Russia Life: An American Living In Modern Russia A first hand look at the experiences facing an attractive American girl living and working in modern Russia.
The café at the end looked exactly like the US and the students looked like American college students. The church was fabulously beautiful. Thank you for this lovely look at Russia!
I dont like the US education system. I've studied there since 2005 and it teaches one thing: do everything FOR YOURSELF. Russians learn how to combine their knowledge and work together as a team. Its very cool.
Guy LA Its called "rugged individualism" a coin termed by President Reagan. It teaches an individual to depend on himself instead of a group, because eventually, that group wont be there to help. Its what made America great, "Rugged individualism".
And in private life of that RUGGED INDIVIDUAL happens the same story: when he faces real problems in life, nobody is around. He is left on his own to deal with it. That's what it teaches americans: YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN FROM THE BEGINNING TO THE END. Unlike in RUssia, they say " YOU HAVE US....ALWAYS. So think, guys, what do you really prefer before you take Reagon's side.
Rest of Russia except Moscow and Saint Petersburg too cultural. If you will walking in basic Russia don't go outside at night, don't hang out with strangers, cuz in Russia beating each other is national sport. Also no one will help you if you feel self ill.
I doubt the students will adopt much of the accent, but they will learn American pronunciation, grammar and structure; this Americanisation of English is concerning to many commonwealth English speaking countries.
I grew up in Houston and there where many people from eastern Europe, Germany and Russia. So the faces look the same and the older houses and building remind me when I was younger. ..The older churches we did not have however we did have whole villages of immigration that are now just US English-speaking people that do not remember their past history. I hope to visit Russia before my time runs out .I ask that you forgive my writing skills because I am self taught from a time in history when younger men where expected to do physical work activity and class ways not important.
+Wyatt Phoebe You meant 'pure Slavic' facial characteristics. She could be descendant of any European mixture. Only way you can tell is she has slight accent like she learned another language growing up, but that does not mean anything.
+Frankie english is not her second language. She is talking in a deliberate manner to make sure she is articulate in what she says. She is east coast ivy league college. It is much like english english to take pauses in speech . beautiful girl.
+eatcarpet Ive seen cities in the United States (some in Wisconsin, Wyoming, Ohio) that look like they are stuck in the 1980's and 1990's. You can probably go to every country in the world and find a few places that fit the same description.
Russia would be safer than a country in the E.U. In the E.U., if you are assaulted by a muslim, *you* will be criticized for soliciting the offense. If the same was to happen in Russia, 10 or possibly more would come to help.
Some people think that Russia is dangerous because of all the chaos in Northern Caucasus. But, though it's technically a part of Russia, this is a place of other, very savage, traditions and corruption. People in other parts of Russia are absolutely harmless... unless you provoke them.
Everyone is so beautiful. I am all American but, I do not understand why we are, seemingly, always so distrustful of each other. Attractive American girl doesn't begin to describe your graceful beauty. Thanks.
She sounds like she learnt English as a second language, there is a hint of an accent that sounds a bit Slavic or East European. I wonder where she was born originally?
+aucourant My brother lived in the Philippines for a few years, when he came back he had a accent. Living in another country for a while will usually start to give you an accent. I have a Sister-in-law who is Russian and her parents told her that she has an American accent now.
+aucourant did you not catch her name, LAURA MALLOY , ; Accent probably comes from living in Russia, she is probably learning Russian and all of her students speak English with an accent, and then she is catching on.
Janna P hard to believe considering slavs rule 15% of the world's land. The land in possession by Slavs is larger than South American continent and 99% of it is fertile.
Thank you for the short tour of Ryazan! Just one correction, the Monastery is dedicated to St. John the Theologian (one of the 12 Apostles) not St. John the Baptist.
SoCalAries and I'm here in Russia learning ur languge and the Russian grammar is a pain in the ass xD very difficult but it will be my third language I think for u it would be more easily u have it on ur gens
Cristian Danilo Gomez Garcia I tried learning Spanish, I couldn't get past words and phrases, my sentence structure was shit.. but mexicans have asked me if I was mexican cuz I have the accent down
My undergraduate education in the US was mostly giant lecture halls of 300-500 students. We had break-off groups of 12 for discussions, but mostly it was large halls.
As an American, I have long believed that the propaganda we Westerners were fed during the Cold War era regarding Russia was mostly lies. Your video bears that out, as do my own virtual excursions to that country. You look too young to have directly experienced much of the Cold War era, but Americans were told that Russians were very poor, lived in hovels, stood in long lines for basic necessities like bread, lived only to serve the state, and were mostly atheists. It seems that the average Russian lives at least as well as does the average American, and clearly religion is a major force. Is that your experience also? Please hug a few of your favorite Russians for me.
