Sorry folks, i don't give a damn what anyone says. The 70s had the most complete and talented musicians / songwriters in modern times.
Mostly gone now but never forgotten....
Yes yes yes!!! Same thing I say
You can take that to the bank!
Absolutely!
Agreed
This is why it is about time the Doobies are finally in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!
The 70's cannot ever be equalled for musical quality.
Impossible.
This is why I LOVED growing up in the 70s! You could get a good message, a good time, and killer musicianship all at once & I wouldn't trade it for the world!🥰
the guitar player with the headphones is Jeff "Skunk" Baxter one of the original guitar players for Steely Dan
I don’t see that you’ve heard Black Water by the Doobies. It’s such a chill groove. And how many songs have you heard that talk about catfish?
I totally agree Vinz. Black Water is a must for Chod to hear!
CCR's Green River, and some versions of Blue Bayou, mention catfish. But I know what you mean. Great song.
It didn't even occur to me till just now. They're all a colour followed by water.
Black, Blue, Green. Water, Bayou, River.
Summertime by Gershwin. “ Catfish are jumping’”- I think Pat got that line from this.
Yes he definitely took us all to church..... Glad you found this live take so you could see how great it Theses Guys are
Michael Mc'Donald on piano and lead vocals if memory serves me
I don't remember him having an apostrophe in his name...
Yessss
@@mikethemotormouth Twat !
That guitar solo was done by Jeff "Skunk" Baxter, also he played guitar on many of Steely Dan's records. It was like he split time between the two Bands. He's a very accomplished musician, and he sings backup as well.
Not only that, but if you Google Jeff "Skunk" Baxter you will find many interesting things. Such as helping design missile defense systems for the military.
@@off-stagemic3337 Skunk Works
That is what has always puzzled me about Skunk. He is never credited for backing vocals on any Doobie albums but clearly sang with the in live settings.
I'm so glad you keep finding out about the wonderful musicians of MY generation!🙂
Another good one from the Doobies is "It Keeps You Runnin"
Chod, Their "Jesus Is Just Alright" and "Black Water" are next for you!!
Black Water is one of my all time favorite songs.
Doobie Brothers: South City Midnight Lady, China Grove, Eyes Of Silver, Dark-Eyed Cajun Woman, Rocking Down The Highway, Echoes Of Love, Dependin' On You and on and on and on....love your show and reactions!!!
The guy with the long blond hair playing the lead guitar on this video was a guiy named Skunk Baxter. He also played guitar for Steeley Dan too. and it was Michael McDonald on the piano and lead singing. Both truly great musicians.
For your next Doobies song, I'd go with "Black Water" because it's different from any other Doobies song that you've reacted to, but eventually, you should also hear "What a Fool Believes" and "China Grove".
Doobie Brothers/It Keeps You Runnin' studio version. This song by the Doobie Brothers was one of the first top 40 hits featuring Michael McDonald on lead vocals in 1976.
The complete package of excellence musically all the way around...and performed LIVE!
What is fascinating is there is no front man standing out there with a mic. All the members are playing instruments. That’s why I liked the carpenters. And any time I hear Michael McDonald on that Kano I love it. His voice is so recognizable. Thru the 80’s and 90’s he’s singing backup everywhere all the time. He’s even on album covers on other bands just suddenly appearing not actually as a member of the band but as a guest singer. He was so good everybody wanted him. Love Michael McDonald.
He’s streamed three live concerts on Mandolin in the last year!
Did we have to go to church today. Yes! Amen and hallelujah!
The lead guitarist Skunk Baxter has been a Dept of Defense consultant for like 35-40 yrs
Skunk also played with Steely Dan and Linda Ronstadt.
So true about Skunk Baxter!
He's a genius & has top security clearance in our govt. And tears up a guitar! Love him!
Loved his monthly saw article in Guitar Player Magazine! 0
If you loved this you will love "Minute By Minute" That is Michael McDonald singing lead n playing piano. Skunk Baxter on lead guitar.
EVERy musician on the stage are top-notch, A-1. The mustache dude is Skunk Baxter, the man with a lightning touch on the Axe.
Minute by Minute is my favorite Doobie Brothers song among other amazing songs!!!
Minute by Minute and What a Fool Believes are other musts by the Micheal McDonald led Doobie Brothers.
Wow, I've never seen this particular performance, that was fantastic!!
Another great Doobie Brothers song is "Another Park, Another Sunday"..
