    People saying in the comments: "Go back to the islands if it aint good here" ... Seriously?? That's NOT the Kiwi way - that's NOT how we help people in our Country. We stand up, and help our people - not run them down because they are struggling. Shame on you! - I know all to well what it's like to struggle hard. It's not nice. Put yourself in their position and see what it's like. Have a heart to help everyone regardless of their situation and not run them down in times of need. That's not how we are as Kiwis.

      Chase Phillips We have a huge money problem in NZ. what's wrong with going back home? a lot of foreigners come here and speak pretty much no English like this poor lady. Why should they continue to live in poverty like this? We are all islanders in this country some not so smart. we be a burden if there are loads of opportunities for those who are skilled.

    Personal responsibilty is the answer, STOP BREEDING, if you knowingly bring children into poverty then the Govt should charge you with child neglect.

    IF YOU KNOWINGLY BRING CHILDREN INTO A HOUSEHOLD THAT IS ALREADY LIVING BELOW THE BREADLINE THEN YOU SHOULD BE LOCKED UP FOR CHILD NEGLECT.

      mal john instead of the government doing something to the parents they just take the blame when it’s not the governments fault it’s theirs! If you’re living in a garage in Auckland then move somewhere where it doesn’t cost as much.

    Doing a calculation on WINZ, this couple would receive an extra $160p/w (on top of income) and up to around $4 p/hr for children in daycare. We should not complain that these people are having children - it happens (it's also very cruel). However there are many choices in New Zealand including both parents working or 1 parent studying (and getting a loan for it) to increase their wages/salary. I know what it's like because I've been there. These kids need help regardless of what their parents decide to do.

      IDK about that. There are many benefits to Polynesians and Maoris living in New Zealand. Sadly we have not managed to adapt to it well. Causing many issues that I can name is breeding in large numbers and budgeting.

    This is sad, that all so called well developed country like New Zealand people can live in poverty. Children should not have to grow up in these situations and this makes me sad.

    There is no such thing as child poverty in New Zealand! If you live within your means, you can live a very comfortable lifestyle even on a benefit from the government, I think most of the children that are shown to be in these situations of not enough food or clothing come down to the parent or parents having put there habits before there children such as smoking drinking gambling, they even now have started supplying breakfast and in some cases lunch to children at schools, this makes me sick to think that parents are not giving there children food over there addictions or life styles.

      @HKT100 6 років тому +3

      I dont think you realize the cost of living is very high in new zealand. even with people living within their means and without drinking or gambling problems struggle to feed thier own families and pay the bills. its like people have to make the choice between the two every week. which is unfair. yes you can make the sacrifice and upskill yourself for a better higher paying job, but is the sacrifice even worth putting your kids or family through it? it just becomes a never ending cycle.

    so sad that the NZ govt can allow for this & worser poverty situations to occur in our country. I hope that in the near future our govt will put in place a process that takes lesser time to for families who are in this situation & allow them to come forward, be assisted & aware that there is help & hope,with just the basics shelter, warmth&food. This is a problem with our pacific island community. Guess we can all get started by standing up& doing something about it 1 person at a time!!...

      jinasuribinji yeah but back in the islands people have children willy nilly. and they bring that type of thinking here is so their children will do the same. It will take at least 100 years before they realize that this ain't the way.

    increasing the oncall wages of the tongan people we still call to come in as our security team to 100 dollars per hour. from dad siuta ekoti uaisele. 11:30am new zealand time 10/01/2021
    (start today, reminder to the families, when we call a red alert escalation, the kids can stay behind but the way things are setup, the kids are perfectly safe. if you are not safe, I am not safe, if the kids are not safe, we are not safe. it's an equal risk arrangement plus we have a huge team, have fun)