Craig Corson lol funny as it may be but there's some truth in what they told you but it wasn't about the Russians it was about the gypsies. that live like that. the Russians live differently now then they did in the 80s you see over there there is no loads if you own a house it's yours or passed from generation to generation over there health care is free over there education is mostly free unless your going for surgeon or somebody crazy life is diffrent in that aspect that when the ussr broke apart the 1% stole all the riches and became this corruption so people live poorly only a small margin live like kings. and here the reason why you see so much immigrants in usa it's because of an option to start something like a buisness to build a better life for you and your family. in russia you start something and if you don't have friendsaid up top they will shut you down weeks from when you started, plus corruption. I hope you can understand a Lil
Craig Corson the truth is, those things you have mentioned about the Russian past are actually true, and there are not many good-managing/rich people in here (well if only in Moscow/St.Petersburg) PS: the hug thing is very cute and nice of you, thanks
I'm betting that she probably has some Russian/Slav genes too. I mean, American girls are, in general, horrible when compared to Russians. Don't let american movies or shows fool you! haha
Of course. She's attractive so she must be Russian lol. Do yourself a favor and visit some cities in the US, they have some of the most beautiful women I've ever seen in my life(I've lived in 14 countries)
bmx7596 most of the countries of the world have beautiful women but russia, poland, lithuania, netherlands etc like their 80% or more of their women are beautiful and they dont feel ashamed of their body like they do in japan, south korea, usa and colombia. In usa and colombia some girls fix their nose, increase their boobs and shit, in japan and south korea they make their faces look more like a sweet teen and shit. And you barely see this here because some women think that if god made her like that she will stay like that.
Danna Vanessa USA has wildly different cultures inside the country itself. You can travel a few hundred miles and the people are completely different, its like going to a different country inside a country, be careful to assume its like the movies or what you hear. I have lived in the USA for many years. It's not all like California and New York, lots of natural beauties in that country.
I was amazed when I read a book that took place during the Chechen war. At first I thought I was reading about an army during the 1920s or something. It was absolutely appalling the way they treated eachother and how they had to live regarding supplies and housing. I was doubly appalled when I realized the war took place in the 1990s! I can't remember the name of the book tho.
I will never understand why Russians and Americans hate each other so much, that they have stacked up nukes against each other. BTW.. 5:05 was damn cute !
Russians don't hate Americans that much. As far as I know, Americans also don't hate Russians. It is just the politicians of America are scared of Russia and spread lies about it for its citizens to believe.
jay davis o Of course they do. Just because the communist regime stopped some of it out doesnt mean it is dead. The Eastern Orthodox Christianity is still living in Russia.
You though Japanese people want respect? Oh, Japanese people are nothing compared to Russia! In Russia, formal speech is EVERYWHERE! The most formal country in the world, not Asian or Middle Eastern countries!
Dear, god! China is the worst when it comes to this! I know it's in their culture to value bluntness and overpopulation made it ok to push and shove people, but damn is it annoying. They still do it even outside their country!
ArtistRG34 I've been to China twice and I got pushed down several times. They don't even say sorry and instead just glared at me. Another time when I was in my own country this one greedy mainland Chinese group took literally everything during a hotel breakfast and ended up wasting it because they couldn't finish it.
It's because of the logic the Slavic languages are based on. The understanding of formal speech and its usage is slightly different in every language. But take a look at French or German, the formal speech is used in almost the same situations as it would be in Russian.
Well, we in Russia do not exactly have formal way of conversation, like Japanese keigo. It's just we have formal speech constructions, polite words and we like to use it.
i dont understand why russian orthodox women have to wear head scarf. even in the birth place of orthodox Christianity women do not need to wear head scarfs at all inside of the church. only Muslims women and old women wear head scarfs. and even then this is not such a strict orientation were all of them practice such an outdated practice.
+Risto Mladich Catholic churches especially the Orthodox cover their heads or at least used to, its not required any more in Catholic churches in the USA but maybe in Russia they still do. especially the older people. What's the big deal any way, Maybe she likes wearing a babushka.
+Risto Mladich you will be surprised but they have to wear that shit not only in the church but all the time, all the fucking time. Those who pull it off when leaving the church are just not faithful enough (that's what the priests say). I hate it myself because it's ugly and looks similar to muslim traditions.
