It's because they want to make even more money by making customers buy the pump and most customers do as a pump is pretty much needed for a foundation. High end brands are just really greedy

I LOVE The Ordinary, their skincare changed my skin completely. My acne scars are fading, my skin is brighter and much, much smoother, and I'm not breaking out at all anymore. I don't even need foundation with the way my skin is looking right now but I'm so excited to try this!
Hey! Just a warning, I have oily skin so my skin can take new products w/o any bad reaction. I use the “Buffet” serum for morning skincare routine, and Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% serum and Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate 10% for nighttime routine. I mix their organic rose hip seed oil sometimes at night time if I want extra moisture for my skin. I've been using these for a month now and there has been a huge change in my skin. Good luck :) Though, I'd still suggest you do some research on The Ordinary products beforhand

TheETZmom Do you need the 1.0? How fair are you? I ask because I received mine in a few shades, and I'm pretty fair - not very fair, but next to it. ;) They do seem to be flexible in how they wear, shade wise. I got one I assumed would be too dark, and one very pale, figuring I could mix as needed (the darker one I chose bc it's a "highlight" shade). In fact, all 3 look pretty wearable on, and that really surprised me. What shade/brands do you usually wear?? Maybe I can help a bit? :)

I just got my Coverage Foundation and holy shhhht!!! This foundation is bomb. Took 5days to ship but it's super worth the wait! Medium to full coverage but is so lightweight. I didn't like the Serum foundation that much because I'm oily skin. I think the Serum Foundation is best for those with dry to normal skin. BUT OMG 6.9 for the Coverage Foundation!! Literally the best 6.9 I spent for makeup!

I've seen a number of people confused by the names, and also by one of their other brands, NIOD. (They say "NEE - odd", I learned via their videos! ;)
OMG I have meaning to buy these. Thank you for the MAC reference guide - smart and helpful. Decium is from my hometown and I love it - think the English appreciate it more than the Canadians. I spoke with a Decium employee who said that the fact the whole process - labs, manufacturing, packaging, storing, etc.. is all in-house (plus no pricey packaging/ advertising) helps them keep prices low. They are also constantly update formulas - some companies are still using formulas from 20 years ago! I think (and hope) Decium will change the beauty industry - beauty should be accessable!

Most foundation actually contains similar ingredients it is their brand image and how it physchologically makes us think its better that people look down on cheap products

M Mom if you know a brand and shade that works for you, use Temptalia foundation matrix (like ajenda suggested), it's pretty accurate. there's another site that's just as good called findation.

For the first time ever I can now do "no makeup makeup" thanks to this serum foundation. I absolutely love it. My skin looks like skin, no caking. Completely obsessed. Have used it every day. Just waiting on the full coverage version to be delivered now. I always thought my skin had yellow undertones but ordering all the colours turns out I have red undertones. Who knew!!! This is my foundation. No need to continue my permanent hunt for a foundation I like. I love this stuff!!!!
+Ivette Farias Hi Ivette, yes you are correct. My all time HG drugstore high-coverage foundation is L'oreal Pro Matte Infallible 24H in shade 101 Classic Ivory, it's $12ish. And now that The Ordinary releases $6 foundation that even Wayne Goss praise to the high heaven makes me feel like I'm spending too much money on my $12 foundation when I can get a great foundation at $6. Of course I have tried some below-$5 foundations too (such as Wet n Wild foundations) and while they cater to pale skin, i found that the coverage and lasting power is still inferior to L'oreal Pro Matte Infallible. Hopefully The Ordinary's $6 can trump the Infallible one so we all get to spend even less for makeup :-) (more $$$ for skincare products, yeay!)
Your MAC reference guide was spot on. I ordered both foundations and the color was perfect. You are correct the foundations are smooth and glide on and feel high end.
This is the best makeup I have ever had! The serum is the best I'm 62 and have good skin however I get so many compliments on this makeup and my skin! Just ordered 3 shades use light pink under eyes and 2,0 neutral along with the yellow gold! Finish is amazing hope they don't go out of business ordering about 6 more!!!

