CAN I DO IT? 7x Scottish tourist attractions in one day based on 1960s souvenir cards

- Опубліковано 4 лип 2024
- I bought a pack of playing cards from the 1960s. Each card has a different photo of a Scottish tourist attraction. My challenge was to visit the seven attractions in the Lothians/Fife regions in one day, using only public transport, and try and replicate the photo on each card - 60 years after the originals were taken.

You know you need to do all of the cards. It doesn’t matter how long it takes, or one card per video. Brilliant idea.
Scott, your stamina is amazing. You cram so much into every trip. Fair play to you. I enjoy all your videos.
More please Scott great idea.
Oh yes please, I want to see you work through that whole deck! This has to be one of your best videos ever, creative genius (although I'm sure more fun to edit than to actually do) Tantallon was a tough card to draw indeed! Well done mate, superb!
You're not wrong. The Tantallon leg was seriously challenging, but having never been there before, it did open my eyes. What a stunning location.
I loved Tantallon ....its on my Bucket List now xxx😊😅😅😅
Maybe you should do 26 each Scott @PlanesTrainsEverything and Steve @steve-marsh 🥰
You and Steve would have fun doing more of these challenges together.
I think you should both start at the central station and pick a card each ( removing the one you have done Scott)
Challenge
1.who reaches the card destination the quickest
2. The cheapest
3. The less changes per route
4. Then get back to where you started
Brilliant video. Yes, please do another one (or two). Beautiful scenery ❤
Top travel entertainment Scott!
Amazing you did 6 so quickly, and was really glad you took time to explore Tantallon castle, and would rather see that than a rushed trip to Tayside. Another idea is to visit places where famous paintings were first done. 😊
Truly brilliant. I just dont know how you guys dream up these challenges. What a trooper you are
When you said "I'm the initiator not the impersonator, did you like that ?" I would have loved for you to have said "I heard somebody else say that". I am only 23 seconds in and I can tell I am going to like this.
Great Scott ! what a fab idea love it......and would love some more 60s playing card challenges ...We get to see lots of interesting places snd your knowledgeable commentary between locations is wonderful 😊😊😊
Scott, it's my opinion that your 1960s picture card challenge is a great, crazy idea! Please do more 1960s picture challenges. As you indicated in hindsight, the time you spent exploring the castle kept you from making the connections needed to reach and photograph the Tay Bridge. Bottom line, I really enjoyed the video! 👍
This was absolutely brilliant I love you're stamina thank you I hope you make more like this
A great challenge and a novel idea too. Well done Scott!
A great idea, and yes please to another one. Love the Scottish scenery and your enthusiasm Scott 🥰
Exquisite episode Scott, nothing more, nothing less. Amazingly well done. 💚
Great idea and excellent video - thank you! It's so refreshing to see a real UA-camr - a real person encountering real life issues and challenges with public transport connections, inclement weather, and occasionally getting lost. Thanks for keeping it real!
Thank you Scott for another interesting video. I very much liked the idea of travelling to places from pictures taken 60 years ago. I will certainly watch your videos when you do more of this!
Love seeing old v new pics and finding the exact location can be an adventure.
Very well done Scott, did brilliantly to find the actual locations on the playing cards from the 60's !! Another video similar to this would be good.
Loved the challenge! You did so well to get Edinburgh Castle, the war memorial statue and the Scott Memorial and then back to Waverley in 40 minutes! I visited Edinburgh in July for the first time and I know that is a real hike. (I live in flat Florida so Edinburgh was a challenge for me but I loved it.)
This is brilliant! I love before and after photos. I'm looking forward to seeing more. :)
Scott thank you so much for Creating these videos you really do work hard just to give your fans fascinating insights to your beloved Scotland if you would do another challenge it would be wonderful thank you once again
Yes please! More of these fun fact filled videos!
Fantastic challenge and well done on giving it a go. So many paths/streets I have walked down in my adventures.
We very much enjoyed this video and it seems like a great idea to use the cards! Such fun. We are from New Zealand and we watch your channel all the time. We will be visiting Scotland next year and would love to see more of these interesting parts of Scotland. Thank you for all the great videos!
Yes please do another one, this was really fun to watch and different.
Hi Scott. Great video.
My dad was born at Halfland Barns, opposite Tantallon Castle and grew up in Dunbar. I remember visiting family in North Berwick and Dunbar back in the 1970’s and playing on the castles. My great uncle Tom used to man the old entrance booth at Tantallon, back in the day ( basically an old garden shed) and would let us in for free.
More card adventures please ! Great videos 😎😎😎😎😎
The cloud formation out off bass rock were superb .
