    I know some Chinese Diesel engines have a small hole in the inhale filter pipe and seals with a screw. you can remove the screw and light a flame close to the little hole to make the start easier in dead cold winter.

    If you want to avoid this kind of start up problems in the future, try heating up the fuel a bit, or start and run the unit once a month for 5-10 minutes. I have a 20kw electric start Chinese diesel myself for the past 3 years, It has a module to automatically run the generator on a weekend schedule at my home. I have over 7000 hours on my unit now. I installed a 1 micron bypass oil filter which keeps the oil super clean. I should get about 20,000 hours on it before I spend another $3000 for a new one.

      Nice to see you care so much about your engine and it's not getting neglected. I also have the electric start on mine. Is there a stock oil filter in it if so where can I get one, does it have pressure lubrication and where can I get the fuel filter.

    •  4 роки тому

      I am also looking for an opportunity to retrofit an oil filter to my zh1110 which is of bigger size but technically very comparable. I couldn't find advice on the internets how to add oil filtering. Advice much appreciated!!!

    I love diesel engines and now live on a 40' narrowboat with an old 3-cylinder Lister engine. It's a bit noisy, but I get the impression that it will be reliable. There's not a lot to go wrong. PS - I lived in Finland for 25 years, so I'm familiar with your kind of temperatures.

    Fill the heat exchanger with hot water to warm up the engine. Then drain it out after finish your job. Running dry and unwarmed the engine damages it

      Good tip, thanks!

    •  5 років тому

      Ideas to get this engines started are: Hot water in Hopper (warms engine andube oil up, easier and quicker to crank), oil in intake (increases compression), heating air intake with blowtorch, adding petrol or ether into the air intake. This last startup advice must nit be mixed with heating intake air and is bad for the engine as it will start to fire uncontrolled BTDC, possibly hitting back.

    Mate, be very careful running those engines in a shed, I have one almost identical with a 150 Amp 24 Volt alternator on it. I was running mine and unknown to me the prevailing wind outside was coming from just the right direction to hold the exhaust fumes in the shed. I was setting up my 24 Volt battery bank and 24 Volt to 240 Volt inverter and was in the shed about 30 minutes with the engine running, I spent the next 10 days in bed recovering from carbon monoxide poisoning, trust me you don't want to go there it hurts just to breathe, you never get all the brain cells back. By all means experiment, have fun and learn, just stay safe and be aware of your surroundings.
    Ray.

      Carbon monoxide poisoning is where the blood's oxygen take up is prevented by the CO. You would have felt drowsy & weak first, followed by an overwhelming desire to lay down & sleep - until death occurred, due to oxygen debt. Carbon monoxide is colourless & odourless. Since diesels produce virtually no Carbon Monoxide because of their oxygen abundant combustion process, it is far more likely that your lungs became inflamed & irritated by the soot particulates that non particulate filtered diesels DO produce. You would have felt no pain in your lungs from carbon monoxide, as it is not an irritant, it is a poisonous gas that replaces the oxygen in the blood with CO, which obviously the body cannot use. People have attempted suicide using diesel engines & failed, because the soot over powers them & drives them out of the garage choking, long before the microscopic carbon monoxide production gets to them. Try that with an un catalysed petrol engine & you'll be dead in 5 minutes. I used to drive a big 5 cutting cylinder grounds mower with a 2.2 litre 4 cylinder diesel engine. It had no cab, & on Autumn mornings I would sometimes get mild hypothermia. The exhaust exited sideways at crotch level (nice!) - I would rev the engine to full revs, stand at the exhaust, & let the exhaust blast blow at my crotch, up the inside of my storm jacket, & exit via my collar, blasting over my face & neck. I would stand there for 10 minutes until warmed up.. To no effect on my welfare whatsoever, then, or 25 years on. I have chronic asthma upon which the diesel fumes had no effect at all. Petrol fumes however, make me feel violently ill & bring on an asthma attack. Just to be clear though, I am NOT advocating ANY exhaust gas inhalation for any reason! I'm just relating an experience.

    • @Wingnut353
      @Wingnut353 2 роки тому

      @@hiyadroogs ... of course diesel engines produce carbon monoxide and lots of it, while there may be irritants it would definitely be the carbon monoxide that killed you in an enclosed space.

    • @hiyadroogs
      @hiyadroogs 2 роки тому

      @@Wingnut353 But diesel combustion is so complete, due to a huge surplus of oxygen in combustion (even at maximum power rpm, diesel combustion never approaches petrol engine stoichiometric ratios) that it would take many hours locked in a garage with one to commit suicide. & long before that occurred, the potential victim would be choked out by the smog & retreat.
      I wouldn't recommend anyone attempting to disprove this however!

    Hey dude, drill a hole in the air intake tube, thread it for a 3/4 pipe plug and get your self a propane torch to pre heat it and keep it in there while cranking. I ran these things for 20 years. Mine had electric starters, almost broke my arm and shoulder trying to start by hand. Very crappy units for 1800rpm generators. Would be much better if could be run slower like 1200rpm. Sort of self destructive. I still have 3 laying around here with lots of parts. Free for the taking.

      @@rust2985 Generator. But after 20 years or so of working on them all the time I finally got a good generator unit. A 3 cylinder Kubota. Very smooth. Single cylinders tend to self destruct, lots of vibration. I can not believe you could start that thing by hand, being that cold with no extra heat. When you spin it over and then let go of the compression release, thats when my arm would break. Use the propane, you will be amazed how much easier it starts. Looks like you live up in Canada somewheres.
