I followed the steps here and one problem I hit is that the Amber halo is always on... both wires on the front parking lights seem to have power when the parking/lights are on but MORE power when the flashers are on to make them brighter. So, when the amber halo is connected, it is always lit when the parking/lights are turned on. Any thoughts on that Or did you run into this issue?
It has been a while since I was in there. When the headlights are off and the turn signals are off, the two parking light wires have no power, so your halo lights should not be on at all. You are correct. Both parking light wires are power wires. One has constant current when the parking lights are on. This is the one that I spliced into the white halo light. The other wire has flashing current ( on, off, on, off, …) when the turn signal is active. This is the one that I spliced the amber halo light into. I used a test bulb at the parking light plug to determine which wire was which. I turned the headlights on and off, and turned the turn signals on and off, to determine what each wire does. You must ground the test bulb to the body to do this. I hope that helps! Let me know how it goes.
I just installed the new halos on my cj. The down fall is that i had to cut a significant hole in the back of the heat lamp metal cone. The halo headlight i bought sat drastically deeper in to the mounting bracket.
The wire is 12 gauge. I believe it is the same size as the harness wiring. I had it leftover from a different project, so it was convenient. I would recommend matching the wire leads coming from the halo because they (should be) sized appropriately. If you go a little bigger, it will be OK, because the smaller wire diameter will dictate the current flow. But, don’t go smaller; it will restrict the current. And obviously, don’t go way bigger; don’t connect your halos to the harness with battery cables!

@@HowtoandReviewsOfficial so I have the same headlights you do and the halo wires are only 20 gauge but I'm pretty sure the turn signal wires are 16 gauge. Have you had any issues with this?
@@davidwwalker No issues. The halo lights having smaller wire is ok. They will restrict the current to what the halos are designed for. It could be a problem if the halo wires were larger than the than the wires that they are spliced into, because they would require more current than what is available, but that is not the case. Also, since they are so small, and because LEDs need less current, the turn signal wires are now oversized and splicing the small halo wires into them should not cause any issues with “stealing current “ from the turn signals.
They are still fully functional, but I hardly use them at all. I only drive the Jeep a couple hundred miles a year during the summer. And pretty much never after dark. So, I can’t speak to their longevity.
Thanks for the question. Any 7” round headlights for a Jeep will work. eBay will have lots of options and lower prices, but is the most risky. A lot of lower priced products will be generic, or brands that are uncommon. Amazon is good because it has customer reviews and a very friendly return policy.