Also absolutely inspired idea for a video
Loved this! What a fun challenge, and I was really impressed at how well you replicated the pictures on the cards.
More please!
What a brilliant mini odyssey - and physical effort in the horrible heat! Great video, would love to see more
More please Scott. Brilliant idea. Well done on the ones you got to.
Absolutely loved this challenge and would love to see you do more of the cards maybe even do the whole deck 😂
Or maybe just show the cards as a series of phots ❤❤❤
I was so excited the first time I went over that bridge, and I would be just as excited to do it again today 😀
Fun fact: the Forth Bridge isn't even the first bridge over the Forth. That would be the initial auld brig over the River Forth in Stirling. That's the bridge which was the scene of The Battle of Stirling Brig.
the Kincardine Bridge just looks like it's the oldest
@@davidlittle7182Kincardine Bridge was built in 1936. The Forth Bridge opened in 1890.
@@scotbotvideos it's a joke mate...the Kincardine Bridge just looks shit/old
Are you sure it was a joke? @@davidlittle7182 😉
Definitely more like this please - go through the whole deck! 😁
Scott, you're a real trouper! A great idea too, but you don't half cut things fine! You're a brave man tackling Edinburgh tourist sights, even after the Festival has finished. Loved seeing North Berwick Law in the background of your shots too. My daughter and son-in-law climbed up it the other weekend, and the views from the top are spectacular. If you make a return visit to Tantallon, try to fit in the climb. You're obviously fit enough! Thanks for taking us on your trip - it was fun.
Would really love another video like this. Well done Scot.
I loved this video! You should try and do a series going to all of the cards, making it into a supercut when it's all completed!
Fantastic challenge! Thank you. Look forward to seeing more in the future 👏👏
What a fun way to go site-seeing.
Thank you for taking all of us along. ☺
This was brilliant. Great photos. So many memories of places I've been also. Please do some more card adventures
Please do more videos like this, loved seeing the cards and how it looks today. Tbh any video you do I’m happy 😊
Excellent adventure love those 1960s playing cards
Scott, a great idea to promote different parts of Scotland and see if they have changed. I’d love to see another one and good idea for people to see how they can get around Scotland by public transport. That castle look amazingly well preserved and a good day trip. Yea, avoid Edinburgh in August, complete no go!
Well done on your seven card challenge. Love watching your content including seeing different Scottish tourist attractions. We have only visited Scotland once (Edinburgh) which we enjoyed immensely. Do keep up the good work Scott👍
Loved it, please do some more from the pack!
Great idea. I had an old book from the 1930s with photos of historical monuments in and managed to take a picture of Fountains abbey in Yorkshire from the same spot as the one in the book about 80 years later.
Would love to see you do all 52 cards 😀
I'd love to see more videos with these challenges Scott, brilliant content.
Really enjoyed that one. Think you’ve started a trend here. North Berwick looks stunning
Definitely do more. But choose wisely. These 7 were very ambitious for one day! - East Lothian to North Fife in one day, only if you start at one end :)
The old nave inside Dunfermline Abbey is amazingly atmospheric. Hope u went inside! Sooo much history.
Back ~1990, my partner and I were learning about Edinburgh Southside history and would cycle by tandem, or take the mini, to photograph new versions of scenes in the book. Probably easier today w editing etc :)
Definitely one of the best video. Enjoy yourself
Loved the video. Definitely not a fail. I would love to see more like this, perhaps you could challenge Steve one day to do 5 or 6 cards each. Back in the 1970s I had a trip to Bass Rock and landed on it. The rules must have been different then, but it was an official RSPB trip. It’s covered in Gannets, but the white colour of the rock is not just the Gannets, but their output! You need a clothes peg for your nose and good boots !
The Northern Gannet has the scientific name Sula bassana because of its close association with the Bass Rock.
Thanks Scott that was an absolutely amazing video what a wonderful effort super entertaining 👍
Love the idea for this video. I would very much like to see the entire pack.
I thought this was a lot of fun! I'd love you to do another one. I often forget my hat too and burn my scalp.
What a brilliant idea with the cards. Again good to see the comparison between the 60's and now. Loved the scenery. Thanks.
Absolutely loved this challenge and hope you continue with it.
Thanks very much .
Such a great video! Yes, please, make another one like this! Your videos are so entertaining, informative and unique.
Great video Scott and I for one would welcome similar challenges again. Those old souvenir cards really hit a cord with you.
You could chase down football club grounds, distilleries, ex-homes of famous people, botanical gardens, famous pubs,
colleges and universities. Well the possibilities are endless. Even team up with Steve Marsh again. Onya mate!
