El punto del duelo fue ver quién podía hacer mejor música, ya que desde el punto de vista de David la música no vale la pena si es disonante y no respeta un patrón, mientras que Gary piensa que la música debe ser libre y disonante.
En un inicio vemos cómo David ataca a Gary con una serie de notas que escalan con ritmo. Gary responde con una melodía improvisada que repite muy pocas veces las mismas notas.
Entonces llegamos al punto máximo del enfrentamiento, dónde ambas melodías supuestamente deberían enfrentarse.
Pero para sorpresa de David, en lugar de enfrentarse Gary hace que sus melodías se combinen para finalmente cerrar con su disonancia.
En otras palabras, Gary mediante una melodía disonante logro controlar y absorber una melodía armoniosa, creando así una melodía perfecta.
David impactado ante está verdad revelada no puede decir nada más que " Te agradezco"

Lil Dripp thats how keyboards work my dude, the notes ascend along it and his music sounded that way because it was played that way.
That's the point. Gary's style of music revolved around use of discord.

As a music nerd the reason Gary won was variety and creativity. While David used more of a simplistic melody Gary's melody had a little bit of tone and funk and emotion to it. The fact that he did something that is unusual adds even more bonus points.

Another reason is if you notice David did mostly scales. Scales can be done just with knowledge of the notes because of the fact that the finger patter on is the same. What Gary did takes practice and the fact that he did it with no practice is even more godlike.

Regular show really did drop the biggest bangers in cartoon history only to be used in a 2 minute long fight and never again in almost every episode
Gary and David's respective "halves" of the song also essentially showcase two different approaches to music- while David plays very rigid arpeggiated chords (you might be able to hear some Beethoven influence, as Beethoven did a lot of arpeggios to round out his music) Gary goes full funk with his riffs, using syncopated beats and dissonant chords to make his half pop.

Each makes good music but only together does this masterpiece attain life.
Gary's tunes feel almost as if they are trying to tell a story while David's are setting up a crazy beat for them.
So i kinda wish they would have stayed together to make sick new songs on their planet.

They both harmonise surprisingly well, each is also very nicely put together. (They’re just made with differing composition philosophies in mind.) So I can’t really say one was objectively better than the other.

There are great analysis around the nature of this song in the comment section, I´ll try to do my humble take. It looks like David is using a symmetrical harmonical pattern with little variation, while Gary rather than distorting the original melody, channels the idea and harmonizes with David´s motif, taking the composition to a higher and richer expression. I´m not a synth expert but also sounds like Gary has wider take on polyphony too, probably the reason why David talks about an impossible chord when both motifs have been arranged together.
Finally! I've been looking for a clean version forever, because they talk and there's fighting noises in the original song.

Totally! But i'm afraid regarding difficulty, Diamond and Pearl were like playing in hell mode in Diablo 2, in gen 6 they literally gave you for free all pokemons to win against the elite 4.

verner murillo It requires hand coordinating which ain't hard but trying to practice it is hard since you won't be able to know what key you hit but pianists have to memorize it like a computer keyboard for example