They basically have two sounds. As soon as Michael McDonald joined the band, they went a little more jazzy. I like both styles.
Never ever heard that sweet ass piano solo at the end before ! That was a great version !
the guy that played the guitar solo, Skunk Baxter, was one of the guitarist for Steely Dan on their first 2 albums
"Black Water" and "Clear as the Driven Snow" are cut from the same cloth, but in very different ways.
The Doobie Brothers live doesn’t get much better
I remember listening to this in my dad’s ‘68 c-10 on the way to the dump.. on 8- track. Back in ‘78. He would keep re winding so I could figure out the drum parts. I have played drums ever since, 40 plus years. I never get sick of REAL musicians. I just want to know what happened to radio. Nothing good left😕. Know there are great artists out there why can’t we here them?
That's a great version of my favorite Doobie's song. I just wish the bass wasn't so low in the mix. There's such a great bass line in this song. You can really hear it in the studio version. But the keys at the end of this made up for it.
No one has reacted to “Another Park Another Sunday”. I think you would really like it.
Love that song!
It’s one of my faves too!
Thinking the same exact thing. Just an hour ago I searched for "Another Park Another Sunday reaction" and came up empty.
When Michael McDonald joined the band they went in another direction but I love both "versions" of The Doobies. Nice Choice.
Steely Dan was Michael McDonald's favorite band and wanted in. He had a friend of a friend and it happened. After a few albums as a backing vocal the producer of all things Steely Dan, Gary Katz, recognized Michael's talent and basically told him you are too talented to be a backing vocal and to go on his own. Obviously the Doobie Bros recognized his talent and the rest is history. Their first album with Michael "Minute by Minute" was an instant classic.
Takin it to the Streets is Michael McDonald's first album with the Doobies. Then Livin on the Fault Line before Minute by Minute.
@@jml-rj5re I stand corrected.
And Michael McDonald destroyed the band by changing it sound to bubblegum.
I love Michael in Peg by ST
@@moniqueleroux2198 That's called R&B, soul
CHOD 😎 Great Clip , I’ve never seen it, So glad you got your hands on it. Doobie Brothers have many Great songs 👍✌️
Loved this one for decades. Always makes me think if Rerun dancing and a tape recorder falling out-of his coat on "What's Happening?"
Black Water is a must do!!
They killed it, for sure. Not sure I've ever seen this performance, before. Sweet!
Oh la, how much I love Michael Mcdonald voice. His song "You Belong to me' always melts me. Love this song, too. Great reaction video as always
Great live version. Studio also has a great sax solo.
This band keeps you going!
Pre Michael McDonald, "Jesus is just alright"and "Black Water". With Michael, "It keeps you running" featured in Forrest Gump
love this live version.....wow good
Amazing song and astonishing performance. Everyone on pointe and engaged.
One of my favorite Doobie Brothers songs!
Michael. McDonald. Say his name!! Yes, he never gets credit for his piano skills, but how do you react without mentioning those VOCALS???
The Doobies put on two of three best concerts I have ever seen. Keep up the good work, love your reactions!
The guy on lead guitar also played with Steely Dan.
Jeff "Skunk" Baxter!
You don't know me, but I'm your brother....powerful line
Rev. Chod, you took me back to church with that great sermon about the Doobies, one of my favorite groups for 35 years.
Such a treat to watch and listen to real musicians at work!
Just watched again...your Face Reaction is Classic...Just pure Joy of hearing this song for the first time
Hey Chod, great reaction. My daughter always says when she hears any Doobie,Brothers or Allman Brothers she thinks of me. 2 of my favorite bands and I never missed a show anytime they came through our area. I have both bands and more framed and on my wall even now. I'll have to have her send you pics to your Facebook. I bet your Pops he's probably heard several trac's.
PEACE HIPPIE JOE
Michael McDonald is an amazing performer but all of the band members are top notch musicians
I agree, watch and listen to Black Water. The Doobie Bros are dope!
The Doobie Brothers guest starred on the hit TV series What's Happening. It was a 2 parter and it was great. They play this song and a couple of other ones. They play themselves and the story was about bootlegging. I've not been able to find it on UA-cam or anything.
One of my favorite bands and one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to!
Jeff "Skunk" Baxter plays the guitar solo in this video. He was an early member of Steely Dan, and his style is incredibly unique.
“Another Park, Another Sunday” is a gem, overlooked by all the reactors. Smooth, relaxing, beautiful! Go for it! 😎🎶❤️
It's live. Love Micheal McDonald and the Doobie Brothers!
