    My 01 Trooper (manual) seems to be way down on power and the check engine light is always on, I had to block off the EGR because it kept clogging, and it burns oil. It only has 90k miles on it. I’ve been trying to make it run properly but have had no luck. You got any pointers to make it run without emissions or to get it where it doesn’t puke into the EGR.

    • @CodyShell
      @CodyShell  Рік тому

      Hmm... My trooper burned oil bad when i first got it too (it has a reman motor now). At the worst i was burning a quart every 90 miles. There really was no remedy I ever could come up with to make it better. The cause being the oil drain back holes in the pistons between the rings get clogged up and then the oil burns instead of draining back into the crankcase. the rememdy is to have bigger and additional holes drilled in the new pistons.
      I have had issues too when my trooper runs like a dog. I always check the IAC valve, MAF sensor, and all the little electrical connections. Ive had to clean the port where the IAC goes into the throttle body before. I'd also not reccomend cleaning the IAC valve with carb cleaner, because its filled with grease and has little rotating gears inside that move the plunger in and out, carb cleaner will disolve that grease and the IAC will fail even sooner. When my would run bad and have no power it would only occur at part-throttle under 2500 RPM, if i floored it or ran the engine above 3000rpm it would feel normal. This always ended up being a vacuum leak or the IAC valve. I'd check or replace that. I'd also recommend smoke-testing your engine to see if you have any vacuum leaks. I actually had a bad throttle body 2 years ago, it was losing vacuum from where the butterfly valve pivots.
      Is your MAF sensor clean and hooked up?
      How old are your O2 sensors?
      Last summer i tuned mine up, new O2 sensors, replaced the MAF, new IAC valve, cleaned the EGR and it ran great.
      Anyway, as far as getting it running better without emisisons, i'm not too sure. my EGR system has never given me any issues. I've had to clean and replace the EGR valve once but that's it.
      You can try adding an oil catch can to your PCV system. I put one on mine and it catches quite a bit of oil. This at least keeps the intake a little cleaner and less cruddy. I'd say an oil catch can would help keep the junk out of your EGR and intake.
      Ive heard of remedys on the oil drain back holes... park the truck on an angle (driver side higher than passenger). pull the spark plugs. then dump marvel mystery oil, ATF, seafoam, or whatever cleaner you want into each cylinder, let it sit overnight. When the piston is at the bottom of its stroke hopefully the cleaner can eat away at the crud built up in the rings... Then repeat the process with every cylinder. crank the motor over with the plug out to blow all the excess liquid out. I never tried this myself, but couldn't hurt.
      For me rotell 15w-40 synthetic diesel oil burnt the least.
      Every 3rd oil change or so I'd clean the intake with seafoam. Run an entire can of seafoam in the oil for the last 200-ish miles of my oil before changing it... honestly none of these things ever worked for me, but you can try. If you can try cleaning the cylinders out with the method above, then try running seafoam or a quart of ATF in your oil directly you might be able to get things a little cleaner.
      This was just a huge brain dump, hopefully some of it will help!

    Hi Cody,
    What motor are you running, the 6vd1 SOHC or DOHC?
    Did you need to have an adapter plate made up or did it come with the car.
    Looking at doing something similar to a pair down-under.

    • @CodyShell
      @CodyShell  Рік тому

      I have the DOHC 6VE1, 3.5. It's an aftermarket intake manifold that bolts to the V6 and the supercharger on top. It's made by a company called Alpine, and they're from South Africa I think.
      Someone told me they got in touch with Alpine and they would be able to manufacturer a new kit. Not sure if that's entirely true, my kit was used

    Hey Cody, That super charger knocked your mirror right off! LOL Your lucky, you got the newer blower nose cone. That is the quiet design one. I have the older one and it makes a ton of racket. That blower sure makes a difference doesn't it? Its like a totally different truck. When I drive Garrett's Trooper its like I am driving around in a go-kart power wise. :) Sorry Shifty!

    • @CodyShell

      That's good to know about my blower nose! How can you tell mine is the newer kind? That's pretty interesting! Yeah, its a night and day difference, it really wakes it up. Especially since I have the 33s on my troop, it needs what ever help it can get!

    Cody thanks for the great Trooper videos. I love my 99’ Trooper at 170k miles. What size tires are you running? I’m thinking of going up to 265/75R16’s on the stock rims. Thinking about a directional M/S tire this time. Thoughts?

      Thanks checking them out! I'm running 285/75R16s on the stock rims right now, basically 33s. I did have a set of 265s of my trooper for awhile, they were great! I know you can run the 265s without any lift, so thats a good deal. I had about an inch and a half of lift, maybe 2 inches with the 265s in this video: ua-cam.com/video/CyUFHPm5NP4/v-deo.html

    • @CodyShell

      The stock 4.5 inch pulley that comes with this kit only creates a Max of 4.5 - 5 lbs of boost. With that little boost no tune is needed. The stock ECU and injectors can handle it, that's how mine is set up right now. I know once you go beyond 7 lbs of boost then you need to start tweaking things.