+Jacob SB no, they only wear it at church. Because men cannot have their head covered in church but women have to, I have never seen either of my grandmas wear their headscarf outside of church, ever.
Greg Akopyan You are missing my point. They HAVE to wear it, it's not like they do wear it. Actually only a few percent of russians even go to church on a regular basis nowadays.
+Risto Mladich Are you kidding? In America is was common for women to need to have their head covered in church or even in public - country folks more often than in big cites - all the way until late 19th century.
Still want an advice? If so contact me and maybe we will make up something usefull. Im no expert, just russian. But quick search on the subject show big amounts of bullshit and misinformation, mostly outdated info.
If you are young and adventurous, if you are not afraid of harsh winters, I'd highly recommend going to Russia. You can have modest but decent living with only $2K a month, even less, everything included. You won't even need a car - public transportation is greatly developed.
Oh the irony... talked to a girl from Ryazan for almost 6 months last year. The good parts of her personality *positively* obliterated EVERY American woman I have ever met in my ENTIRE life.
the school is better for sure, the universities are maybe not. Have some older equipment over there, but they focus on education very good. THere is more service from professors etc in russia in the university, but if going into reserach, less money is there.
Great video! She's a bright, likable, and attractive young woman. I picked up on a California accent once when I think I heard "fer" instead of "for" at 1:14. I wonder where she learned Russian.
Its cool that she did this, but she was relocated there as result of a program. It would have been more useful to see the this, but from the perspective of someone that moved there of their own accord.
+moises valenzuela yeah, good luck with that one. Why don't you look closer to home. Pretty girls need the same things. They want you to be educated, good looking, and have a decent mental health.
She said a lot of untrue things about American colleges. First of all no one takes 6 courses a semester unless they are rich (and can devote all their time to classes) or wish to kill themselves. Most students also work (multiple jobs) or at least participate in other activities besides studying all day. Also, American college sizes vary vastly, and even in big schools people still develop a group of friends or cliques, especially if they live on campus. She’s obviously rich, so I don’t think her college experience was at all close to the average Americans
In Russia many professions are occupied almost exclusively by men and some almost exclusively by women. No laws or restrictions, just society's expectations. It's way more traditional society than USA. Judging by gender composition, they probably are future linguists or chool teachers.
School teacher are mostly female profession, but exceptions exists too. So my teachers of physics, astronomy, computer science and sport was the men. Also, men are better controlling the hooligans.
+al cas don't be stupid if ur the richest most powerful country on earth ur gonna have to police it the world would be in a constant state of destruction and war if the us didn't police it
Oh yeah! We'd get along better if Putin didn't stalk America and didn't move Russian borders closer and closer to NATO bases. 😸 Seriously, we'd get along better if the world stopped paranoia. Start with yourself!
Not to mention that the exchange rate has gotten a lot more favorable for Americans since the time this was uploaded. Although, the environment might be a bit more hostile.
jay davis the type of European Russians are are sooo far removed from what most other European people are,and there values of morality are very damaged from having to survive a brutal war??
I have a question: I'm a stock trader and I've noticed patterns in certain time periods where certain things are bought regularly. I'm interested to know what day of the week most people in Russia get their paychecks or work benefits. In the US, it's usually Friday. So I'd like someone who lives in Russia to answer this question for me and it would be greatly appreciated. I can't find much on this subject from Google. Thanks!
Being a Russian guy born in America to immigrants from the USSR, I find it okay to live in the states, but it's come to a point where I really wanna push myself out there into different cultures. I'm flying off to Sweden later today, and plan to move there, and potentially even hold Russian citizenship at some point in the future.
If this is what a classroom in Russia looks like for grown-ups. Kids in elementary school here in the US and basically every other grade is spoiled in comparison
i speak russian, however, i tried to go but bc of my military career, even tho i am out now, well they wont let me go, ended up going to England 4 holiday again
Great observation. I'm Filipino American born in the Philippines but grew up in the west coast and have traveled internationally quite a bit. I have had Russian friends and girlfriends and i know exactly what you mean he he. If you notice the comment section here too that there is the usual envy and suspicion from non Russian women or even from Non Russian men whose time has passed them by
So I just started watching your video and realized your last name is "Malloy". Mine is Mallorey. Idk if that has some significance to you but it kind of surprised me since it is very close to my name and im trying to lean Russian because of my family. I am "American" but my ancestry is Russian/German. Weird I know.
The café at the end looked exactly like the US and the students looked like American college students. The church was fabulously beautiful. Thank you for this lovely look at Russia!