That guitar solo .... WOW!
Michael McDonald took us to church at the end! LOL Love this group and all their music.
A lot of talent one that stage...wow!
You need to deep dive all things Doobies and especially MICHAEL McDONALD solo!!!
All my favorites growing up.👍
I've not seen this performance before. So glad to hear Michael McDonald play The Hell out of that piano!
Skunk Baxter (another Steely Dan alum) on the stool!
Love it, keep the Doobies coming. They picked the name of their band because they played in some pretty rough joints. The wanted a name the wild ones would respect and not try to kick their ass. So they picked The Doobie Brothers.
Doobies went all gospel on ya! That is one of the finest live concert jam
Best Micheal Mc era song. Skunk tore it up! Tirana on bass best ever!
It’s real nice having the band in the bigger box, thanks.
When Tommy Johnston left the band and Michael McDonald joined their style changed considerably. They consistently released hit after hit. Like the Eagles when Joe Walsh joined the band
I had their Album "The Captain and Me" on eight track and we would listen to it, along with a few other bands and singer/ songwriters, when we were on the road, takin a ride, goin for a drive. Lol Fun times They were.
Off the same album - It Keeps You Runnin', great song too.
I agree with the others about "Black Water", which once you give a listen it might be familiar.
... pssst ... this is a prolly a better place to "take ya to church" with Higher Ground 2020 (Stevie Wonder) | Playing For Change
... ya won't EVER regret it. Peace
Nice guitar solo, but I’m missing the sax solo of the original by the man with the coolest name in show business - the late, great Cornelius Bumpus. RIP soul man.
8th Avenue Shuffle has a really great groove! Give it a shot!!
I'd like to see Chod learn some of these songs and see him play along with them
Right on brother! To hear greatness like this is a true privilege....Much appreciated brother
GREAT version!!!!!
Guitarist in chair playing Lead is the Original Steely Dan Guitarist"Skunk" Jeff Baxter...and Singer and Piano is Mike McDonald....(Steely Dan Back ground Singer..Doodies kill it live always.....Back to Beck...Try Jeff Beck w/ Jan Hammer Live At The Hollywood Bowl - Blue Wind....Ray
Ah that 70’s long hair!! Loved it. Doobies Brothers!! Unbelievable singers and musicians! Throw in the Eagles, Led Zeppelin and Motown , get some really good headphones. Well, it’s just all ya need.
Pat sure had the best hair.
YOU are a darling, and one of the finest reactors out there! I love your appreciation for good music, and also that you don't interrupt or react until the song is over. How about some Tears For Fears, please? Thanks for your work!
This was the Doobie’s v. 2+ others when Michael McDonald, the keyboardist, became the lead singer after founding member Tom Johnston left. I think your previous reactions were to v. 1+ others songs with Johnston.. Both contained fantastic musicians and songwriters, just slightly different spices.
Let's not ignore the relevance of the lyrics today. We took it to the streets in the 60's and 70's and again today.
Michael McDonald a musical Genius! An unmistakably voice and vastly underrated as a keyboard player. Real musicians no auto tune or pro tool .
Thank u so much for playing the whole song.
Amen, brother.
Darlin, don't you just love them,..there are some song by groups, I swear you feel like your at church, even though its rock, or blues, huh you just get that "church" happy, not just joyous happy to hear some good music, that church happy, huh like those church goers in the Blues Brothers movie doing somersaults and cartwheels, lol, and when they have a voice like Michael, huh reaching down into your soul, huh darlin ,YOU HAPPY, if you haven't, give a listen to "Jesus is Just Alright", you'll be tilting your head, and getting church happy with that one too!, keep going, enjoy, get happy😉, Godspeed, Peace ✌
It's amazing what happens when musicians actually studied music for years before going professional . . .
I was waiting for this reaction 😁 I knew this would get ya 🙏
I L.O.V.E. the 2nd song analogy! Too true! I'm creating a '2nd Song' playlist!
The DOOBIES !!!
Speaking of church.....Another Park Another Sunday is in order!
The great Michael McDonald wrote this about the Civil Rights movement. He’s singing and playing keys here. Everything by him is fantastic. He’s a Ferguson boy, too! Check out I Keep Forgettin by him- it’s got a killer groove! So good Warren G and Nate Dogg sampled it on Regulate.
What a performance.
'You don't know me but I'm your brother', that's all the pastor needs to say.
I love them!
Do What a Fool Believes by the Doobies
