Boz Scaggs has one of the most beautiful songs ever written, IMO. If you’d like a little different style of his, it’s “Love, Look What You’ve Done To Me” Gorgeous!
Yep. I've been listening to it for over 40 years. One of the first CD's I bought back in the day. His backing band got a record contract out of the recording of this album. They formed Toto.
This was clubbing music in my day. We called it bar hopping. In context with the times, The Elvin Bishop Group "Fooled Around and Fell in Love". I'll bet your dad dug this one too. Live version for your best experience. Or not. Both great.
So much alike! My Dad played all kinds of music so all five of us immediately start dancing or singing or both when the wide range of music he played pops up again. So sweet!
Like you, this song just warms me of memories of long drives with my parents while my little brother and I looked out the window at all the sights . This song is was on that soundtrack during those days in the late 70s early 80s .
The great Lou Shelton plays lead guitar on this track. Dig the high hat work in the mix. I was a kid when this song topped the charts. That flute riff set the song apart from the other songs on the radio right off the start. Smooth, very smooth.
Lowdown co-written by Scaggs and keyboardist David Paich of Toto fame. Paich was also the co-writer five ‘Silk Degrees’ songs including ‘What Can I Say’ and ‘Lowdown’. He also wrote ‘Love Me Tomorrow’. Jeff Porcaro of Toto was the drummer on Lowdown and Lido Shuffle. If you love Boz Scaggs, you will love Toto. :-)
I remember my roommate buying this album when it first came out. I was a bit of a rock 'n roll babe, so I poo-pooed it back then. Years later I listened to it again and was blown away. I'm glad I finally opened my mind and ears to Boz. Great songs! Try "Lido Shuffle".
Such an excellent piece of songwriting, & arrangement... I used to cover this in my last band, and it was a blast to see how people of all ages responded-- the dance floor would fill instantly..
ANYTHING off this album is gold....."Lido Shuffle" "What Can I Say" "it Over" "Jump Street" and the two fantastic ballad, Harbor Lights and Were All Alone!
We saw Boz Scaggs in concert about 8 years ago, on a double bill with Michael McDonald. Gotta say... although we were initially more excited about seeing Michael, in the end we both agreed that Boz's show was the better show. His backup singers, in particular, were fantastic. And we were sorta surprised at the number of really fantastic hits he had. (Note: I think the reason we were disappointed in Michael's show was because so many of the hits we were expecting to hear him perform were missing. My guess is that, because they are actually Doobie Brothers songs, maybe he was legally or contractually prohibited from performing them.)
HUGE HIT back in the day. This got a lot of R&B station radioplay during a period when music was still very much segregated. Great song! It won a Grammy for best R&B song in the mid 70's. He was the first white person to win that Grammy.
If you are a drummer you HAVE to love the bad a-- - grove the late great Jeff Porcaro lays down on this classic. The groove is deep enough to float an aircraft carrier
That's the boys from Toto backing Boz up. Jeff Porcaro & David Hungate rhythm-section is SAVAGE. David Paich, Toto keyboardist, wrote half the album Silk Degrees. Boz was about to be dropped by his record company so he holed-up for 2 months with Toto- his buddies; minus Steve Lukather, they worked for scale, and delivered a true masterpiece.
Another Toto connection. David Paich co-wrote Lowdown and he was pianist in Toto. The drummer was the late Jeff Porcaro another Toto member. Guitarist David Hungate (Toto).
I love this album- Big Fan! I got it as soon as it came out- it was not Disco- it was Blue Eyes Soul, but it fit in! He is very talented- he has evolved and played different styles over the years. He has been doing Jazz, the last time I recall- it sounded very good, he is up there in age- and still producing☺
It has a heavy disco influence. Many rock artists added a disco flavor to their music in that era. Much to the chagrin of die-hard rock fans. Plenty of it was really great stuff.❤
The Purrfection Version Series of music has three groups. The most popular of the three is the Disco Purrfection Version category but there was also Soul Purrfection and Purrfection Version which was usually dedicated to extended pop music. These versions were sold on 12" vinyl and played like an LP (long play record). One side could hold a song as long as 17 minutes long. An example would be Love To Love You Baby by Donna Summer which is 16:50 in length. There are very many Disco Purrfection hits from the 1970's when most of them were sold. If it is a disco or dance hit from the 70's, there is probably an extended version from which the single edit was cut.
