Which dryer do you like best? Comparison chart is up on my blog: genamarie.co/2022/12/comparing-all-my-diffusers-from-35-to-430-which-diffuser-is-best-for-your-curl-type/
Have you tested any of the hair dryers for how loud they are? I was looking for a quiet hair dryer with diffuser when I came across your video. The $200.00-$400.00 price tag was shocking!
I have been using the Conair dryer for a little over a year now, but after watching this video, I decided to spring for the Curlsmith Defrizzion. WOW!!!! Money well spent! My dry time went from 15+ minutes to 6-7 minutes! I definitely love the kickstand option. Also, in spite of its size, it is definitely lighter than the Conair dryer. I was getting arm and wrist fatigue with it but didn't at all with the Curlsmith. LOVE your videos! Thank you for all of your time and research :)
Wow! This is ssssooooo helpful. I just checked out the comparison chart and I can't tell you how good it is! TBH you had me at "shopping guide" lol thank you for putting the work in to help others like me. ❤️
Hiii I have a question , how long does the curl smith take to dry your hair ? I have medium thick hair and was wondering if it would dry my hair quickly?
I bought the Shark at Costco for $150. Loving it so far and I agree it's pretty hot,. I only use the low heat setting. BUT the only negative I have so far is it's HEAVY!! It's the cord because it's like industrial thickness lol.
I bought the Shark IQ several months ago after watching your video review on it. Previously I used an older model T3 with a diffuser I bought after market. It was ok but I was annoyed with the lack of flexibility of the diffuser. The main thing I like about the Shark is the easily retractable prongs for diffusing end vs roots. It did speeed my drying time by maybe 2-3 minutes...so that is a wash in my book. The size of the hair dryer when the diffuser is detached is good for travel and packing. I had to get used to the weight distribution of the dryer, the cold shot is mostly very warm...never really cold, and the shorter cord length is less desirable. Having said all that I probably would buy it again. I rule out the Curlsmith brand because of body and diffuser head size in terms of travel...I don't have money or space for 2 hair dryers
I'm still using my Devacurl blow dryer. That green diffuser it came with is trash so I have that huge Black Orchid diffuser attached but I had to buy a certain piece to make it fit. Its called a Snozzle. Both still working like a dream. I think when it finally dies I will switch to the Curlsmith dryer.
I'm so thankful for these videos! I just found your channel and I love it. Thanks, thanks, thanks! What I need next is a makeup tutorial, I hate wearing makeup and the time it takes but yours looks so natural!
I own both the Shark & Dyson, and prefer the diffuser head of the Shark, but my hair yields even results from both. I wish I didn't have to hold the cold shot down on both, but that's how it is on majority of dryers. I do feel Dyson gets really hot, but I do use high heat and high speed when I initially start diffusing then taper down.
I have & use both too. I just use one for a month or 2 & then use the other🤷🏽♀️ I have no set rotation, but I like both & can't decide which I like better
I air-dry my hair 90% of the time but I still use my 30 yr old Conair hair dryer with the diffuser it came with!! That being said, I thought I’d see what you said about the Curlsmith Defrizzion and think I’ll try the Bio Ionic. Thank you for the in-depth reviews!
I picked it up at Costco Black Friday weekend for $149.99. The color is black, which I like better. It does get pretty hot, so I use cool shot most of the time.
Thank you so much for this! I would love to buy the Curlsmith blow dryer but unfortunately it’s not available in Germany. Not even the diffuser attachment. I reached out to them and they confirmed that it’s not available here yet and not possible to ship here, very unfortunate 😢 but I’ll check out the other ones you mentioned!
Hi Gena! I'm in the process of shopping for a new hair dryer and would like to know which of the Curlsmith dryers you prefer? Is the travel one lighter? Are the heat and speed options similar? Also, have you tried the Laifen dryer? Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated!
I've had my Shark for 2 years now, and it has always worked so well. Up until recently, it cannot run for 5 minutes without turning off. I've tried troubleshooting and it doesn't work. Found out it has this issue very often after some time.
I definitely want the shark, love the diffuser style. Has anyone done a comparison with the shark hyperair vs shark flex style? I figure since the flex style has less watts would be less high heat on hair?
I have learned so much from you Gena! I am going to get the bio ionic universal diffuser because I had already have the gold pro speed dryer. I was using an old diffuser from LUS but I am so frustrated with it coming off all the time, sometimes bonking me on the head. PLUS several of the prongs have broken off from it dropping on the floor. I have fine low density shoulder length hair. A question: Do you need to protect your diffuser in the suitcase if you travel with it? I have a travel diffuser but it rarely fit the hotel dryer. Thanks!
Curious which is your personal favorite. We have very similar curly hair. For the past year, I have been using a stand hair dryer that I sit under which is nice but I'm thinking about using a handheld every now and then, so looking for something new. I nearly invested in a Dyson and now you have me curious about the Shark. I'm thinking that may be one of your favorites or is it the Curlsmith?
Just FYI, it depends on the person, what works for Gena may or may not not work for you. You have to try it for yourself, I bought a Dyson just thinking I would return it, but I fell in love with it.

