I received a question about what to do if a person receives a topic of which one has no knowledge - so little knowledge that one cannot even make up satisfactory nonsense. I can only type what I would do, or what I think that I would do, in such a case. I have no idea this approach would work or not, but here goes - and, remember, you are on your own. I would write about how I would go about researching the subject. For example, if I drew a subject like author Clark Ashton Smith (I know, who?), then I guess I would describe what I would do in order to answer such a question about an author whom I’ve never read. I suppose that I would use that approach, even if the question were “for or against” the author - hard to say, since I haven’t read one of his works. Again, I don't know if that direction would be viable, even if all other elements of style and grammar were fine, but it is what I would do in such a case.
I listened to all your tutorials for CBEST writing test and I found them very informative and helpful. I applied them all on my 3rd try for the writing test.I thought I did much better on the 3rd try, however I failed with the same score as the last couple of times which was 26.
Does it worth to ask for the revision?
For your own peace of mind, sure. Ask for a revision. I hope that I works out.
Yes Stan State! Go Warriors!
: )
Is there a book you recommend for the cbest writing and a study habit for it?
Hi Benjamin, no specific book comes to mind, but perhaps other folks will recommend something. Also, atozteacherstuff.com has posts about what people have used that were helpful to them, so maybe you'll find something there. I do suggest that you take all of the practice tests that you can find. I have posted some in the description, but you can find more by searching *nesinc.com, that's the old extension before Pearson bought them.
Best of luck,
Chris B.
Is there a link to print out the materials that you are going over so that I can make my own notes?
Found it below... lol
Surely! www.scribd.com/doc/35885651/Cbest-Cset-Writing-Update
Ah...I see that you found the document in the description. Hope that it is useful!
Are the informational texts and workbook assignments in your book Beat them all?
Actually, the text contains more lessons that align with the areas of the model. I feel weird promoting my own text, so please refer to the reviews on Amazon regarding whether students feel that the book is worth it or not. Note that most candidates seem to feel that the videos and the lessons are sufficient, but I would never discourage anyone from using all of the available resources to prepare for the test (mine or others' work).
@@distanceprep your book comes highly recommended from a former student and good friend 😉
Note that my text is for reading-methods instruction only (reading specialists, reading teachers, etc.). Not sure if that was clear or not. Best of luck!!
Do you get penolized by going slightly over word count by 10-15 words? How much does it diminish the score?
Hi Jen, Not to my knowledge. I have not heard that. You might want to look at your style and see if you can shorten some phrases using reductions. For example, a phrase like, "In the beginning of the exercise, we..." can be reduced to "First, we...." That might save some words on the count. My best of luck to you.
Where can we find this document?
Hi Michelle - it is here: www.scribd.com/doc/35885651/Cbest-Cset-Writing-Update. The links for the items tend to be in the video descriptions, just fyi. Best of luck!
very much appreciated