The man laying down the groove is the late great Jeff Porcaro. A founding member of TOTO. One of the most in demand drummers in the late 70's until the time of his death. RIP Jeff!
The way Lido Shuffle comes out of that break down layering four keyboard riffs one at a time, alternating stereo sides each time, impresses me every time I listen.
If you get the chance to see him in concert, don’t hesitate. The last concert I went to before COVID lockdown was Boz Scaggs. I’ve seen him 7 times. I’m hoping to see him many more times when we get through this pandemic. To say I’m a fan would be putting it mildly. Check out his song It All Went Down The Drain.
Alternating the Silk Degrees and My Time albums, 1976, repainting the kitchen in my Pacific Beach duplex. Wonderful memory. Another favorite of mine from Boz Scaggs, Look What You've Done To Me, was featured in the movie Urban Cowboy. He'll always be in my Favorites playlist.
My gut tells me to twist your arm into listening to George Benson’s “On Broadway” from the Weekend In LA live album. Kinda want to see you do King Crimson’s “Elephant Talk” live in the tv show “Friday’s” sometime in the early 80s, too. The Boz Scaggs rabbit hole is pretty deep. Enjoy!
Hello Again Wilburn!! Absolutely enjoy watching your reactions and the Great music you're bringing to the table!! Trivia for you is that Boz Scaggs got his start with the Steve Miller Band in the early 70s!! As far as Lowdown, I love the groove of this one as I just started my Junior year in High School when released and still Love today!! If I may request a request, despite it not being Boz Scaggs BUT Think You'll Love it as it is a Song of UNITY in which is Desperately needed Today!! The Song is from the same era by Robert Palmer called "Every Kind Of People "!!! Great Song, Sound, Musicianship, And Vocals!! Thanks Again!!
Silk Degrees was his shinning star. Since you love live music you have to watch Boz Skaggs Greatest Hits Live concert dvd. Outstanding performances and musicianship. Recorded at The great American Music Hall in San Francisco in 2003.
Chod - Hands down the best decade for music - popular music of all kinds as you know by now - is the 1970's!!!!!!! There is no dispute. I lived through it, made some music myself, and lived to tell about it.
Another great song from the stellar Silk Degrees album. Whenever I listen to Boz Scaggas Silk Degrees I think of Philadelphia because it was when I was in college there I bought Silk Degrees. Same thing when I listen to Heart Dreamboat Annie - because that's when and where I heard them first. Great memories....
Always loved this whole album. Jeff Porcaro (the drummer on this song who would eventually form Toto with keyboardist David Paich) actually plays eighth notes on the hi-hat and then he overdubbed sixteenth notes. That’s why if you listen with headphones you can hear slower eighth notes in your right ear and faster sixteenth in your left. I Don’t Hear You and Jojo are other great ones from Boz Scaggs.
Please react to Harbor Lights and Lido Shuffle thanks. Met Boz in an elevator in the early 70's in an elevator in Philly at a small venue when he was married to Carmella..what a cool nice guy he is👍✌
Great album Silk Degrees. Your next from Boz should be Lido Shuffle. Such a soulful feelgood song. You'll probably have heard it before but drink it in properly with headphones and a groovy attitude and it'll make you smile. The glorious 70's huh? Man,were we spoiled or what?
There's a live version on this from the era with orchestra. It has Jeff Porcaro on drums and Les Dudek on guitar. It is in official channel under "Boz Scaggs - Lowdown"
Great job. By the way that's Porcaro of Toto on drums... Ps, you've got a little bit of buzz in your mic today. What a great classic tune such groove...Rock on. 🤘
Boz Scaggs has one of the most beautiful songs ever written, IMO. If you’d like a little different style of his, it’s “Love, Look What You’ve Done To Me” Gorgeous!
Pretty much every song on the "Silk Degrees" album is worth a listen.
