this sounds so 80’s, yet futuristic at the same time. hard to find the right words to describe it. such a good track and i still get this song stuck in my head constantly.
tyranny is like if julian was holding all his creativity for years for whatever reason and then he got to release it all at once. and that's what makes the record so cool and different. it's not subtle like julian's other work. its all-out
Luckzzz you are kidding right? julian writes everything. he composes pretty much all of the music like he did with the first three strokes records and his solo album
That's this whole album in general. There's so many little details that can just fly by if you don't keep an open ear. Definitely makes repeated listens more interesting
"The moon’s a skull, I think it’s grinning The room is full of people now I think it’s spinning” - Human Sadness "The moon is cracked I think it looked at me and grinned The room is packed I look around and now it spins” - Nintendo Blood
He has a thing about the moon. Also...he always talks about waiting? Just what is he waiting for, the maintenance guy to fix his microphone? bu-dum-tiss...I'll be here all week folks...
4:40-5:25 is my absolute favorite part of this amazing song. When man has conquered the earth he will have destroyed himself His appetite will devour the earth and leave behind only a desert The end of living & the beginning of surviving, Our land, our brother we treat like an enemy But "when man has conquered the earth he will have destroyed himself The end of living & the beginning of surviving. Our land is a brother we treat like an enemy, oh oh Cause nothing exists except molecules and empty space, oh oh The moon is cracked I think it looked at me and grinned The room is packed I look around and now it spins Cyborg, I need to sit down, I need to shut up Universe everything's wrong, I think I fucked up...
Pure genius. Pure fucking genius... It's just... fuck... pure fucking genius. The more I listen to what Julian Casablancas did and the more I think nobody can't compete what he does. I hope that someday I'll hear another songwriter/artist that would be able to stand right next to Julian Casablancas and don't look silly and empty in comparison, I hope I'll still be alive to hear it !
The drums alone are a song of their own. During the verses, it sounds like an interstellar laser battle And at 4:40 when his voice enters those multi-dimensional triplets is breath taking Some powerful music, folks!
This is CRAZY!!! i have never loved rock or this genre of music but after listening to the lonely island boombox ft julian casablancas i couldnt help but research his music further and the first song i hear was 11th dimension and now i am HOOKED to every thing julian casablancas!! all his songs are crazy unique and have so much meaning and not to mention how effing cute he is!!
i already have! lol yeah their amazing honestly cant believe how talented julian casablancas+the other band members in the strokes and the voids all are!
I'm 15, and have only been listening to the strokes for less than a year. it's been so cool to hear everything from "is this it" to "tyranny" in a matter of months. all the eras and years.
Just bought the record and im not disappointed! I love the artwork on the sleeve... very masonic.. I just wish I had enough money to go see the band in London and fulfill a lifetime ambition but it looks highly unlikely as I have to choose between feeding my little one or buying a ticket. Maybe one day I get to see a live set until then the records gonna get worn out in the car. Thanks to Julian and all band members for making my day and getting me through some dark times. All Success and best wishes to your family
tyranny is a sick album, people just don't give it a chance. each song is its own thought, that's how I feel the music flows.. like each song is just one thought being brought to life and played out right out of some pretty rad minds.. cheers gals and bros
This song make me crazy, it's just awesome, I never heard that. I am addict at this sound... Julian, you're just the best... Congratulation you're a musical genius or a god!!! Just thank you for that
My favourite album this year, and much more than the auditory cheesecake that most other music ends up being once you get your fill....anyone who's into this album will agree that after a little bit of a listen, all the songs are more than melodic, all of it, and as far as Nintendo Blood, how perfect is the build up to the final lines....just perfect.
Just so happy that i found this band. Spent so much of my youth listening to everything, and i have no regrets of that, but I'm guranteed to hear the unexpected- yet beautiful when it comes to this band.
gotta love that every song in this album gives a different vibe but you can still tell, those cool keyboard sounds and weird percussion stuff is a sound that only comes from these laddos
I'd say it's because there aren't many newcomers. I'd imagine most here are just die hard Julian fans. It's a shame, because the messages within this record need to be spread far and wide
Anybody else spot the reference to Human Sadness? 'The moon is cracked I think it looked at me and grinned The room is packed I look around and now it spins'
Jules posted the lyrics on every song on the album?!?! Awesomeness!!! Jules is like Thom Yorke where it takes me quite a few listens to discern the lyrics so this is a godsend. This album is incredible.
