I dont like Windows full stop, I have used Unix, Amiga OS and Linux in my home computers that use an operating system, I was forced to use Microsft Network at work though. During my Amiga days 3.1 was known as Windoze as it was so so slow!
Most of your "reasons to upgrade" are my reasons NOT to upgrade :) Like the forced AI integration, the need to install 3rd party apps to get the task menu back.. and a lot of options just gonne missing. Win11, in my opinion, is like having a Win10 pre-configured for stupid people, but you can't change it back - should be called "you can't do this anymore" windows xD
I only have Win10 on the laptop in my workshop, I use ArchLinux and Linux Mint on my laptop and desktop, I tried Win11 when it came out and hated it, I turned back to Win10 and will continue to use it until the updates run out, I will then install Linux Mint, this is very much like Win10 in its layout and is the best distro for people changing from Windows, best of all it doesn't spy on you or sell your data!

There is this one very simple feature which I know wasn't in Windows 10 and am really sure wasn't in early versions of Windows 11 which I find priceless. That feature is to reorder your pinned taskbar programs with the keyboard. I for many years have found it so annoying when I change one of my pinned programs and want to move it to a certain position. I have to remove the programs in front of that position and then add them later. So if I want my email client to be in position 2 then I have to get rid of the programs which were in position 3 and beyond. Then if I change my email client but have gotten into the habit of pressing Windows + 2 for my email client I have to go through the whole process again. I don't know when they changed this but using "Alt + Shift + Arrows" let's you move your pinned programs where you want. It's simple but such a relief of a change.
for real do a google search and then download rufus to make your install media from. newest version take all the problems out and totally automates installation.

I purposely disabled TPM in my BIOS so I couldn't get Windows 11. I'll stay with Windows 10 for a few years after it's shutdown. Did the same thing with Windows 7. Teaching myself Linux Mint also.

It used to be much more robust and functional than the tattered remains of today, but has been depreciated. In Linux, the command line interface is the holy altar of Linux. Then most of the outstanding free and open source software in Windows is a refugee from the Linux world. When you boot unsuccessfully in Windows, you're shunted off to some opaque black boxes that say they're doing something, but which invariably fail. The system repair tools in Linux are transparent, very powerful and actually (gasp!) repair your system. As a matter of fact, when Windows breaks Linux is my primary diagnostic and repair tool.

You guys with old or ancient PCs need to search how to use rufus to make installation media on a usb stick. couldnt be easier and it fixes all the compatibility problems and hardware requirements problems. I have 11 running on pcs from 1 year old all the way back to 12 years old. no problem whatsoever. you do need to do a fresh install. in place upgrades have never worked well on any windows version.
I don't bet that at all Brett. Microsoft has handled this release in a fundamentally different way than their old OSs. Windows 10 is a better operating system. It has more, and better features. It doesn't have "AI at every level of the OS," as stated as an MS goal. Too bad I guess. And in windows 10 you can chose your default apps - easily. You can also move the taskbar. And, it's still possible to avoid edge forced integration in Windows 10. I've been an avid windows user since Window 3.1. Windows 11 is fundamentally different from a different and worse kind of company.

Any Debian based distribution should be great. Avoid Arch till you are a bit more experienced. Fedora is also great but majority of linux guides keep Debain in mind. You can go for the staples Ubuntu or Mint or PopOS. Or you can directly do Debian which is what I would recommend. Just that you need to setup the non-free repositories which is a one time thing post installation.

I just gave Windows 11 another try last month, after 2 weeks, I reverted back to Windows 10. Windows 11 has gotten better since the last time I gave it a try, I was able to customize it to look like Windows 10 but in the end, I just got tired of all the extra steps required to get things done. In my opinion, Windows 11 is not a productive nor an efficient Operating System. Its Boring and Lifeless. I'm going to keep using Windows 10 till the day it laid to rest. Hope Microsoft has Windows 12 by then.
None of the features you mentioned are of interest me. I had enough trouble learning Windows 10. Personally, I think that Windows XP was the best version that they created. Plus the search worked! EDIT: I started with Windows 3.1 I've been with Microsoft for a while. I might look into some of the operating systems that are mentioned in the comments.
you can do so much more so much more easily. you can make 11 function mostly like 10. think of windows as speaking english. think of apple as speaking spanish. think of linux as speaking french. it'll be harder to learn and you still going to have to update at the same pace. al operating systems have to update. most linux becomes unsupported sooner than windows.

win xp was the first version with real spyware because internet got popular. it hasn't changed since then. thats 23 years they've been spyware. all you have to do is turn it off or uninstall it.

Most likely your BIOS needs to be updated, make sure EUFI booting with Secure Boot capabilities is setup, the fTPM enabled, and the disk needs to be GPT partitioned for Windows 11.
I've had Windows 11. My damn Explorer kept freezing. No, thanks. Installed Win 10, works like a charm. My only problem is that I don't have the uefi option to disable tpm.
Not having the option to place the taskbar at the left without third party software is a no-go for me. A taskbar at the bottom makes Windows pretty unusable.

I bought a new laptop. Although the last one I purchased was in 2012, I will probably do the unsupported hardware bit with Rufus on it. Linux is not really an option, As the learning curve is steep, and no Windows compatibility. Linux users seem to be like ex-smokers who now hate all smokers.
I would upgrade, but I already struggle to run some legacy software I use every day on Win 10. Haven't a hope with 11. I get it, we're supposed to move with the times, but the times seem to include paying every year for your software and not being able to play old games you love (and paid for!).

use a program called rufus to make your usb install drive. it takes out all those requirements. I have it running now on a 13 year old pc
I use Windows for gaming. Linux does all the heavy lifting. I don't see that changing.

The animation of close the windows seems to be 12FPS, it's horrible!

Don't believe in false information. Recall is not mandatory and cannot even run on non-copilot+ PCs.

its called platform trust technology for intel and on amd its called FTPM. if you upgraded from 10 to 11 without a fresh install thats the problem.

I just hate how every new notepad, folder or whatever is in a browser-like tab. I couldn't get over this and switched back to 10

My PC has TPM however I'm still on Windows 10. I worry about compatibility issues.
use a program called rufus to make your install media with a win11 iso downloaded free from MS.

I would upgrade, but I already struggle to run some legacy software I use every day on Win 10. Haven't a hope with 11. I get it, we're supposed to move with the times, but the times seem to include paying every year for your software and not being able to play old games you love (and paid for!).
There are tools out there that can assist in running games of olden times -- and software -- on Windows 11.
Who really wants to upgrade to the greatest spying tool in operating system history. Sorry never going back to windows. Linux is the place to be.