+David Gantt they don't sound American.
+Y10Q huh? The person making the video? She is totally American
Yes the church is full of gold while people live in slums

Oh great - so she's going to be giving them her somewhat typical Californianized American accent too.
I don't hear how she sounds any different than any other American...
LOL, you don't adopt an accent of your teacher dude.
Awesome! California Rules! Everyone wants to live here or be like us! Yay!
Buffy McMuffin The stupid ones, yes. And the world has many of those.

I like it there are English-language teachers in Russia. English is, after all, a rather important language.
The second most commonly used language after Spanish. 👍🏼
+Name Shown Ah. Chinese is actually the third most common after English and Spanish.
That said, English-language proficiency, within many ex-Soviet republics, is still low.
It appears English-language proficiency, among the German-speaking population of Germany, is high.

+Jacob SB no, they only wear it at church. Because men cannot have their head covered in church but women have to, I have never seen either of my grandmas wear their headscarf outside of church, ever.
Greg Akopyan
You are missing my point.
Well done you young lady..most interesting..looking forward to more vlogs like this
Wow I did the same program as her to Germany.
I wish I was born in Russia because I wanna learn russian so bad!
Would anyone recommend moving to teach English in St. Petersburg or Moscow?
How about the cost of living vs the USA?
Any suggestions appreciated :-)
Still want an advice? If so contact me and maybe we will make up something usefull. Im no expert, just russian. But quick search on the subject show big amounts of bullshit and misinformation, mostly outdated info.
If you are young and adventurous, if you are not afraid of harsh winters, I'd highly recommend going to Russia. You can have modest but decent living with only $2K a month, even less, everything included. You won't even need a car - public transportation is greatly developed.
This was very interesting :3
+Russia Vids Laura You better behave yourself and don't try to spread your feminist toxic ideas to these beautiful Russian ladies.
Lovely music in the background throughout.
She looks like a sister of Natalia Poklonskaya!
+baba dinka that comment made my day :-D you are absolutely right!
Uglier sister for sure
Oh the irony... talked to a girl from Ryazan for almost 6 months last year. The good parts of her personality *positively* obliterated EVERY American woman I have ever met in my ENTIRE life.
Are only females able to get an education in Russia?
Well, more women in Russia have professional jobs than men so it makes sense more women would be in universities. (From my Human Geography class)
+Yuki Silver (DemonAlchemist) that's news to me - I had no idea
Rspsand07 back that shit up, I've never heard of that
I have looked Russian education. Seems as though there education program is better then the states. Not a 100 % on that though. Only read 2 articles
the school is better for sure, the universities are maybe not.
I dated a Russian chick, she liked using whips and chains. Idk y but I kinda liked it.
zawadi kagira did they excite you?
-Zawadi Kagira-
CNN: a Russian spy interrogating a brave American by beating him. Lol
Its cool that she did this, but she was relocated there as result of a program. It would have been more useful to see the this, but from the perspective of someone that moved there of their own accord.
Phatnaru0002 I'm from Texas and I've been to Russia twice. I'm living here for a while now
I planning I on getting married to a Russian woman, they are very pretty.
They never stay pretty though ,they seems to all look the same as they age good luck dear you're going to need it
+moises valenzuela yeah, good luck with that one. Why don't you look closer to home. Pretty girls need the same things. They want you to be educated, good looking, and have a decent mental health.
Y10Q at least the feminism hasn't infested their mind and culture as much as it does in North America, (that includes Canada)
+moises valenzuela Does it really matter what country they come from? A pretty girl is a pretty girl -.-
fier glosely it does.
My mum is Russian and when i grow up I Will live in Russia. Sorry for my grammar.
Anyone know the name of the song that starts at 5:45?
+Prasanth Valsan Хор Спасо-Преображенского Собора - Благослови душе моя Господа (1 антифон грузинский распев) Пс. 102
I'm doing research to move to Russia and I'm so nervous

ivan arciniegas actually it is "Moskva"
Stop correcting. From Moscow so I know how to say it.
ivan arciniegas ok
Actually it is "Masked Cows"
ArticFox Queen is it not moss kow?
She said a lot of untrue things about American colleges. First of all no one takes 6 courses a semester unless they are rich (and can devote all their time to classes) or wish to kill themselves. Most students also work (multiple jobs) or at least participate in other activities besides studying all day. Also, American college sizes vary vastly, and even in big schools people still develop a group of friends or cliques, especially if they live on campus. She’s obviously rich, so I don’t think her college experience was at all close to the average Americans
Are those segregated classes? Didn't see one dude in there :O
In Russia many professions are occupied almost exclusively by men and some almost exclusively by women. No laws or restrictions, just society's expectations.