Allison T Hi, there. I'd personally try to match your shade and olive tones as I suspect your pink may be more flushing than a true undertone. Of course, I can't see you to be certain, but I've seen that in others (clients), and even in myself! Since you mention having olive tones, the shades with Y for yellow will probably work nicely. There's even a couple with built in illumination, noted as YG (yellow gold). However, I read Deciem say that they'd be introducing separate highlight/illumination products soon enough!!! just wanted to mention... ;) Hope that helps a bit! Best of luck. 👍

I just ordered 3 different colors and a primer.....so excited to see how these work out! My skin is combo. I'm 53 yrs. of age and my skin is very "thirsty" and not the same as it was 10 years ago! I have tried EVERY foundation....i read all the reviews before I try and still they settle into fine lines and wrinkles.....I am really hoping that these work for me! Imbhind7proxies unfortunately, Stephanie Nikole has a thing about higher end brands... I don't think she wants to give less expensive brands a chance. My dermatologist loves quite a few of their acid solutions - specifically for dry or hormonal skin
I agree she doesn't seem to have much time for lower end brands, she clearly loves her expensive stuff. I must say though, I thought she gave a rather objective and comprehensive review of The Ordinary. I really appreciated how she tells you exactly what each item is supposed to do and what you need to mix, what skin type certain things are for ect..

I've known about The Ordinary/Niod/Deciem products for about a year, give or take and yea, they are awesome imho. What makes me so proud is that: 1 -they are Canadian (like me!) and 2 -anyone can afford them/without causing them beaucoup bucks. In all seriousness though, they do sell out quite quickly and if there's something you want, grab it or you'll have to wait a bit until they're back in stock. P.S. Dearest Wayne, you said "there is something for everybody" regarding shades..please tell me...do they make any green-toned shades for olive skin? No matter how incredible a foundation is, I cannot wear it if it is peachy, pink, or orange-toned (like most foundations are sadly). it will look like a bright pink or orange mask on my light green-toned skin ... Please tell me they have olive shades? :( you only mentioned pink, yellow, or in between. I wish more companies would think of us green people! 😉😣
BrightStar717 Have you tried to colour correct? You could even mix some of the corrector with the foundation? I have seen famous makeup artist do this. Helps you conveniently customize your foundation.
I realized a while ago that by adding a green corrector (teeny tiny bit) to a regular foundation, it magically matched me better. I figured it was correcting redness in my skin. Took me years to realize that I am a "green" person :)
Thanks for all the suggestions - I simply wanted to know if the line has any olive-toned shades, which it does not seem to.. :( I have the Make Up For Ever BLUE drops that I add to yellowy- orange-based foundations. The blue neutralizes the orange and also mixes with the yellow to make green. It works better than using green concealers, I have found, and doesn't alter the finish. It is just discouraging that so few brands seem to make foundations in our green shades so we have to resort to mixing. We seem to be really left out! The few brands that do use green tones have only a few olive shades that won't work for all skin depths of olive. I hope one day that will change :)
I started using NIOD about a year ago but I switched to The Ordinary when you reviewed them. I am amazed by their products and the pricing. Shuhara Ahmed guys I have been using alpha arbutin along with niacinamide 10 percent for a month and YES it works. I would suggest getting their niacinamide if u don't have it in your routine. they work the best together

Ah, so that's where I get my pale yellow skin from. I'm Slavic American and most other pale girls I know have pink undertones. So hard to find a good yellow toned one. I'm going to wait to buy this foundation until they come out with 1.0Y.

So I finally tried out the foundations! Wayne is right, really good quality for its price. I prefer serum foundation to full coverage foundation. I prefer sheer, natural glow. 2.0N is great on Asian skin, really brightening without being too white. Thanks for introducing it to us!
Bummer, it contains an ingredient I'm allergic to. They look and sound amazing. Trust me it has been quite difficult finding a brand and shade that dos not contain propylene glycol, dipropylene glycol, or ppg which is the exact same ingredient.