I also thought I would get the dyson, but my Mum's one broke as soon as the warranty ended and I changed my mind. Also, after trying hers, it's good but not enough to make it worth the crazy prize in my opinion.
I just meant after hearing about the temp being at a higher heat is what turned me off of the Dyson. (fine curls here) so I will probably prefer the Curlsmith dryer as soon as my Deva Curl dryer clonks out.
When I left to go on my cruise a couple months ago, I realized I had forgotten my Dyson & stopped at a target on my way to the port & got the Conair texture dryer. It did NOT work for me at ALL. My curls were being tossed around like crazy within the diffuser, it reminded me of those money wind booths where people go into a small glass window tunnel trying to catch all the cash that's blowing around them lol 😂 So it frizzed me up quite a bit, but worse than that was my hair kept getting spun around the internal prongs & getting caught😬I definitely had some breakage that occurred while trying to unwind the hair that was caught. It also took forever to dry my hair, & I already struggle with long dry times as it is🫤 For some reason that dryer & my hair just didn't play nicely together🤷🏽♀️ I only used it the one time but lost the receipt 🤦🏽♀️ It was a bummer for me, unfortunately. I rotate between the Dyson & the shark. When I use the Dyson i usually switch out the diffuser after I'm done hovering to go into pixie diffusing for a bit, followed by just straight scrunch diffusing. I'm just shove the dyson concentrator nozzle into the seg beauty diffuser nozzle end, and it works beautifully. I already had that diffuser from when I used it with my hot tools dryer, so it's nice to still get use out of it.
@@InjectSomeCommonSense So if you take concentrator attachment, the one that's not quite as wide across as the other & I think it's used to straighten hair? Not sure cuz I've never straightened my hair, but you can jam it into the seg beauty diffuser (Amazon sells it, it's a nice diffuser; you can adjust the airflow on it). You have to make sure you get the newer model that uses a silicone type material that attaches to the dryer, allowing it to fit more dryers. So basically you're attaching the seg beauty diffuser to the concentrator nozzle, not the hair dryer. It's not an easy fit; I had to place the diffuser against my counter and use my hip to slam the nozzle into the diffuser lol. Once it's in there, you just attach it to the dyson! You basically are making the diffuser have a magnetic attachment by joining it to the concentrator attachment.
Same for me, but I use the Snozzle to attach an Orchid diffuser on the Dyson. I first put on the rounder, more open concentrator attachment then put on the Snozzle, then attach the Orchid.
I love the sharks deep diffuser cup and heat for my thick, long hair. Sad to say, it crapped out after a year or less. Will run for 5 minutes then shuts off. I prefer filters you can remove and clean completely rather than the brush cleaning. I’ll probably try the laifen I just wish there was a diffuser like the shark.
I tried the Laifen, which is supposed to be like a Dyson dupe, but hate it! The shape of the diffuser is wrong, the prongs are too short and my roots took forever to dry and in trying that the diffuser kept braking my cast, so had tons of frizz. I did bought the shark and love it so far. The cupped shape of the diffuser was designed with curls in mind.
OMG I HATED the Shark. Prongs or no prongs, way too hot, I find it hotter than the Dyson. At least the Dyson makes your hair shiny. The Shark was a disaster. I brought it right back. I love my T3 Cura Luxe, too, it’s got a great cool setting and dries my hair pretty fast! I slap an Orchid diffuser on that baby and it’s just perfect.
I would have loved to see the Laifen in here I know all these dryers cost you a fortune so obviously you can’t have them all but that’s the one I’m the most curious about compared to the shark and Dyson really more the shark cause the Dyson is just too expensive
I have had the Conair one for about 2 years now (I think?), but I'm going to retire it and replace it with the Shark Hyperair. The Conair one is okay, but fair warning that the diffuser is a little fragile. It breaks very easily if it's dropped, and the locking mechanism to the hairdryer does wear down (it's been falling off in the middle of my pixi diffusing for months). I really wish Conair would sell the diffuser attachment on its own as a replacement because I did like how it worked.
I was gifted my Dyson and I love it! Would I go out and buy it…absolutely not! Not at that price point! No hair dryer is worth that much! I’d probably opt for the Curlsmith dryer but as I live in Canada and the cost of the $ exchange plus the shipping that would be a lot more than $189!

This may sound crazy but the best diffuser I have had is one with NO prongs at all. It's really strange and I cannot find it to buy it again! Mine is years old and came with a hair dryer that will surely die sometime soon, and then I will be lost! As I don't think it will fit into any other hair dryer. Then this shopping guide may come in handy - if I can find these in Europe, that is! 😛
Not sure why the Shark Cord gets so twisted? It is a very long cord so looking to try a different dryer for short hair, I don't really want to get a Dyson wondering which other one you recommend for short hair?
Hi Gena! You mentioned a travel dryer and diffuser a while back that you liked. Was it the Conair Infiniti pro? Or do you know of a travel diffuser that works with the shark? Thanks!