Excellent video please do more of these videos you and Steve are absolute brilliant 😊❤
Scott all. Your video so. Great. You're Spot. On. Don't. Stop 😊👍👍👍
Good episode. Please do some more like that 👍
I love this idea, it would be amazing if you eventually did every card in the pack, even if it was just one in a video!
Scott, thank you so much for the informative and curious way of finding interesting places.😊
That's an amazing idea, and am hoping you will do the whole pack. You could always create your own playing cards using the images you capture, and sell them to tourists. Great video as always Scott.
I am a new subscriber to your vlogs. I enjoyed this challenge very much. I’d like to see more of them. I first visited Scotland in the mid 60’s so the photos reminded me of that era. I’ve not seen all the places on the cards but in the last few decades I have been going to Scotland regularly to explore your beautiful country. Thanks for posting. Cheers
Absolutely superb. Please definitely do another one😊
Great video! I've done a similar thing but concentrating on my town and without the deadline. When you stand in exactly the same spot as a photographer did 100 years ago or more it is quite a thrill and very interesting too. Your trip across the Forth Bridge was just like mine was a couple of years ago when I went to the Highlands. The weather was beautiful that day and I loved the view from the train.
Absolutely brilliant idea Scott, I'm sure I'm not alone in wanting a part 2!
A quirky idea, with a lovely sense of uncertainty...more please Scott😊
That's a brilliant idea! Who would've come up with an idea like that. 6 out of 7 is a great result, nothing to be ashamed of.
Thank you so much for another thoroughly entertaining video! I would love more videos like this although I enjoy every video you make! I love anywhere with water- it would be amazing if you could do a long series, filmed maybe over a summer or a year ( to capture different seasons) , where you choose your 5 favourite water spots, be it beach, loch, waterfall etc?! Thanks again!
I wouldn't be too against this deck becoming a bit of a longterm project honestly, pretty entertaining stuff.
Loved this. Would certainly enjoy seeing more of them.
Yes please do another one Scott, they are real fun to watch
Loved this video. It was a fantastic idea Scott. Cannot wait for the next one in the series.
Loved this video. It's a great little challenge to do! Can't wait for the next one
I really enjoyed this video, the concept of finding the locations of where historical pictures were taken is a great idea.
Looking forward to seeing more episodes using those old cards 👍👍
Excellent video as always Scott! By way of feedback - would definitely love to see more of these types of videos in future.
Great video Scott! What a great idea! Don't blame you for having a look around and getting your moneys worth at the castle The scenery in some of these places is stunning. Would love to see you do some more of these please.
Looking forward to the future challenges if you can pull it off! Great video.
What fun! You've inspired us to find souvenir playing cards for our neck of the woods too!
Fantastic video. Glad you spent more time at the castle, was a gorgeous setting. Would definitely love to see more of “deck of card” challenges!
It would be good to see some kind of challenge based on the old Post Office promotional film, "the Night Mail" , the one with the famous poem from W H Auden.
Scott, loved it. 6 out of 7 isn't bad at all, keep it up. And yeah, how about a combination Bass Rock and Tantallon revisit video? Or better yet, slip some of those cards over to Steve, give him a chance to redeem himself 😉
Loved this! Great idea! More please!
Great idea with the cards, would love to see another card quest
One of your best, Scott - and plenty more cards to do!
Well done
I was in Edinburgh last April and it was packed. I can't imagine what it's like in the summer, especially August. The hills up to the castle and down and up to the Forth Bridge were real killers. By the way, your last video with Steve Marsh made up my mind to go to Dundee next March. Doing Scotland bit by bit. Went to Kirkwall, Aberdeen, and Inverness after Edinburgh, all great places, particularly Kirkwall.
Need to get to the Shetland islands, st ninians isle is a beautiful tombola in the summer
Do more of these...we loved it...armchair travelers in Arizona....❤
That was fun, thanks
We need more of this 6 out of 7 is better than none
Scott youve never been one from shying away from the impossible to the very possible youre a gentleman scholar and learner
My brother visited some old post cards sights our mum had in an album, when he went over to meet our kinfolk, mum came out to Australia in 1951. She was born in Dunfermline.
Yes Scott, we want more! This was great fun to watch. You were sweating a bit, I hope you kept hydrated.
I came to you through Steve Marsh. Now subscribed
Great idea for a video. I was thinking you could also maybe use old calendars of Scotland, maybe even city specific? Look forward to seeing where your idea goes.
The more of your videos I watch, the more I want to visit Scotland!
This was a really fun watch. Please divide the rest of the cards into regions and complete the series. I mean, if you want to 😎
