    The biggest thought throughout this whole video, was that this house would be damn near perfect in a zombie apocalypse. Easy to defend, very good location, even the gardens are walled in all around along with good viewpoints pretty much at any angle on the building, and the layout seems really good to defend as well in case something gets in. And even though it’s big, it’s not too big to the point it would be hard to defend, it’s just about the right size, while also leaving plenty of space for whatever you need, and has good places for agriculture to grow your food. Not like most expensive buildings in most countries that would be absolutely horrible in a zombie apocalypse

      @@guessit5036 there was. Tho the house in HOTD were a lot more fortified, a little smaller I think, and a much worse location. In that house pretty much nothing would be able to get in, but you also wouldn’t really be able to leave, and I don’t think it anywhere good to grow your food. Here something breaking in could be a threat(tho an unlikely one), but the location is pristine with too little of a population around it for that to actually happen, compared to HOTD that were right in the middle of a highly populated area

    Oh I really like the conversation about Japanese-English translation. Part of why I’m learning Japanese now is because I found out that a lot of my favorite Japanese series can end up being completely butchered when translated, either by bad localization or just because there isn’t a good English equivalent.

    • @Bobbias
      @Bobbias 2 роки тому +11

      I've been slowly picking up Japanese over the years specifically because it helps understand the subtleties in the original script. It's certainly a hard language, but that feeling when you realize you understood something that just can't be translated is wonderful.

    • @HouseMDaddict
      @HouseMDaddict 2 роки тому +5

      I'm only about a year of solid slow study because I work a lot (I've picked up stuff throughout the years since high school but just basics) but I just watched the series noragami again and there's a part where one character says "see you later" according to the English translation in subtitles, but in Japanese they actually said something along the lines of "get home safely". COMPLETELY different meaning. I was able to pick up on a lot of "shortcuts" in the English subtitles, which definitely cheapen the significance of the Japanese being said. I mean, I get it because they're making it easy for the audience to follow, but now that I've been immersed in the culture behind the language and why/when certain words and phrases are used, I find I have a richer understanding of the message being conveyed between characters. I'm not really into much of the mainstream anime anymore (it's pretty repetitive nowadays) but I'm getting good at reading Japanese news articles and books and stuff (with help of course) and I find I'm picking more cultural things up as I read. It's very cool!

    • @LENZ5369
      @LENZ5369 2 роки тому +8

      When you translate from any language to another, there is always loss of cultural context and subtlety (including EN-JAP).
      Good translations that try to account for it and/or the listener becoming more familiar with the language/culture can help but you can probably never fully compensate.
      It's the difference between being a 'native' speaker and being 'fluent'.

    • @zerohbeat
      @zerohbeat 2 роки тому +2

      To be fair Japanese to English translations have been improving over time... Some light novels have really impressed me. Some dubbed anime is done well enough.
      The only reason I started to learn Japanese years ago was to be able to read my favourite series as they had no translations. These days a lot gets translated well enough, its really cool to see.

    • @humanbean3
      @humanbean3 2 роки тому +3

      it's basically a game of whether you want to try to be literal or take liberty and find an english "feeling" equivalent. dont hate on translators unless you're completely fluent yourself my friends. the more fluent you get you'll realize it's rare to find someone who does a flatout bad job.

    I’ve been a fan of Hajime for 10 years. But what he was saying about the Japanese and English languages, I totally agree, as someone who’s been studying Japanese for a long time, I prefer to speak or read in Japanese because I feel like I can express myself more freely. I try explaining this to my family but they don’t really get it lol
    I really love the Japanese language and culture, even though it’s not my first language, I feel more comfortable with it in a way. Even when I’m all alone talking to myself, I always speak in Japanese. For practice and because I love it.

      I also remember him saying that adding subs to every video would be a pain in the butt, although I personally wouldn't mind because I already watch Japanese youtubers who just add the occasional "transcripts" on the video, so if he did that, I think it would much more helpful for someone learning Japanese, because that way they can "track the sentence" (if that makes any sense) and learn how certain words are written and pronounced....
      But that might just be my own method of learning, and might not necessarily work for everyone else.

