I'm getting anxious at that part 😭
*Zooms in on Tyson taking a quick sip of water*
its nice knowing you Anime Man
My first thought was he can be scary if he wants. Then he asks "want me to scare you?" 🤣
Literally this gave me anxiety hahaha
Joey risk his life to ask that question
This guy just oozes the whole "If you respect me, i'll respect you" kind of vibe. I love how straight he was , no bullsh*t in those words at all. Great vid!
Agree, while he was stern a few times with reprimands he was always respectful and actually seemd like a pretty cool guy imo
Yakuza are not really a mafia or gang or cartel in the sense of any others in the world. Be it Hacienda, MS-13, Italian families, Triads. They have vastly more dignity and respect. Like he said, bend the strong and help the weak. They keep order where the government was or is too lazy to. It's a fucking shame how the government got corrupt as hell and then went hyper-authoritarian to snuff them out. Meanwhile, politicians and businessmen have made themselves rich off corruption. In many ways they seem to be the last holdout of those values that once made Japan great.
Don't forget, The Hawkers hired the Yakuza because the government couldn't be assed to. So don't you ever lump them in with any other shitbag mafia, cartel, or gang.

The Yakuza member is actually such a good example of showing how to get straight answers from people. I used one of the methods today (restating what we are talking about and respectfully telling the person to stay on topic) and it fricken worked!!
"I find yakuza lingo cool!"
"No you dont."
"No i dont."
he did raise a very valid point though. when using words like that’s cool you do impose that standard onto others and without consent. That might sound a bit much but the point being if you’re gonna say that then also be ready to defend that point. Ppl dont always like to be seen as “cool” when they’d rather just be appreciated. Also some of these terms aren’t supposed to be “cool”, theyre about respect or clarity. Also in Japan you’re supposed to turn down compliments anyways

It's called a reverse interview
@Costa Rican Sportsfan so embarrassing..
He probably should have tried to behave a little more courteously; courtesy in formal occasions was physically beaten into yakuza.
For me those things were the scariest parts of the interview XDDD I guess he was... being polite and nice, but still... ohmy XD
Love that every time anime man lied or falsely led a question he was immediately called out. Mad respect for getting the interview and especially for doing it. Hahaha. Yeah i would assume joey just didnt use the right term haha. I think what he means is that the guy looks like an average person which i can see but more than half of this video i am intimidated with the guy.
It was a pretty significant blunder, one the guy didn't appreciate. Your ability to strike fear and intimidate others is basically your first line of defense when you're dealing in less savory circles. That's why his instant response was 'Would you like me to scare you?', just to drive the message home he's not dealing with an ordinary citizen. There wasn't much missing, if Joey laughed a bit too confidently or seemed truly like 'hey man, this guy ain't that scary at all', I'm pretty sure the Yakuza dude would've taken him for a short trip down memory lane.

He could be helping Joey mannerisms in Japan, and especially to his elders.
Yakuza are definitely very critical about how you carry yourself, respect yourself and others, and to keep your name regardered highly. The major line between the bosozoku and small time thugs vs carrying the title of Yakuza, no matter or high or low you are, is presentation. Your clothes, your body language, your mannerisms. @@Skyro. You clearly don't understand the mentality people have that come from that walk of life. He 100 percent would've slapped the shit out of Joey if he became disrespectful. And he was not asking for anything that was out of the ordinary. He introduced himself with his full name, Joey didn't. He kept an open, inviting body language, Joey decided to cross his arms mid conversation. Joey tried to flex with some 'Yakuza language lingo' knowledge, and the dude reminded him that he doesn't know shit about their encoded language. Joey made statements along the lines of 'You're not that scary', and he got checked for that aswell.
People with your mentality are precisely the people that catch beatings they don't need to catch because they're kind of daft in the social department.
This interview was especially interesting to watch because of the shifting social dynamic. Joey was visibly nervous, moreso than any of the other videos I've seen. His body language totally reading fear and worry, hand placement, the glasses...lol. Former-yakuza man was looking at him like he was weird af 🤣 then Joey starts testing the waters, smoothing out the apron to fidget, eventually attempting to self-soothe with telling the guy he isn't intimidating and holding himself (crossing arms) and poor former-yakuza is just like "hey! remember you're WORKING rn! Pls remember respect!" 🙏 it was probably a little...to tell a guy who used to beat people up that he wasn't intimidating 😬🤣 this man seems like a very respectable and intelligent man, seems eloquent and aware and attentive as well. It was very kind of him to take part!
Tyson: What's your name?
Joey: It's Tatsu
Tyson: wha-
Joey: The Immortal Tatsu
Tyson: You. Stop that.

