  • In Part 1, I reviewed wiring upgrades and boat wiring basics completed for my 2000 Triton TR21 bass boat. I recently purchased a 2014 Ranger Z520C. Today’s electronics require better wiring, a dedicated battery, and on/off switches to ensure battery life and conserve battery power. Part 2 of Bass Boat wiring goes beyond the basics! Factory boat wiring often leaves a lot to be desired. Today’s anglers often want the most recent technology and in most cases, need a wiring upgrade and an additional switch or switches. Networking electronics is also a key aspect of wiring bass boats. The Humminbird One Boat Network allows electronics to work together with Minn Kota trolling motors as well as other accessories. This video will give you a much better understanding of wire selection, terminal connections, fuse panels, Network Hubs, cable clean up suggestions, and more.
On board chargers installation and power outlets are added to simplify the charging process. These upgrades are designed to make the life of an angler more efficient.
The addition of Amped Outdoors lithium batteries are also highlighted in the video creating a lighter load, better voltage delivery, and create more space in the back compartment of a bass boat enabling the addition of accessories such as Minn Kota Raptors pumps.
Learning to wire a boat properly will deliver better and more reliable power to your electronics. You will also learn a great tip to avoid soldering. When you install your own wiring and fuse panels you will be able to clean up your wiring and be able to troubleshoot future issues. It’s not as hard as you think.

Kinda mind boggling. You have loads of electronics! Four Helix 12's, FFS, etc, etc. Appears neat, well thought out, and easy to identify wires when, like 2 years down the road something needs fixed or changed.

Thanks JD, when I retired, I upgraded my electronics. I didn’t buy everything at once. My G2N at the console, I have had a long time and use it for driving, map/2d. I converted to lithium batteries last year. Younger anglers are so good with technology and I am just trying to keep up and stay current.
Troubleshooting down the road will be much easier for sure. With the 12 fuse option, I have room to add new technology if needed. 😊

Great information and video? I'm looking to replace the black connection box on my ranger for the trolling motor, where can I purchase for the connection boxes, again thank you.

If you’re referring to the trolling motor on and off switch mine needs replacing too. I had to cable tie wrap it last trip so it would stay on. Hopefully I can use a switch similar to one for my lithium electronics battery in video. I will look into that very soon. If you don’t hear back, drop another comment to remind me.

Steve great video, thanks. How did you run the Ethernet cables to the Ethernet box? Did they run from the front to the console, then into the rod locker? Was there a conduit to run them through?

There was no conduit from the console to the Ethernet box, there was a channel from the front of the boat, for the wires that opened up to the day box in front of the console. We run a wire fish to the front then pull the wiring through. We leave a string in afterwards to make it easier to run wires the next time.

A channel where? I have a conduit in the starboard side running from the front panel to the console. I assume I will have to run my Ethernet cables through that.

Brian, yes the channel is a piece of conduit that I run my Ethernet cables through on the Z520C.

From the bow to the console is the conduit.
