  • This year on the show we picked some of the best known offroad machines to tackle Tassie, and the Holden Jackaroo has been one that many overlook.
This season we proved that you don't have to spend a heap of money on a vehicle for it to be capable. The Jackaroo was the cheapest car on the trip but drove everything the Patrol, LandCruiser, and Defender did, sometimes surprising us all from the side of the track!
Keep an eye out for more on this weapon of a vehicle over the coming weeks.

This rig looks awesome, they are an underrated vehicle. That V6, Auto and 33's combo going to chew the fuel though. Dmax 4JJ1 diesel swap is the go in them, can tune to +300 HP

I love my Holden Jackaroo!! I bought it second hand with an ARB bull bar, 32 inch tyres, blacked out paint job, safari snorkel, lifted and so much more. Looks absolutely mint and goes great off road. First time I have actually come across a video like this and interested to see how your Jackaroo went off road. Mine is my first 4wd I have owned and have taken it up sand dunes and on the beach, a lot of fun; can't wait to take it in the bush!

At last someone is doing a nice build on a "Trooper". I live in Sweden and has a 1995 3.2 LTD 5-speed manual. Love it, and it´s amazing off road. I have BFG KO2 33" and a 2" lift. Best vehicle I ever had. I think it´s strange how this car seem to be a blind spot for everyone. They are great. Not 100% comparable to an 80-series, but maybe 90% (?). But hey, they only cost 1/10 of an LC. And no one on this planet could say that any LC is worth ten times a Trooper. Maybe people in general don´t know it´s an Isuzu. And in my book that´s not any worse than Toyota in general. And don´t forget that they ride very good on the highway too. The 3.2 should be bullet proof but may take some oil or have ticking lifters when cold, but that´s not a worry. But please take good care of that automatic. They seem to break for the Americans now and then. I don´t really know (mine is manual), but I guess it´s the usual story of service and not overheat it. Thanks for a good video. You will love it when you see how good it can flex for beeing an IFS. Compared to some rivals, it´s a rock crawler. And they did a good job with the stock skid plates too. Regarding your accesories, where do I put my money? And does it ship to Sweden?

Jack's require allot of pacients. Got a 4jx1 and let's just say it's a love hate relationship, but they are great machines for the price.

Guys how much did the bar & rock slider combo cost and girls, you’d be surprised at how many do up their Jackaroo’s, there’s heaps of us dedicated Jack fanatics out there here in Aus and NZ

There is a great facebook page that we were hanging to be apart of while building this rig up was great to now be able to see what others have done too. The combo is custom so you would need to speak with 'Raslarr engineering' they specifically made the bar for the car and we reckon it looks the goods!

@OffroadAdventureShow, I know the Facebook page you are referring to, I’ve been a member of it for many, many yrs. My pride and joy is the 2001 Jackaroo with the Vic plates JAKROO. I’m very familiar with RASLARR as I asked them a while ago about building me a rear wheel carrier bar for mine. It was really, kinda exciting for use of the Jackaroo fraternity to see you guys actually getting a Jack instead of the usual mainstream 4bys. The Jacks are a lot more capable than ppl would like to think. I for one have mates that bag me for the Jack and they’re all big and mighty with their troopies, BT50, FJ’s, rangers and cruisers and I’ve gone places none of them dared as well as pulled them out of the bog. The admin of the page, Clayto, now that bloke puts his through its paces... Looking forward to seeing the series

Had one of these, never again, the 3.2 v6 is the worse engine ever and an absolute mongrel to work on, went through 8 alternators in 3 yrs, the slightest bit of mud/water etc and it's off to buy another one, lifter noise was horrid and expensive to replace and the transfer case hangs very low, got hung up many times. The 3.5 v6 was the better engine of choice, if that engine ever died you could put in a 3.8 v6 commodore engine with little hassle (bell housing bolted straight up). They are a very comfy and capable 4x4 i just wished i had never picked the 3.2 v6 and be wary of who you get to fix the auto, not a lot of people know much about them, most will recommend a rebuild ($3500+) when all it needs is flushing properly and there is a certain way of doing it , it pays to do your research on these vehicles, even Holden didn't know how to repair these vehicles properly.

If she gets a flat she'll need a man to change those tyres !

Given Jess can swap out tyres on a semi-trailer, I reckon she can manage the Jackaroo no worries
