- In this video you will learn 5 Tips for painting with watercolors that will help you enjoy watercolor painting, especially if you are a beginner. These may seem simple, but they will make a huge difference.
1. Use the right brushes
2. Use the Right Paper
3. Use Puddles
4. Load your rush with the right amount of paint
5. Control where the water goes
I highly recommend having at least two paintbrushes, flat and a round. The two brushes I use are a 3/4" flat and a #10 round, however you can use a 1/2 inch flat and a #6 round as well.

What is right papers name?
@@hiranyasangarandeniya3742 not a name. It means that you should find the right paper to yourself, something like absorbing the water, capable to handle it. Not like just Broadsheet. 300 gr paper etc. You'd find it when you search for it, no worries :)
Ahh ok thank you..😁
Paint name
i feel so proud of myself because i found out all these things by myself before watching this video

That *is* something to be proud of!!
Panda Life I found out all this things too but on my second try. I feel so proud
Panda Life same
Panda Life same here🙌 high five
I didn't lol
HUGE TIP: Use two different water cups. One for cleaning the brush and the other to use to add clear water to the water colors. That way you're not putting dirty/colored waters on different colors.
Great tip Marce, thanks for sharing!!
MarceMallow "dirty" water creates a harmony in your work. there is even watecolor academy where students are not allowed to change water during painting process
Darina Guseva that's awesome
Darina Guseva shes refering to it like when you used blue colors and now you want to paint a bright yellow in the same picture ,you dont want that bright yellow to become muddy like
I need to use this tip to live in the process of watercolors
When I was just starting out I didn't even know there was such a thing as watercolour paper

I am good at pencil drawing but when i try painting with water colour ,i mess up everything.have some tips for me? :(
Check out my latest video on common watercolor mistakes, it is full of the most common things that frustrate people when they start painting with watercolor. Hope that helps!
When you stop drawing use a kneeded eraser this erasers pick up the led so you can see the drawing but it will not mess your painting 😉
sangeerthana m practice
We have same problem @sangeerthana m
have you tried with H or 2H pencils?
Looking at the blue plastic brush you said you wouldn't recommend already made me mad by looking at it... idk why i felt so much hate towards that ugly useless brush 😂
Hahahaha totally
Gauri Mahajan I realized she said 3 years ago😂. Yeah but I agree !!
@@Mr_osang. i was so confused about what i was so aggressive about, so i watched the video again. and honestly, i still feel this aggression seeing that paint brush haha

Thank you.
You are the best teacher I've seen.
Wow, thank you!
I'm new to watercolours. Loving them, loving your tutorials and loving this voice.

YES! THANK YOU! Finally a good video that gets to the point and tells me exactly the things I would like to know.
this video has inspired me to try making my own art work to display in our home. thank you!
Awesome, good luck:)
please do a very simple watercolor bookmark!!!
Great idea! I will:) maybe as a Valentine present for this weeks video......
Mr. Otter Art Studio im your a one fan
new to watercolors(how to properly use them) and this is SO GOOD! I love how direct/straight to the point the tips are! thank you~
I really appreciate that you use those prang watercolor sets we are all so familiar with in your tutorials. I think they are perfect for practice and learning about color mixing basics. I see a lot of tutorials in which the artist uses really expensive paints, so it's really refreshing to see someone who makes something beautiful with the paint sets we all used in grade school. 😀
Thanks Skylar! I agree, I like using something more people have access to for beginning tutorials:)
in my country (Philippines) prang is so damn expensive :(
Joylet Magparoc it's actually just 50Php for me. I think it depends on the set. it's not that expensive compared to most of the artist type watercolor. Pero maganda talaga ang resulto ng Prang :3

Great idea! I will put it on our request list:). The key is using just a small amount of watercolor on your brush when you paint on printer paper
Wow..I mean, Wow. That was like Bob Ross! Simple strokes, no over thinking, and you have a beautiful flower! Got to try this next! Thanks so much for all your videos!

