In this tutorial, Joe at Cableguys shows you how to create retro lo-fi tape/vinyl vibes, layer drums, and design creative textures with NoiseShaper: the dynamic noise designer for ShaperBox 2 (VST/AU/AAX).
With noise samples from sound designers BT, Cyclick and InsideInfo, NoiseShaper generates dynamic noise that reacts to your beat, lo-fi/vinyl/tape textures that breathe, pumping organic ambience, rhythmic noise patterns, and more.
Running inside Cableguys' ShaperBox 2 effects plugin, use NoiseShaper on its own or with other Shapers. Compatible with Ableton Live, FL Studio, Logic Pro, Cubase, Pro Tools, Studio One, Bitwig Studio, Reaper, and more PC/Mac DAWs.

🤔 WHAT IS SHAPERBOX?
ShaperBox 2 (PC/Mac, VST/AU/AAX) is a flexible effects rack for precision mixing and creative sound design. It contains 8 powerful effects called Shapers - place them in any order to create an endless array of effects.
Each Shaper’s effect is controlled by an editable LFO - using Cableguys’ easy editing tools, you can quickly design LFOs of any complexity, combining straight lines and smooth curves.

The love just grows...! :)
ahhh, nice to see u here, Legend! People always confuse us. May be it's beard )))
🙌🙌🙌
Any new versions of Sandstorm?
Couldn't agree with you more. Their plugins are amazing! :)
You guys take any effect to the next level. Respect! ✊🏻
👊💥 Thanks Frank!
such a game changing plugin... already obsessed with this.
🎮👾 Nice! What have you been using it on?
As a melody-oriented guy who doesn't like to spend hours on sound design, this is such a blessing for quick ear-candy toppings...gonna save a bit for this !
Amazing product! And as always very creative demonstration of possibilities!
Thanks Andi, hope it gets you inspired 😁
You guys do really good short and to-the-point tutorials. I've used your stuff on every track for years now. Thanks for all the hard work that goes into dreaming and building this stuff!
Thanks for the kind words! ❤️
Nice, new member of the family!!
Since i got ShaperBox about 4 years ago, its been my favorite and most used plugin ever. From simple tasks to deep sound design. 💗👏👏👏
So great to hear! We hope NoiseShaper inspires you :)
@@Cableguys Awesome!! Thank you (Cable)guys!! 😁
Love this FX !! Keep u the great work Cableguys! :)
Wow, this looks and sounds amazing! plenty of possibilities. You could imagine all kinds of tricks for example filtering frequencies from a drum loop (or whatever you want) and with side chaining submit a second noise source to NoiseShaper and merge the results. That would be thousands of textures for a universe of combinations.
I’m a fan of CG. And this made me happy ! Can’t wait to review and try this one out. 😎
Legit, you guys are always killin it. 🔥
Hell yeah! lookin sick so far
Another great addition to ShaperBox, I was using Noize by Denise audio but this will be my go to plugin now.
Nice! Interesting to see how it helps with mixing as well as creating and modifying sounds
Yes, it's great for subtle and creative mixing tweaks, as much as for crazy sound design! What have you been using it on, Eric?
@@Cableguys yes! I've been using it as a filler for some sounds, to make them thicker and also as a creative effect!
@@erickauffmann_official hola capo
love love love. LOVE.
Awesome, perfect for modern production
We have a winner folks! Another one from the 'guys.
Fantastic. What could be next? ReverbShaper..?
There's no other plugin like this out there! You guys did it! Imagine the sound design possibilities!!!
There's another one that's similar, not saying this isn't dope but worth mentioning. It's made by Devious Machines
@@EchoSoundWorks 100%. love Cableguys, but if you're a Logic user and need MIDI-triggered sidechain, Devious Machines Duck is the way to go. It's very puzzling to me that the Cableguys stuff still requires convoluted IAC bus routing this many years later ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Quality stuff as always!
🔥🔥🔥
That LFO mode is dope!
Realy nice
awesome pluginnnnn
Definitely gonna add this to my box!
(THATS WHAT SHE SAID!)
yesss!
Just checked your Live at Mormon Rocks. It ROCKS!
🙌🙌🙌
I'm not sure which is more excited... The mix engineer in me or the producer?!
Really wish I would've gotten this before RC20
Dan Worral imposter!
I've been fighting all my life to get noise out of music, even back in the 80's when I worked for major studios.
Here, people are putting noise into their music 🤷♂️🤦♂️ I don't get it. ---- I am still a huge fan of CableGuys... 😎👍
Anxiously waiting for a reverb/delay shaper 😔
It's called side-chaining. You don't need a plugin for that.
Nice plugin!
Quick question btw : When I load my own noise there is a weird rhythm issue, the sample is playing at a different starting position each time and it plays as a loop but I load an individual noise one shot sample :(
Hi! That's correct: NoiseShaper uses looping sustained noise, not one-shots. Even the drums and cymbals work like this - they are sustained drum "bodies" rather than one-shot samples. Here is a how-to that also contains some best practices for using your own noise samples: www.cableguys.com/load-your-own-samples-in-noiseshaper.html
hell yeah
so its like Texture by Devious Machines but limited to noise only samples? Texture also adds hats, vocals, or your own samples if I am not mistaken.