I was SO excited to get my package in the mail. It took a month. I ordered 3 coverage foundations and the primer. I HATE it. It's quite possibly the worst foundation I've ever put on my face. I used a beauty blender. My pores and fine lines are screaming LOOK AT ME! It's patchy. I ordered neutral well I look yellow. I don't know if they got so many orders that they just threw a formal together and sent it out but I'm pretty pissed. It's TERRIBLE.
Happy to say that I just placed a HUGE order, they are all in stock today (sat 29th April) Some may say because he is friends with the owner he is not able to be honest but let me tell you, everything I have ordered from them is GREAT. The niacinamide and zinc has taken my huge pours and made them less than half the size. I cant wait to try all that I ordered

I think it's just gonna give us colours like its name, hydration must be addressed from your moisturizer and hydrating primer underneath. I'm combo-dry and also Not sure about the oil control of this because it doesn't say anything about controlling oil.
+Maybe 1911 yeah in their website they said the Serum Foundation is more suitable for dry skin, or someonw who's looking for more dewy/glowy look. You can still use matte foundation (i know many people with dry skin who loves matte look and despise dewy/glowy look) by adding a drop of your avorite facial oil to your foundation before applying to your face, or even use facial oil before using foundation.
I've had two shades in the full coverage on order since April 29. I just received notice that it has shipped. I have never been so impatient to get an order. I will probably need to order again to get the right shade. I am most excited that you say it doesn't settle in lines and wrinkles.
It took several weeks for my order to be filled, but it was worth the wait. Serum foundation is just as you said, and the lighter color of the two I ordered is perfect as concealer. Thank you for turning me on to these.
Good review but I can't use this foundation - it made me break out! Coconut Alkanes is listed as the main ingredient at the very top with the highest concentration, which is highly comedogenic, i.e. it can clog pores. Consequently, it may actually make acne worse for some people. It is not recommended for those with very oily, acne prone skin. Make sure you read the ingredients before you put anything on your face! What works for some does not work for others, even if it's promoted by a highly respected make-up artist on UA-cam...
E. B. Agree. I wore the silicone primer for 3 days and I had more pimples in those 3 days than I did in 5 years. Definitely chucked that tube out as my skin hated it which is disappointing. Works on some but not all.
I have very sensitive skin and have started using their primer with NO reaction. If you go to www.skinsafeproducts.com , you can look up. Valuable website. The primer is TOP rated. Before I buy any cosmetic I check it out their first. BTW: I LOVE their primer. makes my face feel incredible, too.
Sophie Ortega I'm the same shade as you in EL double wear, and also NC25 in MAC, so based on Wayne's conversion chart, you'd probably be a 2.0N (if your skin tone is neutral), or 2.0Y/YG (if your skin tone is warmer)

I've been using it for about 5 months, in the colors 1.1N and 1.0NS. I have dry skin, and the only skin issues I have are a few places with hyper-pigmentation. Usually I have issues with other foundations sticking to dry patches and becoming very powdery-looking on my skin, but no problems with this one! It works well with the fluid primer that they sell, and also mixed with rosehip or argan oil for the extra dry days. Unless something better comes out, this is my favorite foundation.
I love Wayne and all of his advice. I love the ordinary skin care...you can not beat it. That being said, I read up on this foundation and couldn't wait. I'm an Estee double wear die hard and I will stay that way. Unfortunately, I purchased one of each formulation. The colors are very nice. They are,however, extremely thin and runny, I did a side by side using one formulation one each side of my face. I have decent skin. This coverage is sooo awful. My daughter seen my skin and said my skin looked worse than it ever had. It settled into every line and pore. It gave my skin texture😕 ABSOLUTELY the ugliest thing I've used. I am not saying it isn't lovely for some, but my skin hated it. I used it with primer. Without Primer and it made no difference. It transfers and sits on top of your face. It is quite inexpensive so I tossed mine into the trash. The only positive things I can say about it is it doesn't oxidize and Wayne likes it. Stick with their skin care.
Whatever Haley I used it on my skin and from my own personal experience, I can say that it unfortunately is not for oily skin. It contains Coconut Alkanes with can break out the skin and cause further acne. It doesn't set well and it was moving all over the place on my face. Also by the end of the day, my makeup was melting like a chocolate ice cream cone lol. I knew it was too good to be true lol. But it may work for you! I have combination skin so I get super oily as well and the foundation just did not sit well with me.
As an former Lancome employee, yes it's always good to try new products. Especially if they are just as good as the high end products. Of course I will be buying? I'm glad I saw this, you are great!💜
Hey Wayne, I'm not familiar with MAC's shades, so which shade of the Ordinary foundation do you think would work for light olive skin with very yellow undertones? Also, could you do a video on the best drugstore foundations for light olive skin? It seems like every video I find that talks about olive skin only addresses medium or darker shades, so I'm still spending a fortune on trial and error trying to find a light enough shade that isn't too pink and everything I find that has warm undertones is too orange and too dark. Thirdly, do you know if Ordinary be available in stores or only online?