Next time u should wait and let it dry or do the hair first

Hi how are you? Can you please show a tutorial to do watercolor washes, blends and shadows, backgrounds? I attempted to line and wash, but it doesn't turn out to be natural or in harmony. Thanks PS. How do these urban sketchers produce amazing washes?
Great suggestion! I will put it on my list
Thanks it really help me!!!
this isss so helpful ! but i have a problem. i know these things yet i cant imagine what i will gonna paint. im not that creative. help
What do you like? Paint your favorite place, or animal... or something from a dream:)
Mr. Otter Art Studio i would like to ! but i just dont know how will i gonna paint it.
If you search on youtube for "beginner watercolor" or "watercolor step by step" you will get a bunch of tutorials painting some nice motives. If you just want to practice it is a great way to start. And don't compare your result to the shown one too much - just focus on what you liked and want to practice further on. With creating any sort of art comes inspiration for further art projects.

I agree

Depends how interested or not you are in something. Why force yourself if it's not your thing.
I am in complete shock. I have only ever gotten "good" brushes that are round. I snagged a couple of my flat brushes from the packs I'd buy before I decided to invest in a few good brushes and I am FLABBERGASTED. Thank you - I'm currently involved in doing a multi page color mix chart and it's both more simple and nicer looking.
Wow, this really help me. I'm still learning and now i know what to use the basic brush. Thank you 💗
This tutorial is quite good! Simple and chill and not too much info to note
FINALLY!!! I CAN PAINT PROPERLY THANK YOU!!!
waw,,, awesome..... lets connected,, I Love drawing,,,,,,,,,,,,
THANK U SO MUCH
You're welcome! sorry this is late
@@MrOtterArtStudio It’s okay
thank you so much! I really wanna learn how to paint and these tips are amazing
can I use a cardboard paper (if that's what its called) when painting with watercolors?
Try it and see if it works
I have a problem - I have been painting watercolor for three years, and I always struggle with hues. Every time I try to paint, a few seconds after brushing, the paint lightens its hue. When I dip it in watercolor again, now it's too vibrant comparing to the color I had before. What should I do?
Min this is a very common problem. Watercolor gets lighter as it dries. This can be deceiving as you paint and try to match the color. If you keep painting does the color dry and become similar to the one before it? If you have mixed a puddle of color, it shouldn't change unless you re adding water or more pigment
Mr. Otter Art Studio I actually use watercolor that comes in paint tubes and a brush that contains the water in the stick of the brush. Therefore, I'm always inconsistent with making puddles and rather dip the watercolor paint on the brush, moisten the paint on it and then draw on the color to the paper. Do you think this is not a good idea, and should I rather make puddles instead?
Min Jung
Use normal brushes not those Aqua brushes. The Aqua brushes give a different effect and make it harder to judge how much water you are putting on the brush because the Aqua brushes are automatic while watercolour brushes are you adding water manually.
Very very good tips and useful tips in water colour painting I like this tips ....😃😍😋😋😋

I was looking for these tips very helpful..... Thanksssss 😛💞
Thanks ma'am ༎ຶ‿༎ຶ i am thankful towards you , that's for the tips
I've been doing it wrong all this time. I'm such a noob, thanks for this tips!
My paper is to absorbent. It is almost like painting on cloth! I cannot paint wet on wet because the paper absorbs any drop of water. It is even labeled watercolor even though it obviously doesn’t like water. Help.
When I watch this video learned that when we make watercolor art we need to use the right brushes, it will be easier to use watercolor if we use the right brushes. Load the brush with the right amount of paint. Also, it's more durable if we use the right paper on our watercolor art.
So true! I know these old videos were filmed with a camera hanging from the ceiling, I need to re film them:)
I used water color paper and it started to get some creases and wrinkles !! I'm really frustrated..give me please the exact name of paper to use
Which watercolor paper would you recommend , plz answer
I don’t have water colours so how can you make them at your own home without the skittles theory
Thank you so much for this video