My Shark didn't even last a year before it started malfunctioning and getting super hot (with a burning smell). I liked it in the beginning, but now it just burns my hair even on low (I never went above medium heat). I think I'll try Curlsmith, because Dyson was terrible & got way too hot as well. 😢
My shark did not last a year either. It constantly shut off and the brush for cleaning was useless. I liked it for about a month and ended up hating it.
Gens, the shark dryer you used has another one that looks exactly the same. Can you pls let me know which one exactly is the one used in your video? Thanks
There is only 2 shark dryers, the style iq that gena used or the flexstyle, the flexstyle is similar to the Dyson air wrap but it flicks into a hairdryer, however the diffuser on the flex style is much smaller than the style iq. I sent the flex style back and got the style iq instead and definitely prefer it. Mine is black and rose gold but it's the same one
This is going to be a shocking question- but I can't return my curlsmith dryer (I don't have the packaging- I threw it away) and I cut my hair so now it is too large. Does anyone know which universal defuser will fit on it? I want something that is smaller and deeper. Thanks
What is your take on hover diffusing? Once I plop my hair I try not to touch it alot so I don't cause any frizz. Once my curls get a cast on them, I touch them some, but no more than I really need to. Or do you only do the pixie diffusing? I just want to get good consistency from each wash day.
I hover while my hair is plopped over the counter so that way its still shrunk up and not too elongated. I do that for a few minutes then scrunch/pixie diffuse the rest of the way
@@GenaMarie I never thought about starting to diffuse while I'm plopping. Thanks for the tip. I have learned on this journey that sometimes one little thing makes all the difference! I'll try that. Tomorrow is wash day!🧖♀️
So sorry this is off topic but I am new and have been binge watching your videos. I see that you highly recommend OUIDAD Advanced Climate Control Heat & Humidity Stronger Hold. I am about to order this gel and wanted to get a curl cream, leave in or moisture product that layers well with this gel. I remember you mentioning a product or products that layers well with this gel and I remember that it wasn't a Quidad product. I really appreciate your help. Thank you so much. I'm loving your channel.
I love my Dyson! I got the shark and hate it!!!!!! It’s funny I felt the shark was much hotter and with the Dyson you can actually use no heat where in the Shark you cannot. Dyson all the way.
I recently bought the Shark on a great sale but it didn’t come with the diffuser and I can’t seem to attach my Black Orchid diffuser even with the snozzlepro. I will keep trying because I refuse to pay $18 shipping to get the Shark diffuser!! Great video!
In my experience the Devacurl diffuser attachment is good for getting to the roots. However it doesn’t have a bowl shape so I can’t really scrunch my curls to my head because they slip around too much. I haven’t had any issues with the dryer itself and the settings on it though.
I have never tried it so I can't speak to it. However I dont think the hand design of the diffuser would work well to cup the hair from what I can tell

Thanks! I usually always do the lowest speed setting
Thank you for the info.
This is going to be a shocking question- but I can't return my curlsmith dryer (I don't have the packaging- I threw it away) and I cut my hair so now it is too large.
Does anyone know which universal defuser will fit on it? I want something that is smaller and deeper.
Thanks
Does the Curlsmith XXL diffuser head fit on their new travel diffuser??
Yes!
Thanks for this video
Tomorrow is wash day!🧖♀️
I need to get my hair curly can tja diffuser work for me?
Brilliant! Thank you!
Have you ever tried the lus diffuser?
Nope!
What (if any) diffusers work with the dyson? Just don't like the one it came with much.
Only their diffuser fits. However I've heard some people rig up an adapter attachment on of some sort on the concentrator nozzle attachment
I just splurged on the Dyson. It quit working after a couple weeks. Sending it back. So not worth the money.
Check out this video for the creams I pair with it: ua-cam.com/video/xHO_bA-lorg/v-deo.html
Which one has the best warranty? I hear Bioionic poops out after a couple years
Good question. I didnt look into the warranty but I should have
What would good hair dryer and diffuser I have wavy and curly hair it is thick I some blonde highlights I no to expensive
The Shark or the Curlsmith!
@@GenaMarie thanks
I love my Dyson! I got the shark and hate it!!!!!! It’s funny I felt the shark was much hotter and with the Dyson you can actually use no heat where in the Shark you cannot. Dyson all the way.
Interesting!! Thanks for sharing
I feel like the shark gets hotter too!
The Conair one was terrible for me, the diffuser was constantly falling off. Almost like a poor clip design. Very frustrating
I recently bought the Shark on a great sale but it didn’t come with the diffuser and I can’t seem to attach my Black Orchid diffuser even with the snozzlepro. I will keep trying because I refuse to pay $18 shipping to get the Shark diffuser!! Great video!
$18 shipping? Im surprised. The diffuser is the main advantage though so it's definitely worth it!
I’ve been thinking of getting the Devacurl dryer. Have you heard any good or bad?
In my experience the Devacurl diffuser attachment is good for getting to the roots. However it doesn’t have a bowl shape so I can’t really scrunch my curls to my head because they slip around too much. I haven’t had any issues with the dryer itself and the settings on it though.
Thank you I didn’t think of that.
I have never tried it so I can't speak to it. However I dont think the hand design of the diffuser would work well to cup the hair from what I can tell
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
230 $
Which one is the quietest?
