Dear me. Houchen in denial about why the Tories lost the election. I’ll start with the hopeless campaign, which compared to Labour’s vote efficiency maximisation, was a disaster. It doesn't take much common sense to realise that the reason the Conservative party has gone wrong isn't because it isn't right wing enough. Reform switchers wouldn't have made the difference (even given the spoiling effect) and the significant bulk of switchers chose leftward options.
It would make more sense to consider incumbency senescence, leading to complacency, arrogance, cupidity and crucially the melting away of an ethos of public service. To govern is a privilege bestowed by the governed not presumed by those who govern. But then I am applying sense...

This all could have been avoided if the Tories had listened to the people and their concerns over all the channel illegals and mass immigration ,and not to notice all those who have overstayed their visa 1,700 Pakistanis alone is incredible , surely they would have been flagged up on someone’s computer,

Polls - and the results of this election - will tell you that the majority of the country aren't completely obsessed with immigration as an issue. It requires competent management, as everything does, but most of us understand that immigration is part of the solution, not the partial or whole cause, of the problems this country faces.

There were many things that made people lose "trust" in the Tories (if they were naive enough to trust them in the first place) but the number 1 issue, other than the 2022 economic crash, was Party Gate. Other than somehow finding a way to reappoint Liz Truss as leader, the worst thing the Tories could do is going back to the Blonde Baffon.

I rarely agree with Braverman, but I think her comments this morning were broadly correct when she said that the policies were largely irrelevant, it was the failure to deliver on any main policy commitment- immigration - NHS reform - Brexit - law & order - a better economy. Combine that with the sheer arrogance, lies and hypocrisy of Johnson, Cummings, etc.and the economic disaster that was Truss.
