Somerset Hills is not just "another" fantastic A.W. Tillinghast design. This golf course is one of the rare gems that hasn't really changed since it first opened in 1918. In fact, it might just be the most authentic Tillinghast course you'll find on the list of the 100 Greatest. This course has a picturesque and relaxed layout that weaves its way through untouched, rolling terrain. You'll spot some rock formations and encounter some small butôdistinct water features along the way. Tillinghast added a touch of playfulness to the design, with unique "dolomite" mounds bordering one green and surprising little knobs on another putting surface. And just like Baltusrol Upper, Somerset Hills features one of Tillinghast's take on a Redan-style par 3 hole.
We're incredibly excited to take you "Inside the Gates" at this New Jersey hidden gem golf course. We're honored to be the first UA-camrs to ever be granted the permission to film within the walls of Somerset Hills Country Club, and we hope you enjoy watching this one!

Have you played Somerset Hills Country Club in New Jersey? If so, let us know about your own experience in the comments.
The music, the shots, but above all the pure joy on your guys faces throughout this video. Top notch, absolutley loved every second of it, wish there was more! Amazing!
Well and truly stated. LUVed the intensely personal story of the hole in one on number 12 by Mr Putnam. In Celebration of that Father-Son relationship, Thank YOU, Sir, for sharing.
I love this documentary style. Really gives you knowledge of the course and the history.
Appreciate it!
So nice to see these courses allowing a little access to them to let the public see just why and how good they are. Absolutely gorgeous golf course!
Absolutely!
I can't speak for the club or membership but I think you made them proud with the coverage of the course and how special it is to the people there. Great interviews.
🙏
Beautiful production of a breath taking golf course! Well done guys, this series has been a blast so far!
🙏🏼
I think this might be my favorite video ever from. The shear joy you exude is wonderful. Thank you for sharing this wonderful course with us.
Beautiful course ,of course. My local course is just as challenging, well kept and beautiful, here in Forres, Moray, Scotland. Membership is £650 per year. Hate to think that Somerset Hills might be about 10 times our membership fee or more. Walking along the Moray coast it is one course after another. We are blessed here by access to great courses without the high cost. Come for a visit some year. Our Speyside whisky is pretty damn good as well.
Gentlemen ,
You know I have been supporting you since the beginning. And this just shows how far you gents have come in terms of quality, style, but more importantly how the golf courses now respect you and believe in what you are doing for the game. You are allowed to now play some of the most amazing courses in the world. Including pine valley which is awesome. I am proud of you both for how far you have come , but more proud of you both for what you are showing and doing for the game of golf. Congrats on being allowed to film here and many other exclusive courses that many players won’t ever be able to experience in person. But now we can experience the courses with you guys…which I love. Great work gents. Proud of you both
Jay
Wow, we truly appreciate this Jay. Means a lot to us. We’ve been grinding for over 10 years as you probably know and it’s people like you that keep us fired up to keep going 👊🏼
I’m really enjoying this series! The filming super high quality, but even better the joy in both of your faces. Thank you for your sacrifice 😊
Thank you Eric! 👊🏼
Superb, especially the music and the long time member telling the story of his hole in one. Golf is truly mystical.
That was incredible! I lost it when James got emotional talking about his favourite hole and why. That's the beauty of golf huh! Congratulations and thank you.
You guys have a real gem of a series here . Going to be the best year ever.
Thank you Peter! 👊🏼
Played it last year as a guest. Beautiful course. This video was great. Spot on. 👍🏻🏆
I did as well. Great spot…I taped it all, lol. Well done video.
Great viewing fellas, it's such an enjoyable series, a lot of hard work has gone into that and it shows...superb! 👏👏
Thanks so much!
Thank you for sharing that experience with us Fasano boys. Truly amazing course, love the story of the course and definitely the shared memories
The course is beautiful and the production was amazing! Great job boys!
Thanks so much!
I've had the pleasure of playing SHCC multiple times in competition and for fun. It is always a special experience. Also, you had the perfect host, as I have played with James who is a true gentleman.
Looks very similar in design and style to Oakmont CC in Western Penna. I will never forget teeing off their the first time. I play there a few times every year and I never tire of playing such a historic and classic golf course.
Oakmont is essentially a "philly school" design which tillie was a major player of. My home is a Tillie course about an hour from oakmont. Very similiar, just way more trees.
@@dblyoi Thanks! As you know, Oakmont used to have thousands of trees. The original clandestine removal of those trees is quite a story.
Such an amazing course! Well done on the video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I have played it... very special place. Sippin a beer lwith my bud lookin over the last green on that deck you see... oh so good.
Wonderful video! The whole production, including the music, was spot on. I grew up,in nearby Bridgewater, NJ, and have always loved the Bernardsville area. I now live in south jersey and actually work at Pine Valley, so these exclusive, beautiful meccas for golf fans, is near to my heart. And Mr. Putnam’s portion of the video was truly heartwarming. Kudos to you, sir.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for the words!
