Hi! Cheers from Rimini! It was nice to see a video showing an area I know really well. Just a small correction: Bonelli Bus is just one of the two companies operating the Rimini-San Marino line: the bus you took from Rimini to San Marino is actually owned by Benedettini Brothers (one of the three separate bus companies with that name operating in the Rimini area). You can tell that because it has a San Marino license plate, unlike the Bonelli Bus ones that are "Italian".
You were really unlucky with the weather: often, even when in Rimini there's fog or low clouds, San Marino is high enough to sit on the top of them, giving the impression that you're in an island lost inside a grey sea. On a clear day the view both towards Rimini and the sea, and towards the mountains, is really stunning. That said, San Marino City itself isn't that great: most of the architecture is much more recent than it wants you to believe, there are uninteresting souvenir shops everywhere and restaurants that serve low quality food at high prices to unexperienced tourists. There are however some really interesting places inside the territory of the small Republic: sadly you can only get there by car, as local public transport there is really bad, and Sammarinese people are notorious in the area for owning several cars per family. Fuel and alcoholics are also less expensive than in Italy, and there are much more permissive laws regarding the sale of weapons and ammunitions, fireworks and some electrical equipment. That and a more convenient taxation, which makes operating businesses more convenient, makes lots of Riminese people go to San Marino every day to work and do shopping: its proximity makes it appear just as a different neighbourhood of the same city.
If you happen to come to the area again and wish to make another fancy bus trip I can suggest you going to San Leo, it's an impressive village built on a big rock with a beautiful castle. You just have to take the 160 Marecchia Valley bus line from Rimini to Pietracuta, and then a small bus operated by Valmabus/Benedettini Corrado (not related to the Sammarinese bus company).

I had the pleasure of staying overnight in the old city.
At night the old town guard March through the streets in Swiss guard uniforms, to shut the gate. You become locked in.
It was amazing, just like staying in a fairytale.

I went to San Marino with my then girlfriend, now wife 36 years ago. We caught the bus from Rimini, we were first in the queue, but somehow last onto the bus, being too polite to push our way on. We had to stand all the way there. Something similar happened on the way back, someone “reserved” all the seats, saying they were “Occupato”, so we had to stand all the way back too. It was a lovely sunny day when we went and it was packed with tourists.

First off I love your content, you are so straight forward and down to earth. In 1971 or 2 (what does it matter after 50+ year) i flew to Rimini from Gatwick on a package holiday in a Comet IV. One of the day trips we did was to San Marino, it was a lovely sunny day and the views are breathtaking you can see Rimini, you should return. I still have some super 8 footage of the place with the San Marino army which was compised then of two soldiers...

There used to be a Tramway / Light Railway up to San Marino (presumably from Rimini) - there's even a preserved Tram/Train in a Tunnel at the old terminus. Got destroyed by us Brits in WW2, and never rebuilt.

It reminded me of going to Venice on a very cold, wet foggy day. As a result of the weather, we literally had the place to itself, which actually made it great to explore. It was unfortunate you had that weather, but as you said at least you weren’t fighting crowds of tourists

First family foreign holiday I remember is almost 50 years ago and we went to Rimini. We visited San Marino and my dad bought stamps to add to his collection! I remember the coach we went on had flip down seats to increase capacity so there were extra seats in the aisles, it was bizarre.

Wow, a very eerie stroll you took us on, as we made our way through the misty heights of San Marino. But I was enthralled
every step along the way. Amazing how the locals don't seem to go outdoors in poor weather, and few sight seers venture
up there too. I felt the conditions added to the mystique of the place. But I guess a sunny day would reflect the true beauty
of this fascinating country within the bounds of Italy. Thanks for yet another great video Scott.

When I was a young child with the age of seven, my father was stationed in Vicenza, Italy for three years. I recall the canals of Venice, the leaning tower of Pisa, the ski resort at Asiago, and the small mountainous nation of San Marino. One summer we spent a week on the beach at Rimini, but one nice sunny day we climbed the steps of San Marino... Ascending lots of steps and descending lots of steps... Your video brings back the memories I shall never forget...

I've been to the San Marino F1 GP about 9 times each time staying in Bologna (either at the Youth Hostel or a 1 or 2 star pension). I've never been to San Marino though, looking at all those stairs it's for the best.
Hopefully, you will go back and have decent weather. You have to be careful of the weather as it can be hot in summer (and full of tourists).

You may have ticked atmosphere unwittingly and you got it in spades. If you discount the drizzle if there was any, this was quite an adventure of discovery with twist and turns and lots of views into an unchartered abyss. Sadly the shops took a cue from the weather and declined to hustle . A summer visit is definitely warranted.

In your Euro quiz, I wanted to say, "Bosnia Herzegovina" as a country using the Euro unofficially, but that may not be correct now. I remember going there shortly after the end of the Yugoslav conflict and then you could use Deutsche Mark or their own money indiscriminately.
