why not. Sure, its super complicated to get all the anatomy right, but it would've been pretty cool.
Yeah, I’m thinking he didn’t understand my vision or maybe just couldn’t see it. I’m still happy with the end result but it would have been nice to see it come together with my original idea also.
Because portraits are very difficult to do and make them look respectable. Even for experienced artists, because faces have so much expression, making a smile just even slightly more curved or an eyebrow just barely more angled can COMPLETELY change the mood of he portrait
They're also the only tattoos outside of names I think are generally bad ideas. Like lots of tattoos I love and loads will still look great when the person is older if they look after them properly but one wrinkle in the wrong place will ruin a portrait tatt. Plus my stepdad had one of my sister from when she was a baby and it looked like a little Asian girl so he seemed like a creep whenever he took us swimming. It's a cool tiger now, black and grey with bright blue eyes.
I have recently started a sleeve tattoo. The artist was very happy when we started going over what I wanted and my "must have" was simple and she had all the freedom to have fun with the rest of it!
Plants, still life, geometric, abstract swirly bits (does this have a title? It must) Just to name a few other ways someone can tattoo. I admit it sounds bad though. She should, next time, put the focus on her style lol
This is why you do research on the artists. You should be able to look into their portfolio(Instagram, picture on their website etc.). Not all artists do portraits, animals and such. If you look at their portfolio you can see what they mostly do and in what style. You can't ask from a tattoo artist to do Realism when their style is Japanese(for example). You can't ask them to paint a realistic dog when they only do abstract pieces.
I mean just like regular artists have their own art styles, so do tattoo artists. And she’s putting something permanent on someone so if she isn’t strong with faces, people, or animals it’s better that she know her strengths and not do a tattoo that’s going to end up looking like shit.

@@tdr3471 I agree it could look cool, it wouldn’t really look like a Digimon though. Take agumon for example. The problem lies in combining all three styles to create a recognizable character. You might as well just ask for a dinosaur in a Egyptian pose, since the character won’t be recognizable anymore. Which admittedly is something I want to see now that I thought of it.
I really appreciate the representation that it's not just crazy obscure tats that get turned down. A lot of times those are non problematic. It's mostly about the style and if it something the artist feels confident they can manage to not screw up. It's about chemistry between client and artist. Sure, yes, a great artist can do multiple styles, but most will have a specialty and they also have to learn. It takes time. Everyone starts somewhere. They need to feel comfortable drawing it somewhere other than skin before they ruin yours. Thank you!
Finding a artist you trust and like their work is paramount. I also hope they would be honest and say I can’t or will not so something that isn’t their expertise.
Opposite actually. Both are difficult, but mammals are organic so there’s a bit more leeway. However, inanimate solid objects like cars and stuff have to be drawn precisely, any line off that isn’t straight makes it look weird because it is a factory made mechanical object with no room for imperfections.
I do the same with streetfood...if u specify them more it's gonna get ruined..so just tell them make it in ur best way... It's always the best

They said “a woman came up wanting their groin tattooed with FAKE HAIR. they shaved down there and then wanted to tattoo fake pubic hair.”

If you look at their portfolio you can see what they mostly do and in what style. You can't ask from a tattoo artist to do Realism when their style is Japanese(for example). You can't ask them to paint a realistic dog when they only do abstract pieces.

But they wanted to do the whole thing in a Victorian line-work style, which is a pretty specific style with lots of detail (opposite of Digimon which is made simple for easy animation). Depending on the Digimon chosen, it could end up looking like a Eldrich horror if you do it badly.
@@christinevanzyl3106 but an eldritch horror Egyptian didigmon tattoo also sounds excellent?
I reckon agumom in an Egyptian getup would be super cute
@@tdr3471 I agree it could look cool, it wouldn’t really look like a Digimon though. Take agumon for example. The problem lies in combining all three styles to create a recognizable character. Here is an example of dinosaurs in the art style: commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Sydenham_studio.jpg
It’s completely different from the cartoon style.