After the ending of this song and of "Dare I Care," it's like massive relief after a workout, a fight, an orgasm, and enormous grief all setting in at once. It's exhausting and completely satisfying and magical all at once. That's musical and artistic talent right there.
The first time I heard this song I thought it had some catchy parts but it was weird and too long. Now I kind of still think that but I also see it as an original piece of work and almost as a masterpiece of sorts with some very catchy parts. It also feels like there are at least two songs mashed together here. The chorus ( Imprisoned us in a song ) is so catchy and memorable and it's a shame that it is repeated only twice in such a long song but maybe that's the point. Also the outro is such a mood changer but it's also very empowering and you kind of want to say-'fuck, yeah' but it's over but the time you do. This song is a bit of an acquired taste but it's pretty great in the end. Very interesting listen each time I hear it.
My god the lyrics on this are beautiful. Love Julian's "political" side, or just the fact that he sings about meaningful things. I love the lyrics "the moon is cracked I think it looked at me and grinned" too! Kind of psychedelic
AyazyamMedia Sorry dude I didn't mean to cry in public. I come off my bike 15 years ago and my health has been deteriorating ever since. I've had so many battles with family, poverty and depression and during all this time I found solace in Julian's music. I am thankfull to him and I want the man to continue banging out class records. I have been buying his music for over 15 years dude but just a little gutted I have yet to see him live. I think the evolvement from The Strokes to The voids has been epic and a wise artistic decision on Julians part. My drug of choice: River of Brake lights. God Bless You All. Stop The Fucking Wars! PEACE
This is amazing.."Cyborg I need to sit down, I need to shut up...Universe everything's wrong, I think I fucked up." The scientist turns metaphysical. The universe is perfect, we keep fucking it up with all our great ideas of improvement. I have chills.
Hey Jules, if you ever read this. You been my best friend since high school. Thanks for showing me the way. I can see your pleasure, I know your pain. Take care. You're a talented man.
Sounds like an 80s synthpop track. Only if the 80s synthpop track was reconstructed by a drug fueled serial killer. That recorded it through a half broken radio. Then the song was found, then played on a vhs.
How to be Julian Casablancas in four easy steps! 1. Imprison us in the sound 2. Asleep in the dead of wrong 3. M-f don't page me tonight 4. Don't stop react attack!
this sounds so 80’s, yet futuristic at the same time. hard to find the right words to describe it. such a good track and i still get this song stuck in my head constantly.
"The end of living & the beginning of surviving"... Julian is brilliant.
tyranny is like if julian was holding all his creativity for years for whatever reason and then he got to release it all at once. and that's what makes the record so cool and different. it's not subtle like julian's other work. its all-out
CarEdy23 the ankward moment is when you realize Julian didn't do a shit.. Just sang hahahaha While all other members did all the psycodelic shit :D
Luckzzz you are kidding right? julian writes everything. he composes pretty much all of the music like he did with the first three strokes records and his solo album
CarEdy23 I've heard of it. But I'm not so sure about everything he does.. =)
Luckzzz well he has said so himself. and he studied musical composition
CarEdy23 Amen to that :)
amazing album actually, once you've listened to it enough times you kinda start thinking this is one of the greatest collections of songs ever made
So true, the more I listen to this album the better it gets
Every time I listen to this song, I hear more and more sounds I hadn't heard before.
That's this whole album in general. There's so many little details that can just fly by if you don't keep an open ear. Definitely makes repeated listens more interesting
They change it each time is why.
Lol. I see Colors that dont Exist 🤣
"The moon’s a skull, I think it’s grinning The room is full of people now I think it’s spinning” - Human Sadness
"The moon is cracked I think it looked at me and grinned The room is packed I look around and now it spins” - Nintendo Blood
and so?
He has a thing about the moon. Also...he always talks about waiting? Just what is he waiting for, the maintenance guy to fix his microphone? bu-dum-tiss...I'll be here all week folks...