Yep. I've been listening to it for over 40 years. One of the first CD's I bought back in the day. His backing band got a record contract out of the recording of this album. They formed Toto.
"LOWDOWN"
"LIDO SHUFFLE"
"JOJO"
"LOOK WHAT YOU'VE DONE TO ME"
@@dorothyparker8433
It is! I forgot that one. 👍🏽
And of course What Can I Say
Yes, Boz. Like no other place to be.
What Can l Say? 🙄 Another great song from Boz, it's got a Sunday morning feeling, very soulful. Lido Shuffle, Harbour Lights, two more great ones!
Boz Scaggs and Steve Miller are childhood friends and Boz played with Miller in several bands
This was clubbing music in my day. We called it bar hopping. In context with the times, The Elvin Bishop Group "Fooled Around and Fell in Love". I'll bet your dad dug this one too. Live version for your best experience. Or not. Both great.
Bozz was a Bad Ass ! The 70"s Kicked Ass ! I was 11 years old when this shit hit. I love good music , I don.t care what !
That studio band behind him is Toto essentially.
David Paich co-wrote most of the tracks as well.
Toto crazy talented....I think they might've played on some Steely Dan as well
Jeff Porcaro drummed on at least 4 Steely Dan albums
@@primeminister66 TOTO played on Michael Jacksons THRILLER album, as well.
So much alike! My Dad played all kinds of music so all five of us immediately start dancing or singing or both when the wide range of music he played pops up again. So sweet!
This is one of the greatest albums of our generation. Every song on it is solid gold and needs to be reacted to.
Lido Shuffle off of this lp is great too.
One of the catchiest songs of the 1970s
Absolutely. It should be your next from Boz.
Great album, great artist
Toto members are on a lot of the tunes.
Like you, this song just warms me of memories of long drives with my parents while my little brother and I looked out the window at all the sights . This song is was on that soundtrack during those days in the late 70s early 80s .
It doesn't get much groovier than that. classic classic soul/dance.
The great Lou Shelton plays lead guitar on this track. Dig the high hat work in the mix. I was a kid when this song topped the charts. That flute riff set the song apart from the other songs on the radio right off the start. Smooth, very smooth.
I saw Boz Scaggs in Richmond, VA on 4-27-74 & INSTANTLY fell in love‼🔥
Just drive around and listen to Silk Degrees all the way through. Over and over. Man, we played this album so much when it came out. Over and over.
Lowdown co-written by Scaggs and keyboardist David Paich of Toto fame. Paich was also the co-writer five ‘Silk Degrees’ songs including ‘What Can I Say’ and ‘Lowdown’. IF some one asked me what the music was like id have them listen to this and smile my ass off and say this was a part of the FANTASTIC 70 DEEZ
IT’S OVER is sooooo underrated. Love that song too❤️
I saw Boz, Donald Fagen, Michael McDonald and Phoebe Snow , they did each others songs as the Rock and Soul revue
There's a great concert on DVD/Blu-ray from a few years ago with Fagen, McDonald, and Scaggs as The Dukes Of September.
I saw this show, too! At Jones Beach, NY. Early 90s
Got to love the 70's
The drummer was a very young "Jeff Porcaro", played with Steely Dan, Toto, Michael McDonald and other session stuff.
Pure Quality, right there.
Love and admire you so much for not interrupting the songs! Keep up the good work!
Silk Degrees is one the best albums ever made.
this has to be one of the smoothest, coolest songs ever.
Your Going To Like This One ! Seen Boz Twice In Concert .
Iconic album from the seventies. It never got old.
Basically all Toto in the band- Jeff Porcaro on drums- who also did drums for McDonald on I Keep Forgettin.
This song was co-written by Boz with David Paich the keyboardist from Toto.
This song, Lido Shuffle and Loan Me a Dime. Awesome songs.
Loan me a dime is a treasure. I can't get enough. True love, bliss.
We saw Boz Scaggs in concert about 8 years ago, on a double bill with Michael McDonald. "Look What You've Done to Me" is awesome too!
Man, this takes me back.
heard this song a million times never heard this version before

You need the extended live version; it is sooo good.