You can use your own samples in NoiseShaper 👍 Place them in a certain folder, then they will appear in NoiseShaper's menu. The PDF manual explains how: www.cableguys.com/shaperbox-tutorials.html
@@Cableguys genius !
@@Cableguys Nice!! so its like Texture by Devious Machines but with a nicer interface...
Shaperbox definitely needs an internal lfo to modulate internal parameters like for example the envelope time… that’s the only thing that I can wish for, otherwise great plugin!
dope
Love noiseshaper so far, but there seems to be a problem with disappearing factory noises, and no info in manual on where they should be located and how to bring them back.
Uh, that's strange if factory noises disappear. Could you drop us an email to contact@cableguys.com and we'll find out what's going on?
so is this a free update to shaperbox 2 or is it something to be prchased as extra? My lic file isnt unlocking it for me.
It's not a free Shaper, but there is an intro offer for buying NoiseShaper on its own *and* intro upgrade pricing if you already own some Shapers. So log in to your account to see your upgrade deal 👍
is there any reason why my downloaded / activated version only gives me 1 noise oscillator (white noise) the rest are grey and wont let me select anything else other than white noise or off.....
This can happen if the initial noise download was interrupted for some reason. Please go the the Library (click on the preset name at the bottom of ShaperBox), then click the big "Sync" button at the top right. This should then download all noises. Drop us an email to contact@cableguys.com should this still not work.
Can you use a Tom in NoiseShaper??? in your custom samples...... basically to add a tom under a sound...or the algorithm is not good for that kind of sounds? as I can not make it work with toms but yest with other custom samples
We recommend to load only looping, sustained noise samples. If you load a one-shot tom sample, it will loop continuously, so will sound out of time with your input signal. See our how-to and recommendations here: www.cableguys.com/load-your-own-samples-in-noiseshaper.html 👍
@@Cableguys thank u
looks great! the ability to load own samples is awesome! fits great into the shaperbox environment imho.
You can't load your own samples...
@@tomahawk5712 1:46
@@ChR_is Ah great, thanks Christian. I missed that part, sorry.
@@tomahawk5712 For detais on how to load your samples, check the NoiseShaper section in the PDF manual on www.cableguys.com/shaperbox-tutorials.html
Whelp, probably need this… can you change the pitch of the noises? (Sorry if I missed that, I did watch the whole video…)
There is no pitch control, and the factory library designed not to need this kind of adjustment, ie, there are no heavy tonal elements that would clash with your music.
@@Cableguys I’m not really concerned with noises clashing, I just would like to be able to adjust that aspect of the sound. (I can do that in Serum. 🤷🏻♂️) Still stoked for this, though!
You guys should definitely try developing something pitch related. I know that time shaper kinda does it but I mean something a bit more dedicated
Thanks for the suggestion!
Guys ! :) Please make posibility to add own noise samples into it :) Thanks :)
You can! For details on how to load your samples, check the NoiseShaper section in the PDF manual on www.cableguys.com/shaperbox-tutorials
Is this in shaoerbox 3?
Yes, NoiseShaper is in ShaperBox 3, and has even more noises (we just added new drum/cymbal textures), Pitch control, audio trigger, and other improvements.
I'm sorry. We can put in our OWN samples? How could you skip that in the tutorial??
Unfortunately new native M1 version on Mac mini M1 is very laggy. In Bitwig M1 version. Not the sound though. Just UI is slow and mouse adjustments very hard to do. Bummer.
Sorry to hear you ran into this! In testing, ShaperBox has worked awesomely smooth on our MBP M1, but we'll check on Mac mini too and figure out what’s happening here. Ahhh... wait a moment, one idea: Could it be that Bitwig is running the Rosetta version of ShaperBox, instead of the M1 one? Maybe it has cached that the previous version had no M1 support..?
@@Cableguys Please 🙏. Also if 2 UI are open all the moving things like waveform and transport like line and up down line in frequency splitter pretty much unusable due to time lag 🤷
Stop using Crapple fanboy! Get a WINdows pc instead. No issues ever! 😄
@@BruteWillis Shall I show you direction where to go or you have been there many times and find the way yourself?
@@vroteg?
¿es gratis? :/
Is the noise sample based or generated?
It's sample-based, ie, real recordings of vinyl, cassette, real-world field recordings, modular synths, vintage gear, etc. The sole exception is the white noise, which is generated, as there is no advantage to using a sample here.
@@Cableguys
Thanks. Just got the full bundle. 👍🏽
@@bengsynthmusic Awesome! We hope it brings you plenty of inspiration 😊
🙋🏻♂️🇲🇽
nice!
i already uploaded a preset. would be nice if you could import own samples. also, please add more voice-noises (whispering etc.)
You can add your own samples 😉 You just need to put them in a certain folder, then they will appear in NoiseShaper's menu. The PDF manual explains how: www.cableguys.com/shaperbox-tutorials.html
@@Cableguys very good information. thanks!
here it comes did you see it 666hz 06:19
Infiltrator >shaperbox 2
looks like your running out of colours
We're having two great colours left for future Shapers. Afterwards it will be very difficult.. But yeah, I see what you're meaning, NoiseShaper colour got a bit too close to FilterShaper Core colour, hmm?
@@Cableguys try earth tones and pastel colours. also try out white?