AyazyamMedia Just such a zinger you never stop you just don't stop!
Mmm kind of reminds me the moon in the legend of zelda majoras mask xd
hey ya!
5:25 is where I really look forward to whenever I listen to this song
4:40-5:25 is my absolute favorite part of this amazing song.
When man has conquered the earth he will have destroyed himself
His appetite will devour the earth and leave behind only a desert
The end of living & the beginning of surviving,
Our land, our brother we treat like an enemy
But "when man has conquered the earth he will have destroyed himself
The end of living & the beginning of surviving.
Our land is a brother we treat like an enemy, oh oh
Cause nothing exists except molecules and empty space, oh oh
The moon is cracked I think it looked at me and grinned
The room is packed I look around and now it spins
Cyborg, I need to sit down, I need to shut up
Universe everything's wrong, I think I fucked up...
Laura Gomez Oh shit im only at 3:47, I've got so much to look forward to!
Laura Gomez But at the same time, spoiler alert!
yeah man such a nice performance of Alvin
Pure genius. Pure fucking genius... It's just... fuck... pure fucking genius. The more I listen to what Julian Casablancas did and the more I think nobody can't compete what he does. I hope that someday I'll hear another songwriter/artist that would be able to stand right next to Julian Casablancas and don't look silly and empty in comparison, I hope I'll still be alive to hear it !
He is a genius
The ending vocals are so passionate and energetic
In the live version there is an arpeggio at the end and it's fantastic
Usually Julian sounds like someone woke him up seconds before recording, so I suppose so, comparatively speaking
Shivers every time
His vocals at the end are always outstanding
Don't stop, react, attack!
The drums alone are a song of their own. During the verses, it sounds like an interstellar laser battle
And at 4:40 when his voice enters those multi-dimensional triplets is breath taking
Some powerful music, folks!
Been listening to The Strokes since I was 13. I'm 26 now. All I can say is, so much has evolved over the years. Also Julian's side music is goood. :3
Everything Julian does is so rad
Awesome! Listening to them since 15, I'm 33 now, so it's been a great journey w Jules lol.
This melody has been stuck in my head for days
Unappreciated song.
More like unappreciated album.
Josh Walker Maybe cause it just came out and hardly anyone knows about it.
Brian DiCaprio It's been out for nearly a month now. Plus both Julian and The Strokes were promoting this album quite a bit.
+Josh Walker It's got a lot of recognition
This is CRAZY!!! i have never loved rock or this genre of music but after listening to the lonely island boombox ft julian casablancas i couldnt help but research his music further and the first song i hear was 11th dimension and now i am HOOKED to every thing julian casablancas!! all his songs are crazy unique and have so much meaning and not to mention how effing cute he is!!
You should definitely check out his fist band the strokes, especially their first album "is this it" and work up through all their albums
i already have! lol yeah their amazing honestly cant believe how talented julian casablancas+the other band members in the strokes and the voids all are!
welcome, andrea, welcome.
+andrea021 My exact experience.
Congrats on finding the most creative mind in the music industry 😊
3:50 love the way julian sings
1:49 the bass sounds so cool when it did that
The best album ever released in the History of music to me. Nobody can fight that, it's beyond genius and human creativity.
4:03 is my favorite part it feels like I'm floating in space
I'm 15, and have only been listening to the strokes for less than a year. it's been so cool to hear everything from "is this it" to "tyranny" in a matter of months. all the eras and years.
+raina b. you'r lucky the rest of us waited years inbetween and actually had to buy cd's... those were dark times
+Jessie Garcia haha yeah. at least you got to live through some of the eras, i was one when is this it came out lmao.
raina b. You are crazy man
What a wayverly street sing.
raina b. Congratulations, now you are 17
Just bought the record and im not disappointed!
Pray in his Mighty Name King Julian will bestow blessings.
AyazyamMedia how old are you? I feel like i'm the youngest (14) in being Julian's fan!
I'm 25. lol
Ashley Armstrong But don't feel bad about being young...it's not a big deal.
I didn't get into the strokes until I was like 17 and I definitely wish I would have gotten into them sooner.
