    In this video, you will learn how to use filters in Revit. Filters are a way to select specific elements based on rules you can set with the end goal of overriding the graphics or affecting the visibility. Filters can be very easy to implement or extremely complex to get to the desired elements. Filters are just like other overrides, they are per view only. That is of course unless they fall into a view template where they would affect every view with that view template. If you have any questions about filters or anything else in Revit, leave them below and I will answer them, I know how confusing filters can be. Thanks for watching!

    Thanks for the helpful video.
    I was just testing now and discovered that in order to create a new selection based on the selected/existing one you should first select elements in 3D view and then click on "Edit" in "Selection" ribbon. In the "Edit Filters" window click on Selection Filters or and on a particular filter on the list and click "New..." and in this case "Select" and "Use current selection" won't be greyed out anymore.

      Yes that is correct. It is a bit convoluted to get the selection saved but you've got it!

    How can i make vertical bracing show up as it should in a plan? Can i make it shown like a dashed line? Some times it's not showing up properly.

    • @ArchitectureVanguard
      @ArchitectureVanguard  Рік тому

      Check visibility graphics for what you can do with vertical bracing specifically. If you cannot see it then it is likely a view range issue.

    It's a great and very detailed video!
    Can you make a video covering view templates, filters, worksets, show hidden lines, discipline, etc. over linked Revit model in host file (I mean all discipline Revit models are linked in host file)? Seems the behaviors are a bit different from in the working model. Thanks,

      I would check out my Revit Tutorials playlist as I do have specific videos for filters, worksets, linked models and what not.

    Congratulations, this is a great and exhaustive tutorial over filters! The best one I've found, really ;) Plus, the theory behind it seems much easier with all the examples!
    I'd only have one question:
    when we open the "Visibility/Graphic Overrides" window, under "model categories", we could theoretically edit things just as filters do (so for example uncheck the visibility of a specific category and so on). Is there any case I would use this tab (which might be quicker) rather than the filter one?
    Thanks a lot!

    • @ArchitectureVanguard
      @ArchitectureVanguard  2 роки тому +2

      Very good to hear!!! You would use filters for something more specific than the entire category or multiple specific element types or what not. Of course, use the categories instead of filters if that's all you need!

    I wish i had an option to turn the background music off. I want to playback 2x speed to find needed information. It is too much.

    Solid video, helped me a bunch! Did you ever find out about the "Use current selection"-function?

    • @ArchitectureVanguard
      @ArchitectureVanguard  3 роки тому

      Thanks! I do know that if you save a selection then you can access those in the selection filters. But as far as making one based on the selection from the filters menu, that is still a good question.

    And I have a Question about the filter, Cn we export filter modification from one view to another view...?

    • @ArchitectureVanguard
      @ArchitectureVanguard  4 роки тому

      You can in a sense that you are able to apply the same filters to multiple view templates. These view templates can be applied to any view to apply the properties of that view template to every view with that template.

    sorry maybe after this video you did find out as how it works on the VG dialog box on the bottom you have to use Edit/New and now in there you could add the selection filter that you saved: so thereafter the filter works for graphic changes. well maybe this is was oblivious and you knew it already

    • @ArchitectureVanguard
      @ArchitectureVanguard  4 роки тому

      Yes you are right, most people I see don’t use a lot of selection filters so most of the time, there are not to choose from haha but yes!

    How do you filter out elements that are in a linked file? I am trying everything but I can't get it to work.

    • @ArchitectureVanguard
      @ArchitectureVanguard  2 роки тому

      Filters do not work for linked models so I would try and tackle what you want to filter out in the basic visibility graphics settings.

    can you explain about "AND" Function

    • @ArchitectureVanguard
      @ArchitectureVanguard  4 роки тому +1

      And simply means that both one rule and the next rule would have to be true for the filter to execute. This is different than an or: only one of the rules or the other would have to be true for the filter to execute.

      @@ArchitectureVanguard Thank a lot for the prompt reply. i have 3 stages of Floor plans. 1) Working plans 2) Documentation Plans for Sheets 3) Enlarged Detailed plans. when i i create Sections, it will be visible all views. how can i control thru Filter. ie. Section mark of Enlarged detailed views should not show other views. Can you upload a short video regarding the said subject also And Function. pls

    • @ArchitectureVanguard
      @ArchitectureVanguard  3 роки тому +1

      Sorry for the late reply. This is pretty simple: you can create a different section or elevation type (maybe enlarged section or something) then make a new filter that looks at sections/elevations, then choose equal to that type name. With that, you can hide them all through that filter.

    The background music is very distracting. You should remove it. I never understand why tutorial makers put background music in tutorial videos. Really annoying.