    おすすめに出てきたので観てみました。本当に素晴らしい動画をありがとうございます!!
    アニメ関係の話ですが、はじめしゃちょーも言っていたように日本語は他の言語に比べると難しすぎます。どうしても、日本人と外国の方との理解は異なってしまいます。ですがそれは悪いことではありません。
    私は約1年前から海外に留学していry高校1年生ですが全く英語が分からず、本当に辛い思いをして何度も日本の高校生になりたいと弱音をはいていました。ですが唯一、クラスメイトとできた話の内容が「アニメ」でした。日本人が1人しかいない学校なので日本人というだけで話しかけてくれる事もありました。
    私の学校ではほとんどの生徒がアニメを観ています。特に、NARUTOやAttack On Titan、Jujutsu Kaisen、 Demon Slayer は異次元の人気を誇っています。日本人として本当に嬉しいことです。
    日本では毎週アニメが1話放送されるのは常識ですが、こちらの人達はそのシーズンが完結してから全話観る人や、「去年からアニメ観始めてる!」と1つの趣味になっている人が沢山います。
    そして、日本の学校に通ってみたいという人や日本を訪れて見たい人もたっくさんいます。
    ですが悲しいことに最近の日本では、世界中がすでにグローバル化しているのに外国からの観光客を嫌がる人が一定数います。
    在日の外国人が事件を起こすと、「これだから外国人は」と、外国人を一括りにしています。
    こっちに来たから、日本は本当に世界中から愛されてるんだなと肌で感じました。日本人と言うだけで、すごく興味津々で質問をしてくれる人や、日本に行ったことのある人は思い出を話してくれます。
    私の将来の夢は、外国の人達が安心して日本に来られたり、もっと大好きな日本のことを知ってもらうことです。そのためには日本語も英語も話せないと始まらないと考えています。
    最近は翻訳機能もすごく進化していて、10年後ぐらいには全く違う言語でも誤差がなく話せる時代が来るのではないかと思っています。
    ですが、やはり外国の方とコミュニケーションを取り合うなら相手の方の言語に合わせた方が話しやすいともいます。これらを目標に英語を勉強しています。
    そして私は日本の英語教育の方針も帰るべきだと感じています。日本はG7にも加盟している先進国です。ですが、世界の英語が第二言語になっている国の言語力ランキングで日本は70位より下にいるのが現実です。
    公立の小・中学校の英語という科目はなぜか受験勉強のため、「偏差値」高い学校に入るための科目になってしまっています。問題文、それに教科書更にはテスト用紙まで日本語になってしまうと話すための英語ではなくなってしまいます。
    まだ時間はかかると思いますが、私はもっと日本のことを知ってもらい、日本の事を好きになってくれるように努力します!!

      With full respect to Hajime who seems very talented and had many interesting points, I think he's viewing English's expressiveness from his shallow understanding of it and unfairly comparing it to a language he's super proficient in. The example he gave about the many ways of saying "I" in Japanese is true, but it's also the one I hear most often when talking about Japanese expressiveness, and it's not something that applies equally to the entire language. You could just as easily pick an example of an area where English is super expressive and Japanese isn't so much. Every language has its subtleties that can't be translated 1-to-1 into other languages and that make them rich, but you can't really appreciate them until you're truly proficient in that language.
      English is my second language, and I remember a time when I too felt that English lacked expressiveness compared to Spanish, but I was falling for the same trap Hajime fell for, I now know that both English and Spanish have their own strengths and weaknesses in different places.
      Edit: for the record, and since a troll below has been making false accusations about me, I do speak Japanese, I live in Japan and use the language daily. I also believe it's an incredibly rich and expressive language, and my comments above shouldn't be interpreted as saying otherwise.

      English is a totally expressive language.
      We have tons of commonly used synonyms for base words compared to Japanese. We have all kinds of intonation for words which can change the meaning of them, which Japanese doesn't have as much (and that makes sense culturally speaking because the nuances of intonation can be malicious too (think sarcasm)). We have lots of body language on the side. We're loud and very expressive people as well in public (at least in the US) we even compliment people publicly out of nowhere. lol we love metaphorical language in English too. (Think "Do you have a second / a minute?" And if you use that literally in JPN word-for-word, Japanese people will take it literally and not figuratively!) I think we're expressive enough 🤣

    You know it was quite interesting to hear him talk about the difference in languages and how expressive they are. I’ve been trying to learn Japanese for a while now and I’ve noticed a lot in anime translations to English that aren’t literal translations rather more expressive English words and phrases that match the meaning.

    This might actually be my favorite video in this channel and if Hajime does make an Anime channel, I'm just gonna hope for collabs.
    My favorite moments of the video (might add more later on)
    7:18 Hajime saying "I don't have friends"
    10:18 Joey asking for his "favorite"
    15:54 Joey's secret
    25:26 Hajime asking about channel name
    25:40 "The perfect answer"

      i hope im wrong but the guy was giving off strong vibes that he doesn't want to collab with Joey. stressing he doesn't have friends, not replying in kind to joey in the end about doing it again or whatever, also the reply about getting the execs of attack on titan or whatever.. reading the air/the vibes, just didn't feel like he'd be down for collabs.. i could be wrong tho! maybe they talked more off camera who knows.

      @@humanbean3 Well we're not really sure about anything, so we just have to wait, but who knows maybe they talked off camera.

    From studying Japanese I really undestand Hajime's point about Japanese being an expressive language. You can tell a lot just by how someone talks, more so than in English.

    I didn't know if hajime before this video but he seems amazing! I also loved hearing Joey speak in casual Japanese for once, since he's usually only ever used Japanese formally when interviewing store owners and stuff. He seemed very relaxed in your presence joey and I'd love to see a Collab with you guys!!!

    As someone who came by Hajime's youtube before, i really do wish his videos were subbed even other japanese channel sometimes has subs, but that doesn't mean his content is less interesting. its also very enjoyable without it. Thanks for this collabo and giving us the insight of japanese youtube space.

    This is honestly really interesting, learning about the japanese side of youtube. You definitely have to collab with more japanese creators. I'm surprised you hadn't sooner, honestly.