The course must have a golf soul , some courses you can just feel it , this looks great , hope it exudes it's soul too
Somerset is the BEST. The vibe there is off the charts
And Boy !! Do those ocassional good / great shots EVER soak in 🙂 !!! May We ALL have those great shots today. As many as breaks our way.
Came over from the Bustajack boys - as a GCA fan this series is such a good blend of golf, design, and history of the courses. Amazing work.
🙏🏼
One of the most legendary courses here in NJ!! SO awesome to get to see it
It really is!
Amazing...this series just keeps getting better and better....I continually look forward to the next one! I can't wait for the penultimate chapter in this series! Each step has been a joyful surprise! As some others have stated...your content has gotten better and better as you progressed...I'm befuddled that you don't have 1M+ subscribers! I'm pretty sure...if you decide to do a part 2 of this series [the clubs who said no in round 1], once they see the content...I'd say it'd be a good bet that most, if not all will relent and want to be part of this amazing series...I'm not a video guy...but I do know quality when I see it! So glad I've been a subscriber...Keep up the Great work on ALL your projects! 😂 🎉 ❤ Thank you!
WE APPRECIATE YOU!
made me tear up hearing him talking about that gorgeous par 3 with the water on the left.... Gorgeous
brilliant video lads
Terrific presentation of a fabulous golf course.
Wow! Congrats on getting on there and great job guys!
Just stumbled on your channel and loved the Vlog done on this very exclusive, private club. I would have loved to have seen more holes featured and broken down from a strategic and architectural standpoint, but I get time was limited. Looking forward to checcking some of your other content out.
Thank you!
Tillie was a genius. Greatest ever IMO.
Great video beautiful golf course
That course looks incredible. Had never heard of it, nor this channel. Cool video.
Welcome to the channel! 🙌🏼
Beautiful story about the 12th Hole😢 what a video fellas!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Yalls best production yet
This is top tier production and golf content. Way to go boys. Definitely subbing right now.
🙏🏼
🙏🏼
It has a Redan Hole like Shinnecock on Long Island and North Berwick in Scotland
Top notch UA-cam golf production.
Thank you!! 👊🏼
Thank you!
Very classy. Thank you.
Looks amazing! Hope I can get there someday.
Just pure magic......
Great video as always
WOW........enough said.
Beautiful course
I played Pine Valley in 1978
We played it in 2023. Coming soon…😉
Played SHCC 2x, can't wait for the 3rd time.
Place is mint.
this was fuc*ing epic!!!
Best place on earth!
Love Redan holes
Looked amazing!!! 💪😎😎
👊🏼
Lucky you. 🎉
I hope the classic vlogs are coming though. :D
We have a nice mix and match coming. We brought the 2-man scramble back for an upcoming video - it was fun!
That's right, never once has any video recording device been on the property?
Nothing compares
Place is special.
Places like this give new meaning to stuffy golf lol
Course looks immaculate! Q: do you think it's a much better course than Bethpage Black?
I don't have the 9 figure net worth needed to get a membership lol
Every course is unique in its own little ways. Loved how Somerset had things like the racetrack imprint and the tough green complexes. Black has it's own little distinctions too - that's why we film all of these courses Finn, bc we love all the different things you see when you arrive.
@@Golficity yeah man, I agree. I can see your passion for golf in your videos. It's an absolute obsession for me. I will blow off almost any obligation to go play haha
Great production but why so under exposed?
Is it just me or is the music a little too loud at the beginning?
It not an "ask." It's a question.
So the one guy at 24 years old had 250,000 available to just become a member!! I bet he worked hard for that money!!! LMAO
Nice video and call me jealous, but I'm sorry courses like these are what I call "anti-golf". To have such properties "so private" that no ordinary person can visit them I find repugnant. These places should remain hidden from the world. Do not expose them. They are not part of the people's game.
. try growing up in the Hamptons… the fourth ranked course in the world is Shinnecock Hills. The fifth rank course in the world is national golf links of America. You can throw rock from one property to the other. And you only have to be a multi millionaire or billionaire to play them.
Why does that bother you? I think it’s fine as a golfer. Clubs can invite whomever they want as a private club. It is golfing heaven
Completely agree. Drop a ball and make the dirt it hits special. I play some pretty fancy ass courses and I always feel like it's too much of the course is magic. The game is the magic.
Private courses keep the undesirables out, we had a few at our club. Finally they were asked not to come back. One of the reasons I do not play muni courses, is the undesirables.
Relax. I can't play there either.
Courses like this are not that interesting really….when you can play the likes of Muirfield, St Andrews, Carnoustie, Ryl County Down, Pebble Beach, Royal Birkdale, Sunningdale, etc where the greats have trodden, and get a great welcome, these private courses become a ‘so what’
Didn't seem to be a challenging course.
4 min in and not a fan. It's like you're hyping this up too much. I don't care about this course because I've never heard of it
Sad opinion
Great video and this looks like such an amazing course!!🏌♂⛳