@blue sword To be fair, this guy just about killed a rapist. Maybe we don’t wanna piss him off.
Nah, too far from that. Tyson was just asking for respect and he was straight forward about that but never aggressive. During all the interview Tyson was a reasonable and humble man at least from my perspective.
@@azuroslazuli6948 Wouldn’t it be the opposite? Considering he beat up a rapist, which is a good thing.

"I seriously think yakuza lingo is cool"
10 seconds later - "I don't think that"
I'm so impressed how slick and seemingly easy tyson saw through the lie - and it oddly shows more the truth behind being a social media person, all lies to get clicks.
@@CptBlaueWolke you also realize how fucking nervous he is, he most likely "came up" with that on the spot and though it was a good question even though he maybe wasnt really honest.
@@CookiesCatbug when I'm fucking nervous, the least thing i do is lying.. if anything, an uncovered lie can escalate things.
I don't understand why he asks everything from his perspective? He could ask questions objectively, like "there are people that think yakuza lingo is cool" instead of lying ;)
To add more impact, Joey actually said "to be completely honest, i think yakuza lingo is super cool." which really adds to the punch when he admitted he didnt really think the lingo was cool.

It's not just the name, it's the part where Joey said he likes Yakuza slang but Tyson grills him and makes him admit he doesn't know many. Tyson is a human bullshit detector. He would make it in any rough neighborhood in the civilized world.
@@thaloh It's pretty obvious though... You're going to someone because you know very little about something, proceeds to say something about thing you know very little about is cool. One question was all it took to figure that out and it's done. Most people can do this. Most people should also be a little bit more ciritical about the stuff people are saying to them as well though.
Mistakes are to be expected when you are inexperienced. That said, I don't blame Joey for the ones he made in this interview. I wouldn't have been able to pick myself back up as quickly as he did each time he got told off or each time he smirked (which seemed rude) on the surface to cope with the feeling or surprise or shock he felt while interviewing such an intimidating guest. The fact that Joey said, to this man’s face, “You’re surprisingly ordinary,” to this scary as dude almost gave me a heart attack. I took one look at this dude and his mannerisms and I was freaked tf out, Tyson is a scary dude, polite, but terrifying.
He said futsuu, which is more like saying "normal." Doesn't have the negative connotation that ordinary has, I think.

"Everything in those games are exxagerated"
"There are some that'll punch you if you meet their eyes"
You have those even among common everyday strangers XD
They are all just humans, yakuza or katagi, at the bottom of theyre heart and mindset theyre humans. A yakuza tho would atleast try avoid having trouble with civilians and rather be organized about what they're doing. So probably higher chance to get stabbed or beaten up by a random dude.
I feel like most of those people wouldn't admit it but a lot of them are just so traumatised that they become like caged wounded animals, it's where the whole nurture over nature argument comes in. If you have only ever been communicated to in violence you only know that method of communication, so in gangs especially you have a culture that has historically perpetuated violence while operating under the guise of 'family' that is targeted towards lost and abused youth, this is where you see the 'charity' gangs that do good in the community because the government has long since lost its interest.
State and foster care seem to do little to abate these concerns with the rife sexual, physical and mental abuse toward children in an already unstable environment it is kind of hard not to expect groups that prey on peoples weaknesses to exist.