I really want to try this foundation out but I'm not sure which one or if both are best for my combination skin I get oily a bit just on and around my nose and the bottom of my T-zone area but the rest of my skin is dry especially on my forehead and in between my eyebrows 😅 ? My experience on The Ordinary website was great! I was surprised to see that they didn't just post the conversion rate from US or UK to CAD. I got the same price! I was able to buy the foundation, primer and shipping + GST for $17.63. I got two products for LESS than the price of one drugstore foundation from l'oreal or revlon. If this product turns out to be amazing, I will definitely keep purchasing.
I brought the cover foundation and primer which was horrible on my face as I have oily skin it was separating and just looked horrible so gave them to my daughter and looks lovely on her as she has normal skin just thought I'd let the oily people of the world know it's not great for us
Just a suggestion but I would buy the Hyaluronic Acid serum and simple put a few drops of it in my regular foundation. That might work. Hey! Just a warning, I have oily skin so my skin can take new products w/o any bad reaction. I use the “Buffet” serum for morning skincare routine, and Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% serum and Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate 10% for nighttime routine. I mix their organic rose hip seed oil sometimes at night time if I want extra moisture for my skin. I've been using these for a month now and there has been a huge change in my skin. Good luck :) Though, I'd still suggest you do some research on The Ordinary products beforhand

They do seem to be flexible in how they wear, shade wise. I got one I assumed would be too dark, and one very pale, figuring I could mix as needed (the darker one I chose bc it's a "highlight" shade). In fact, all 3 look pretty wearable on, and that really surprised me.

I just got my Coverage Foundation and holy shhhht!!! This foundation is bomb. Took 5days to ship but it's super worth the wait! Medium to full coverage but is so lightweight. I didn't like the Serum foundation that much because I'm oily skin. I think the Serum Foundation is best for those with dry to normal skin. BUT OMG 6.9 for the Coverage Foundation!! Literally the best 6.9 I spent for makeup!

OMG I have meaning to buy these. Thank you for the MAC reference guide - smart and helpful. Decium is from my hometown and I love it - think the English appreciate it more than the Canadians. I spoke with a Decium employee who said that the fact the whole process - labs, manufacturing, packaging, storing, etc.. is all in-house (plus no pricey packaging/ advertising) helps them keep prices low. They are also constantly update formulas - some companies are still using formulas from 20 years ago! I think (and hope) Decium will change the beauty industry - beauty should be accessable!

+Ivette Farias Hi Ivette, yes you are correct. My all time HG drugstore high-coverage foundation is L'oreal Pro Matte Infallible 24H in shade 101 Classic Ivory, it's $12ish. And now that The Ordinary releases $6 foundation that even Wayne Goss praise to the high heaven makes me feel like I'm spending too much money on my $12 foundation when I can get a great foundation at $6.
Of course I have tried some below-$5 foundations too (such as Wet n Wild foundations) and while they cater to pale skin, i found that the coverage and lasting power is still inferior to L'oreal Pro Matte Infallible. Hopefully The Ordinary's $6 can trump the Infallible one so we all get to spend even less for makeup :-) (more $$$ for skincare products, yeay!)
Your MAC reference guide was spot on. I ordered both foundations and the color was perfect. You are correct the foundations are smooth and glide on and feel high end.

This is the best makeup I have ever had! The serum is the best I'm 62 and have good skin however I get so many compliments on this makeup and my skin! Just ordered 3 shades use light pink under eyes and 2,0 neutral along with the yellow gold! Finish is amazing hope they don't go out of business ordering about 6 more!!!