6:17 THE TURTLE IM DYING
Same! Pack it up boys,
I was looking for this comment I nearly died the animals: okay pack it up boys
The turtle: so rude lol
2:15 Can we just take a moment to appreciate how perfectly her dress's neckline lines up with her tattoo? 😍
“down with some swazzies” 💀💀💀💀💀
Mammals have personality and have to be harder to draw than inanimate objects.
That’s true but as an artist it’s important to have that as a skill but maybe she just doesn’t like doing realism
@@Leni_lovely She probably does more florals or has a more cartoonish tattoo style. Realism takes a different eye to accomplish
Opposite actually. Both are difficult, but mammals are organic so there’s a bit more leeway. However, inanimate solid objects like cars and stuff have to be drawn precisely, any line off that isn’t straight makes it look weird because it is a factory made mechanical object with no room for imperfections. Unless they use a ruler or something I guess lol, but precise realism for anything is incredibly difficult.
turtle: *ukk, she's rude* (slides away slowly)
I want a lower back tattoo of what my lower spine looks like after it was fused with all the screws and stuff. I've just got to find the right artist now. Someone who is genuinely excited to do it.
Bio-mechanical is the style you're looking for if that helps :)
Aye lmao I want to do the same thing but mines in the thoracic region
The editor(s) of these videos need a raise. They make the videos so dope.
I’d never do anything racist, homophobic, transphobic or anything hateful if I was a tattoo artist.
Don’t care how much they’re paying me, anything hateful is a no-go.
I like how this guy finishes his sentences with “you know” every time 7:52
5:14 When he says “I don’t fuck with anti-lbgt stuff” - he’s a little confused but he’s got the spirit
Poch Tattoos' laugh is amazing 🙌 literally made my day brighter
Pony and Poch OMG they are great together more of them please!!
Petition to bring back the "is anybody in there"
Yo the dude that told the guy to gtfo for asking for white power in front of a darker skinned client is dope.
This reminds me of how David "Lasercorn" Moss told his buddy they could get tattoos before his friend deployed and his friend wanted Samuel L. Jackson riding a t-rex and he wanted a unicorn with a jet pack shooting a laser out of its horn. When they showed up the artist had thought they had been joking but they both got them done in the end.
A lasercorn fan! Hi!
“I hate to do Animals and tattoos that are meant to be like peoples cats “
*Looks at my cat tattoo that’s meant to be my cat slowly looks away *
I have a (pretty sweet, if I do say so) rabbit tattoo, but it's not meant to be any particular rabbit, which was maybe easier? Either way, I was also like "... really? Ohhhkay..."
I dont think she meant like in a rude way. She just doesnt like tatooing animals. Which is ok.
"if i could grow my hair i would" 🤣😭🤣😭 those two friends are so cute together omg
For that white power dude, I would've gotten a strong black guy to tattoo him. See if he still wanted it
I like that the bleeps sound like the tatoo pens.
I have exactly one tattoo, it’s a sleeve. 3 years ago I lost my Dad to a brain aneurysm and he was a very religious man who raised me and my brother on his own when our mother walked out on us, he toiled and sacrificed to give us both the best possible life he could. I wanted to memorialize him, so I had the idea that since he was religious I would get a tattoo of a dove carrying an olive branch in its beak flying upwards into a ray of light from the sky to symbolize my Dad joining the afterlife. I wanted something that symbolized what my dad meant to me but also was something I could be proud to show off to people. My Tattoo artist made it look beautiful and did an amazing job. Respect your tattoo artist people they work hard to please you.
I've had an artist tell he wouldnt do a quote I wrote for my parents who passed when I was young, all because apparently it was a song lyric I've never heard. It was just a quote that I thought of and brought it in. Flat out told me I was dumb cause I didn't know the song and he wouldn't do it for me. Never went back to that shop and my friends refused to go there after that too.
I am so sorry for your loss. And that guy was an asshole! Tattoos can be really meaningful, and I hope you find a tattoo artist who will actually be decent.
@@gabbym333 I did it eventually with a street artist which I regret I did. It looks fine just wish I would have waited. I was a teenager and got it shortly after my mother passed away.
I absolutely love that the guy with a beanie has a dog in his lap
it's the consistency of this channel for me.
Personally I love being able to compromise on creativity from the client and also the artist. So the client is getting what they want, but at the same time the artist is having that ability to create a piece they enjoy. At the end of the session you start building this professional relationship and it makes things easier. I always encourage clients to as questions and vice versa because everyone needs to be on the same page.
As a kid a million years ago, my best friend and I got my water color pencils and a jug of water and a card table and set up a temporary tattoo stand in her neighborhood.
Within an hour we had kids walking from streets away for them. BUT also within a short time, a kid I didn't know came over and asked for a swastika on his forehead.
I was freaked out.
I said no, no way am I doing that, and I was only nine.
So your friend is right, first dude, I hope that one's a no brainer!
Btw...I still can't tell if he really wanted that, or just wanted adults to get rid of our stand. Because he argued huffed and hawed, then disappeared, and fifteen minutes later was trying to set up his own tattoo stand with markers three houses down.
Didn't matter, we continued to make a killing anyway and went to Carvel for ice cream after.
*Kids, don't do this. In retrospect, even art supplies labeled nontoxic really shouldn't be put on the skin deliberately like that!
I didn't know that at nine of course.
I feel so bad for that dude that came in with his girlfriend
Tbh he kinda seemed like an ass
I don't. Anyone who wants / demands a giant tattoo of them on someone else sounds extremely controlling
@@MoonstarWStarmoon 𝚎𝚡𝚊𝚌𝚝𝚕𝚢
Why he sounds like a potential abusive guy?!
@@MoonstarWStarmoon i mean she's also a massive dick for letting him get a tattoo of her whilst knowing she's gonna be breaking up with him soon anyways
My dad had an amazing tattoo that had me and my siblings name on a shield (I think he was the knight? It’s been a while) and i loved it so much, it meant the world to me. When I’m older I’m gonna get something tattooed that he liked (maybe, I’m still young)
Btw the girl that doesnt like doing animals still needs the income thats her job ofcourse she wont refuse even if she doesnt like doing it