I just love it when rock stars create experimental/trippy side projects
0:45 man those chorus or whatever sounds so great I wish they put more of that in this song
Yes I was waiting for another whoooOOooOOOOooo somewhere at the ending but it never showed up.
Conheço os Strokes desde 2001 lembro de last nite tocando na TV e hoje estou aqui escutando Julian novamente.
tyranny is a sick album, people just don't give it a chance. each song is its own thought, that's how I feel the music flows.. like each song is just one thought being brought to life and played out right out of some pretty rad minds.. cheers gals and bros
6 years later and it's still true. this album is pure art
fuck julian kills it at the end with those high notes props to this guy
God what a great song and knowing the lyrics makes me appreciate it more.
This song make me crazy, it's just awesome, I never heard that. I am addict at this sound... Julian, you're just the best... Congratulation you're a musical genius or a god!!! Just thank you for that

Do you know The Strokes?
Julian makes me happy. Yoh.
Is Julian a genius lyricist or what? god damn
Hell yeah he is
This song was stuck in my head for 2 days. Excellent!
this song was stuck in my head for two months lol
+ezriq nazhif 2 years, bitchesss.
As of tomorrow this song will have been on youtube for 2 years, so please fuck off.
gotta love that every song in this album gives a different vibe but you can still tell, those cool keyboard sounds and weird percussion stuff is a sound that only comes from these laddos
Wow! A comment section about a new song from an established artist and no hate. Says a lot.
I'd say it's because there aren't many newcomers. I'd imagine most here are just die hard Julian fans. It's a shame, because the messages within this record need to be spread far and wide
And probably because everyone who took the time to search it on UA-cam either loves it or is open minded enough to give it ago lol
There are several songs on this album that just hit me right there, right in that spot that really makes me feel something.
Omg the ending in all the songs are just chefs kiss
this is so fucking gold it's holy, i loop this for like an hour when i listen with headphones.
4:40 i cant even describe that sound in words. i have never heard anything similar to it. what the fuck. i like it though
Anybody else spot the reference to Human Sadness? 'The moon is cracked I think it looked at me and grinned
The room is packed I look around and now it spins'
Only reason I came to comments was to see if anyone else noticed
desertcatinacave first two chords also sound like Human Sadness
Jules posted the lyrics on every song on the album?!?! Awesomeness!!! Jules is like Thom Yorke where it takes me quite a few listens to discern the lyrics so this is a godsend. This album is incredible.

The final minute is amazing with the final chords progression and high voicing.
The first time I heard this song I thought it had some catchy parts but it was weird and too long. This song is a bit of an acquired taste but it's pretty great in the end. Very interesting listen each time I hear it.
It keeps growing on me
The final chorus is godly
i saw them live last night, i cried it being my first concert
That is pretty awesome
So sweet of him to mention his mom Jeanette.
I love these vibes, they're very different
My god the lyrics on this are beautiful. Love Julian's "political" side, or just the fact that he sings about meaningful things. I love the lyrics "the moon is cracked I think it looked at me and grinned" too! Kind of psychedelic
Just when I thought I couldn’t love Julian more... I bask in this.
AyazyamMedia Sorry dude I didn't mean to cry in public. I come off my bike 15 years ago and my health has been deteriorating ever since. I have no idea what post you are responding to of mine but it must have been important.
Please always cry in public and everywhere else, too.
This is a masterpiece.
hands down best song on the album.
This is amazing.."Cyborg I need to sit down, I need to shut up...Universe everything's wrong, I think I fucked up." The scientist turns metaphysical. The universe is perfect, we keep fucking it up with all our great ideas of improvement. I have chills.

I had no idea this song was a banger until about three weeks ago. how does this happen?
Hey Jules, if you ever read this. You been my best friend since high school. Thanks for showing me the way. I can see your pleasure, I know your pain. Take care. You're a talented man.
Não consigo me cansar
Such a beautiful brain!
Sounds like an 80s synthpop track. Only if the 80s synthpop track was reconstructed by a drug fueled serial killer. That recorded it through a half broken radio. Then the song was found, then played on a vhs.
Hey, it's Papa Hill Most epic description of a song ever!
Great way to describe it haha!