Allison T Hi, there. I'd personally try to match your shade and olive tones as I suspect your pink may be more flushing than a true undertone. Of course, I can't see you to be certain, but I've seen that in others (clients), and even in myself!
Since you mention having olive tones, the shades with Y for yellow will probably work nicely. There's even a couple with built in illumination, noted as YG (yellow gold).
However, I read Deciem say that they'd be introducing separate highlight/illumination products soon enough!!! just wanted to mention... ;)

It was really informative and let me know exactly what I needed to buy and what I didn't.
Imbhind7proxies unfortunately, Stephanie Nikole has a thing about higher end brands... I don't think she wants to give less expensive brands a chance. My dermatologist loves quite a few of their acid solutions - specifically for dry or hormonal skin
I agree she doesn't seem to have much time for lower end brands, she clearly loves her expensive stuff. I must say though, I thought she gave a rather objective and comprehensive review of The Ordinary. I really appreciated how she tells you exactly what each item is supposed to do and what you need to mix, what skin type certain things are for ect..

Dearest Wayne, you said "there is something for everybody" regarding shades..please tell me...do they make any green-toned shades for olive skin? No matter how incredible a foundation is, I cannot wear it if it is peachy, pink, or orange-toned (like most foundations are sadly). it will look like a bright pink or orange mask on my light green-toned skin ... I realized a while ago that by adding a green corrector (teeny tiny bit) to a regular foundation, it magically matched me better. I figured it was correcting redness in my skin. Took me years to realize that I am a "green" person :)

Thanks for all the suggestions - I simply wanted to know if the line has any olive-toned shades, which it does not seem to.. :( I have the Make Up For Ever BLUE drops that I add to yellowy- orange-based foundations. The blue neutralizes the orange and also mixes with the yellow to make green. It works better than using green concealers, I have found, and doesn't alter the finish. It is just discouraging that so few brands seem to make foundations in our green shades so we have to resort to mixing. We seem to be really left out! The few brands that do use green tones have only a few olive shades that won't work for all skin depths of olive. I hope one day that will change :)

So I finally tried out the foundations! Wayne is right, really good quality for its price. I prefer serum foundation to full coverage foundation. I prefer sheer, natural glow. 2.0N is great on Asian skin, really brightening without being too white. Thanks for introducing it to us!
Bummer, it contains an ingredient I'm allergic to. They look and sound amazing. Trust me it has been quite difficult finding a brand and shade that dos not contain propylene glycol, dipropylene glycol, or ppg which is the exact same ingredient.

I was SO excited to get my package in the mail. It took a month. I ordered 3 coverage foundations and the primer. I HATE it. It's quite possibly the worst foundation I've ever put on my face. I used a beauty blender. My pores and fine lines are screaming LOOK AT ME! It's patchy. I ordered neutral well I look yellow. I don't know if they got so many orders that they just threw a formal together and sent it out but I'm pretty pissed. It's TERRIBLE.
Happy to say that I just placed a HUGE order, they are all in stock today (sat 29th April)

I think it's just gonna give us colours like its name, hydration must be addressed from your moisturizer and hydrating primer underneath. I'm combo-dry and also Not sure about the oil control of this because it doesn't say anything about controlling oil.

+Maybe 1911 yeah in their website they said the Serum Foundation is more suitable for dry skin, or someonw who's looking for more dewy/glowy look. You can still use matte foundation (i know many people with dry skin who loves matte look and despise dewy/glowy look) by adding a drop of your avorite facial oil to your foundation before applying to your face, or even use facial oil before using foundation.

I've had two shades in the full coverage on order since April 29. I just received notice that it has shipped. I have never been so impatient to get an order. I will probably need to order again to get the right shade. I am most excited that you say it doesn't settle in lines and wrinkles.
It took several weeks for my order to be filled, but it was worth the wait. Serum foundation is just as you said, and the lighter color of the two I ordered is perfect as concealer. Thank you for turning me on to these.