It's way more traditional society than USA.
Judging by gender composition, they probably are future linguists or chool teachers.
+Juniper Williams Even the gym teachers? Fuck England must suck.
Thomas Dank engine UK is not just England
LucasAndAGuitar Scotland hates those pricks
School teacher are mostly female profession, but exceptions exists too. So my teachers of physics, astronomy, computer science and sport was the men. Also, men are better controlling the hooligans.
Russia is not the bad place somepeople think it is. I am sure things have changed and they might improve.
shes so damn cute
Beautiful. Very well done video. Thank you.
We'd get along better if Putin didn't stalk America.
+Mary Shaffer we'd get along better if the U.S. Stopped becoming the police of the world.
+al cas don't be stupid if ur the richest most powerful country on earth ur gonna have to police it the world would be in a constant state of destruction and war if the us didn't police it
Read the Bible , study history from first writings and don't worry because there is nothing you personally can do to shape the world.
Oh yeah! We'd get along better if Putin didn't stalk America and didn't move Russian borders closer and closer to NATO bases. 😸
Seriously, we'd get along better if the world stopped paranoia. Start with yourself!
Not to mention that the exchange rate has gotten a lot more favorable for Americans since the time this was uploaded. Although, the environment might be a bit more hostile.
She is Blyatiful
Micah Epp kek
Are you spy?
the background music is very amazing
I dated a Russian chick,,,SHE WAS A HITTER lol
brucekirk89What do mean?violent? Im talking to one right now and im getting a feeling she has hidden anger issues.
jay davis the type of European Russians are are sooo far removed from what most other European people are,and there values of morality are very damaged from having to survive a brutal war??
Was lt a war within russia?
Lol what,,,,no Germany invaded Russia during WW2 took alot of Russian lives to get them out of Russia.
brucekirk89 lol...ohh yea..i remember that.band of brothers episode 9.
Thanks!
I would like to see russia simply for the deeper culture and much older atmosphere.
I was an ETA in Kazan. Great experience. :)
Being a Russian guy born in America to immigrants from the USSR, I find it okay to live in the states, but it's come to a point where I really wanna push myself out there into different cultures. I'm flying off to Sweden later today, and plan to move there, and potentially even hold Russian citizenship at some point in the future.
So in a nutshell, you are an American that wants to hold dual citizenship. You are America my friend
If this is what a classroom in Russia looks like for grown-ups. Kids in elementary school here in the US and basically every other grade is spoiled in comparison
Very nice. Enjoyed!
The girl in the video needs her own show
Excellent video Thank You !
Your awesome for covering your head ! Thank you
my friend got place in Slovakia for a year and he got paid very well
I LOVE Russia! I was born in the wrong country for sure. Great video!
No graffiti in the hallway. Its definitely NOT a school from an inner city American school.
i speak russian, however, i tried to go but bc of my military career, even tho i am out now, well they wont let me go, ended up going to England 4 holiday again
A very beautiful and well spoken woman.
Awesome video
Amazing how the young Russian women are not obese and don't cover their bodies with tattoos and strange metal piercings.
Beautiful... The school.
Im American
.LOVE RUSSIA.
Thanks for sharing this video
well done
God the Russians are laughing their heads off that this is "attractive" by American standards.
+Calamari Chris Ok so because a couple people said she was attractive means millions of americans think so too?
Great observation. I'm Filipino American born in the Philippines but grew up in the west coast and have traveled internationally quite a bit. I have had Russian friends and girlfriends and i know exactly what you mean he he. If you notice the comment section here too that there is the usual envy and suspicion from non Russian women or even from Non Russian men whose time has passed them by
i enjoyed watching. thanks.
So I just started watching your video and realized your last name is "Malloy". Mine is Mallorey. Idk if that has some significance to you but it kind of surprised me since it is very close to my name and im trying to lean Russian because of my family. I am "American" but my ancestry is Russian/German. Weird I know.
I'm Northwestern European. There aren't that many people on my line. I'm an endangered species. Not really the correct way of putting that.
Great! I didn't know that Americans teach English by this program in Russia.
Dmitri Tousaint
Do you have to have an English degree?
Dmitri Tousaint
Thanks for reply.
you are very pretty young lady and your video was very interesting.
Does anyone know what the name of the choral piece is starting around 5:44? It's beautiful.
Orthodox Christian from Russia is religion of freedom.