I'll Be Long Gone, We're All Alone (was also covered by Rita Coolidge), Georgia (from the Lowdown album)....the list of great songs goes on.
I love this album- Big Fan! I got it as soon as it came out- it was not Disco- it was Blue Eyes Soul, but it fit in! He is very talented- he has evolved and played different styles over the years. Smooth dancing! No twerking allowed. This music is timeless. Love seeing the enjoyment you 'kids' get from discovering your grandparents heydays!
Watch Loan Me A Dime done LIVE to see the musicmanship!
Another Boz favorite--- JoJo. I promise you it's a sweet ride.
Absolutely!! Everybody's sleeping on "Jojo"!!
Man that groove is filthy!
Righteous groove. Jeff Porcaro and David Hungate.
Yeah the rythm section is just bangin it on course.
One of my favorite songs!
Lowdown is an absolutely fantastic song. This particular version is excellent.
Probably the best groove ever !!
One of my favorite old school cuts. This stays in rotation most of my old school playlist so smooth
Sold a TON of this album at the record store I worked at in the '70's.
Even bought one myself.
Great choice, thanks love it.

Jojo, Georgia, Love Look What You’ve Done To Me, Harbour Lights, It’s Over, Breakdown Dead Ahead, Miss Sun. We’re All Alone.....
silk degrees was an absolute great album from the mid 70s. i just about wore that album out
Love me some Boz Scaggs!
The drum groove here in the intro is one of the most iconic groove ever!! A true classic song.
The late great Jeff Porcaro played the drums on this creating a classic "in the pocket" groove
“We’re All Alone” is my fave Boz song!
My gut tells me to twist your arm into listening to George Benson’s “On Broadway” from the Weekend In LA live album. Kinda want to see you do King Crimson’s “Elephant Talk” live in the tv show “Friday’s” sometime in the early 80s, too.

I loved this music way before I realized how cool it was😎🎶
Love the memories this song evokes.
There’s not a bad song on that album, and EVERYONE had it.
this song as well as most the album was written by David Paisch from Toto
Silk Degrees was his shinning star. Since you love live music you have to watch Boz Skaggs Greatest Hits Live concert dvd. Outstanding performances and musicianship. Recorded at The great American Music Hall in San Francisco in 2003.
Completely fun jam session!

“ Loan Me A Dime” by Boz and Duane Allman- classic! And “ JoJo”!
He said in the intro that he has reacted to that and he listens to it twice a day.
Lido Shuffle is a good one.
"Fly Like A Bird" is my favorite of his, but "Lido Shuffle" would make sense to do next.
This song "LOWDOWN" is on My Top Number 5 Favorire song List of all time (the Original)
Georgia is a great tune too!!!
Great production. Clean, clear and the hi hat crisp and tight accents 👌
RIP Jeff Pacaro.
"Gimme The Goods" is super funky!
There's quality. We had to dance to this when I was 18. It was great. 🙂
Please react to Harbor Lights and Lido Shuffle thanks. Met Boz in an elevator in the early 70's in an elevator in Philly at a small venue when he was married to Carmella..what a cool nice guy he is👍✌
We're all alone. Beautiful song.
I got to see him in concert a couple years ago at the Orpheus theatre in down town Los Angeles. Great show. He was cool.
Wayman Tisdale is from my city, Tulsa. Went to high school with my
sister, and spoke at her graduation.
I needed a good groove. Thanks!
Still love this one. ❤️
There's a live version on this from the era with orchestra. It has Jeff Porcaro on drums and Les Dudek on guitar. It is in official channel under "Boz Scaggs - Lowdown"
"Lido Shuffle" and "Miss Sun" are great songs, too.
Seen Boz in Australia in the 70's just as good in a live performance as on records.peace out.
Great job. By the way that's Porcaro of Toto on drums... Ps, you've got a little bit of buzz in your mic today. What a great classic tune such groove...Rock on. 🤘
Awesome cool dance song, your dad sounds cool yeah, good to hear 🕺💃👌😎🤘🎶
Unbelievable that this track is 45 years old...