Good review but I can't use this foundation - it made me break out! Coconut Alkanes is listed as the main ingredient at the very top with the highest concentration, which is highly comedogenic, i.e. it can clog pores. Consequently, it may actually make acne worse for some people. It is not recommended for those with very oily, acne prone skin. Make sure you read the ingredients before you put anything on your face! What works for some does not work for others, even if it's promoted by a highly respected make-up artist on UA-cam...
E. B. Agree. I wore the silicone primer for 3 days and I had more pimples in those 3 days than I did in 5 years. Definitely chucked that tube out as my skin hated it which is disappointing. Works on some but not all.

I have very sensitive skin and have started using their primer with NO reaction. If you go to www.skinsafeproducts.com , you can look up. Valuable website. The primer is TOP rated. Before I buy any cosmetic I check it out their first. BTW: I LOVE their primer. makes my face feel incredible, too.

Sophie Ortega I'm the same shade as you in EL double wear, and also NC25 in MAC, so based on Wayne's conversion chart, you'd probably be a 2.0N (if your skin tone is neutral), or 2.0Y/YG (if your skin tone is warmer)

does it work well on dry patches? :)
I've been using it for about 5 months, in the colors 1.1N and 1.0NS. I have dry skin, and the only skin issues I have are a few places with hyper-pigmentation. Usually I have issues with other foundations sticking to dry patches and becoming very powdery-looking on my skin, but no problems with this one! It works well with the fluid primer that they sell, and also mixed with rosehip or argan oil for the extra dry days. Unless something better comes out, this is my favorite foundation.
I love Wayne and all of his advice. I love the ordinary skin care...you can not beat it. That being said, I read up on this foundation and couldn't wait. I'm an Estee double wear die hard and I will stay that way. Unfortunately, I purchased one of each formulation. The colors are very nice. They are,however, extremely thin and runny, I did a side by side using one formulation one each side of my face. I have decent skin. This coverage is sooo awful. My daughter seen my skin and said my skin looked worse than it ever had. It settled into every line and pore. It gave my skin texture😕
ABSOLUTELY the ugliest thing I've used.
I am not saying it isn't lovely for some, but my skin hated it. I used it with primer. Without Primer and it made no difference. It transfers and sits on top of your face. It is quite inexpensive so I tossed mine into the trash. The only positive things I can say about it is it doesn't oxidize and Wayne likes it. Stick with their skin care.

Whatever Haley I used it on my skin and from my own personal experience, I can say that it unfortunately is not for oily skin. It contains Coconut Alkanes with can break out the skin and cause further acne. It doesn't set well and it was moving all over the place on my face. Also by the end of the day, my makeup was melting like a chocolate ice cream cone lol. I knew it was too good to be true lol. But it may work for you! I have combination skin so I get super oily as well and the foundation just did not sit well with me.

Hey Wayne, I'm not familiar with MAC's shades, so which shade of the Ordinary foundation do you think would work for light olive skin with very yellow undertones? Also, could you do a video on the best drugstore foundations for light olive skin? It seems like every video I find that talks about olive skin only addresses medium or darker shades, so I'm still spending a fortune on trial and error trying to find a light enough shade that isn't too pink and everything I find that has warm undertones is too orange and too dark. Thirdly, do you know if Ordinary be available in stores or only online?

I really want to try this foundation out but I'm not sure which one or if both are best for my combination skin I get oily a bit just on and around my nose and the bottom of my T-zone area but the rest of my skin is dry especially on my forehead and in between my eyebrows 😅 ? Any reference would help thanks !
Using an oil-control/matte primer in your oily areas should do the trick.

My experience on The Ordinary website was great! I was surprised to see that they didn't just post the conversion rate from US or UK to CAD. I got the same price! I was able to buy the foundation, primer and shipping + GST for $17.63. I got two products for LESS than the price of one drugstore foundation from l'oreal or revlon. If this product turns out to be amazing, I will definitely keep purchasing.
I brought the cover foundation and primer which was horrible on my face as I have oily skin it was separating and just looked horrible so gave them to my daughter and looks lovely on her as she has normal skin just thought I'd let the oily people of the world know it's not great for us
Just a suggestion but I would buy the Hyaluronic Acid serum and simple put a few drops of it in my regular foundation. That might work.
