Eh, in Michigan low gear pretty much doesn't matter ever. Just slap it in auto and spin the tires. Later maps that's not always the case, but in Michigan low gear and dif lock almost never make a difference.

For most vehicles the air intake is on top the engine, coming in from the grill. The reason that truck has two exaust pipes is because the engine is larger then most vehicles. The reason they stick up high is to keep the exaust out of your face.
@@aimslate1035 it’s not because is bigger than ‘normal’ engines (what even is that?). It’s because it’s a big v8 or v10 with two exhaust headers. They don’t have room to create a y pipe or an x pipe in the cab area, so they just route it up and use huge mufflers

Spinning wheels at in Auto and relying on winches instead of just using Low Gear was painful Jon. EDIT: There was also refueling, so you could have given some gas to the scientist truck, towed it back facing forwards with their engine assisting, and not have had to haul the deadweight.

Ah, so this game is Euro Truck Simulator: Survival Mode Edit: I have always found Euro Truck Simulator weirdly compelling, so I might give this a try. Alternate thought: This is Death Stranding without the Kojima.
This has, as Jon so aptly points out, a completely open World. As has Spintires/Mud Runner. XXX Truck Simulator has about 10 roads per country and a few cities with 5 roads each. Each is unleavable. Apart from the Vehicle type i see o similarity.
@@5Andysalive Spintires / Mudrunner don't have open worlds, what are you on about? Each level is an instance. The levels are huge and you can drive any way you please, but each level is self contained.
If I learnt anything from the couple of times I've driven through a muddy campsite, aiming away from the tire treads is better as vehicles have already churned up that ground. I tried to keep at least two wheels on new ground if I couldn't avoid mud trails completely. I did cost myself about £400 of mud damage, so I might not be the best to listen to but I got my car in and out of the field at least.
1:50 Jon you do not want an automatic car when driving on this kind of surface you want a manual car because then you can control the power given to the wheels (that's a simple reason as to why)
How long were those scientists waiting when you had time to fly from Alaska to Michigan, move a truck to your garage and arrange for it to be delivered to your garage in Alaska, and then pick up and deliver materials for a bridge that you then build yourself? Some very patient scientists.

Looks like the developers have newer experienced actual snow or cold. The good thing with driving in offroad in really cold weather is that the ground is frozen solid, the bad thing is when you have between 2 and 7feet of snow to get throw. Looks like they just powdered half an inch snow all over the ground and still keept the mud fysics
My dad used to be a trucker and is a pretty good mechanic, so he understands all the tiny vehicle nuances. He loves spintires and is installing this right now. Hes been waiting like an excited little kid for months for this game.
Why is it that everyone's reaction to "I'm stuck!", is to see how far down they can push the accelerator in the shortest possible amount of time? That's the kind of shit that makes tires spin on asphalt, and you think that will help you in mud and snow? There is a reason that the low gear helps in those conditions, you know...

You'll be surprised at how many people don't understand how a car works yet use them everyday. I speak to that as a former service writer, mechanic, and currently an automotive journalist.
Jon, it is an automatic, you don't have to shift, but automatics still can shift to lower gears, but you don't have to shift from lower gears to higher ones, and all wheel drive(like in the game) is usually a different knob

I´ve seen alot of ppl doing some early contracts/tasks but i gotta say this guy have a unique style on how he try to do things. It´s hillarious in a good way. I can se all the people screaming USE LOW GEAR. Knowing how trash that early truck is it´s really impresive what he manage to do with it in Alaska.

Its a good thing there was no other traffic in this game. Immediately after saying this is America so I should drive on the right jon proceeded to immediately drive on the left for the rest of the game basically.
so as a Michigander, I live in the lower peninsula aka the mitten/hand. The roads are pretty much cement, there are quite a few dirt roads around but they don't get anywhere as bad as in the game. Now the roads we have are not the best, winter destroys them a lot but we do have roads. Now in the Upper peninsula, aka the part above the mitten/hand, (which I assume the game takes place in), there are a lot of islands that you need a ferry to get to and the roads are kinda like they are in the game. The main islands will have some roads, but will have dirt paths like that, now if you go to one of the other islands, they will just be all dirt paths, if there is even a road to some people houses. We have a friend who lives on Drummond island, and most people just use four-wheelers to get from place to place.
This was a really good video, it's kind of relaxing to watch you struggle through the mud and work your way through the challenges. Hope to see the livestream and where this trucking journey goes
09:10 not far off, Jon. It’s actually the intake that you’d want high up to keep water from getting in. (See vehicle snorkel). As long as the engine is running the exhaust gas would restrict water from entering through the exhaust pipe.
Jon, Michigan person here from the northwest part, the roads are worse IRL than in the game here, they just got around to repairing a major highway, going through a major town, after it being full of potholes and cracks for 10 years. It's kinda disgusting in my opinion.

Believe it or not in the US, unless you live on the coast or near a city, so much of it is rural land, crappy roads, and space. And typically outside interstates, loads of roads are still crappy, at least in my driving experience
You could have used the truck that you unlocked when you unlocked your first garage. With the free upgrade that you get with it, it becomes an offroad weapon that is way more capable than the 2 other vehicles
